THE INCIDENCE OF AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE has tripled in the last few decades. 24 million Americans are now affected. In fact, it affects more women than heart disease and breast cancer combined. But autoimmune disease isn’t just one condition.
You’re probably familiar with the most common autoimmune diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, type-1 diabetes, hypothyroidism, and psoriasis. But there are many more autoimmune diseases that affect the nervous system, joints and muscles, skin, endocrine gland, and heart.
Simply put, autoimmune diseases are conditions where the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues rather than a foreign molecule like bacteria. This happens when something confuses the immune system. Increasingly, that “something” appears to be the enormous load of environmental toxins to which we are all exposed.
The groundbreaking book, The Autoimmune Epidemic, by Donna Jackson Nakazawa is a breath-taking piece of investigative journalism that seeks the real causes for this epidemic. Her desire to find answers was fueled by her own struggle with autoimmune disease.
Donna lays out very clearly a radical, but unfortunately very true, picture of what’s happening. But she also provides clear solutions for changes in diet, supplements, and our environment that can help people deal with and even reverse autoimmune diseases.
Donna calls the environmental toxins that are, in part, driving the autoimmune epidemic “autogens” — foreign compounds that create an “auto” reaction, a reaction against the self. The fact is, these toxins may be the most important cause of autoimmune diseases.
In today’s blog I will review how these toxins influence your health and lead to autoimmune diseases, share some of what Donna explains in her book, and provide 9 tips to help you address autoimmune disease.
Environmental Toxins: The Leading Cause of Autoimmune Disease
We are exposed to astounding amounts of pollution. Over 80,000 chemicals have been introduced into our society since 1900, and only 550 have been tested for safety. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), about 2.5 billion pounds of toxic chemicals are released yearly by large industrial facilities. And 6 million pounds of mercury are poured into our air every year.
In fact, a recent government survey – “The National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals” issued in July 2005 — found an average of 148 chemicals in our bodies. And those were only the ones for which they tested. (i)
It gets worse …
The Environmental Working Group examined the umbilical cord blood of children just as they emerged from the womb. They found 287 industrial chemicals, including pesticides, phthalates, dioxins, flame-retardants, Teflon, and toxic metals like mercury. And this was before these infants even entered the world!
That’s not to mention the toxins found in our foods and other chemicals typically found in the home, like certain cleaning agents or pest control products – all of which add to the total toxic load on our bodies.
One wonders what all of this poison is doing to our children …
In his foreword to The Autoimmune Epidemic, Dr. Douglas Kerr, M.D., Ph.D. professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, says that “there is no doubt that autoimmune diseases are on the rise and our increasing environmental exposure to toxins and chemicals is fueling the risk. The research is sound. The conclusions, unassailable.”
That environmental toxins are a major cause of autoimmune disease is clear. Yet conventional medicine doesn’t take that into account when treating autoimmune conditions.
Instead, it tries to shut down the immune response with powerful medications including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Advil and Aleve, steroids like prednisone, anti-cancer drugs like methotrexate, and new drugs like Enbrel and Remicade that block the effects of a powerful inflammatory molecule called TNF alpha.
But those new drugs shut down your immune system so powerfully that they increase your risk of cancer or life-threatening infections. And they have frequent and serious side effects and often give only partial relief. These drugs may be lifesaving for some in the short run — but in the long run they do NOTHING to deal with the causes.
There’s a better way.
I have successfully treated hundreds of patients with autoimmune diseases by addressing the underlying causes, including toxins, infections, allergens, poor diet, and stress. The roadmap of functional medicine takes us right to the root of the problem.
I have even seen the results of using functional medicine to treat autoimmune disease in myself, in my wife, and in my patients.
Using Functional Medicine to Heal from Autoimmune Disease
Years ago, I had chronic fatigue syndrome. This condition has autoimmune features and my blood tests clearly showed that my body was attacking itself. Getting rid of my mercury poisoning reversed my chronic fatigue and autoimmune problems.
Similarly, my wife developed debilitating autoimmunity with joint pain and fatigue. Getting rid of the heavy metals in her body with an intensive detoxification program cured her, too.
And this has been true of so many of my patients.
For each one, I have to find all the causes — toxins, allergens, infections, poor diet, and stress — and deal with all of them while adding back the things the body needs to function optimally, like whole, clean food, nutrients, exercise, stress management, clean water and oxygen, community, connection, and meaning. When I do this, the results are amazing.
One of my patients had crippling psoriasis and related arthritis. She was 42 and couldn’t walk up and down stairs, get into a bathtub without help, or properly care for her children. Yet just nine months after we started treatment — including eliminating gluten and other food allergens, removing her heavy metals, and balancing her immune system — she walked back in my office, not only 30 pounds lighter (remember, being inflamed makes you fat), but completely free of pain and psoriasis.
She’s not alone.
Another man suffered for years with the bloody diarrhea and pain of ulcerative colitis. Dietary changes and various kinds of digestive support helped but he never got better — until we removed the toxins and mercury from his body.
And a recent patient with debilitating fatigue and scars on her brain from multiple sclerosis got nearly complete relief of her symptoms after she had the mercury fillings removed from her teeth and went on a comprehensive detoxification program. When she repeated her MRI, all of the scars from the MS were gone!
So there are ways you can address autoimmune disease if you or someone you love is suffering. Here is what I recommend.
9 Tips for Addressing Autoimmune Disease
- Read The Autoimmune Epidemic. This book will tell you why we have this problem, and how to fix it.
- Find a functional medicine doctor who can help you address autoimmunity.
- Get tested for mercury and other heavy metals.
- Get tested for celiac disease (an autoimmune reaction to wheat and other gluten-containing grains), which causes over 60 autoimmune diseases. And consider eliminating other inflammatory foods from your diet such as dairy, eggs, corn and animal fats for a few weeks to see if it makes a different your symptoms.
- Take immune-balancing nutrients and supplements, including vitamin D, essential fats (like EPA/DHA and GLA), and probiotics.
- Practice deep relaxation daily through yoga, meditation, biofeedback, or anything that reverses the stress response.
- Practice the precautionary principle, which says that we should avoid anything with the potential for harm. In the US, something has to be proven harmful before it is taken off the market. In Europe, something has to be proven safe before it is allowed on the market. This is also known as “better safe than sorry.”
- Learn how to boost your body’s own detoxification system.
- By addressing the root causes of autoimmune disease, you can start feeling better and getting well today. Now I’d like to hear from you …Have you been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease? How have conventional treatments worked for you?Do you plan to try any of the lifestyle approaches mentioned here? Please let me know your thoughts by adding a comment below.

I would like some help. I have had tingling and numbness in legs, hands and face for awhile. Mostly tingling. I am doing chelation for mercury DMSA and lead EDTA from a board certified Dr. in Sarasota. I had a MRI of brain and ECG. Both were normal. What can I do to get better. MY CRP is high 9.5. I am female and 52 with a good diet, no gluten. I take fish oil, vitamin d, calcium. probiotics…all recommended by my Dr’s.
What can you advise me to do?

I’m 26 and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 2 years ago. My doctor prescribed prendisone for a couple weeks and then Colazal for two years!! 9 pills a day for two years. I couldn’t believe it. I am a health nut who exercises regularly and is always conscious of the food I put in my body. This diagnosis was out of the blue and very upsetting. My whole world flipped upside down. In addition to the mediticine, I decided to take Acidolphilous and follow the “Specific Carb Diet” and made my own yogurt . I noticed drastic improvement. This diet however was not very practical as it required me in the kitchen many, many hours a week. Most of all, it was very difficult going anywhere for more than a few hours at a time because i would have to bring my food with me. I decided to slowly incorporate other foods and rightfully so, the symptoms gradually came back. Just recently though I’ve learned that many people who have taken the acne medicine called ACCUTANE resulted in many cases of UC. I took Accutane about 5 years before I was diagnosed.
I haven’t had any allergy tests yet or tests for mercury levels. I live in denver and am in pursuit of the best doctor for treating and curing UC! I have a strong feeling that the inflammation (possibly caused by accutane) has traveled to my hips/SI joint. I can barely walk somedays and my chiropractor says that my SI joints show extreme inflammation on the XRAYS. I’m going to see if Acupuncture will help. I am so desperate and fear for colon cancer or surgery in my future. I don’t want to take anymore drugs and am in the process of trying to find a Yoga studio to alleviate the stress factor. I know it will take time, but I dont know how much time I can spare. I need this nightmare to go away.

I know its been a few years since you posted this, however I suffer with the same symptoms as you do. Was wondering if you had any positive progress since then, thanks Cheers Tina.
Dear Dr. Hyman,
I am a student at IIN as well as a practicing family physician like yourself. I have been so taken by your work, your books and the magic of functional medicine that you practice. I hope to take your weeklong program for functional medicine in September. In the meantime, i have a patient with Inflammatory Bowel disease just diagnosed this year, the most stressful year of his life. Could I ask your help by requesting which tests would you order initially for this man to work up all of the possible things that could be causing these symptoms? Based on your books, I think that I need to test him for celiac disease, heavy metals, maybe an igg test to see which foods he might be allergic to, a c reactive protein in addition to the standard chem20, etc. Also, do you have an e-book for physicians to guide them through with functional medicine? Thank-you so very much, Goli Sahba
Unfortunately, due to the volume of queries Dr. Hyman cannot respond to comments of this nature at this time. However, he sincerely appreciates your interest in his work.
Hello Dr. Hyman:
I have been to several doctors over the last 9 months, as I currently seem to have some low level autoimmunity going on. The doctors believe that I am developing Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, but they are not sure.
I am going to try to follow the suggestions listed above for a few weeks, and see how it works for me.
Sincerely,
Elias (New York)

Hi Dr. Hyman,
I have so many systems of my body affected by toxin and metal exposures, genetic inability to detoxify metals and am a slow metabolizer of chemicals and even my own stress hormone, and sideeffects from years of mainstream medicine’s symptomatic treatments and medications. Although I had my mercury amalgams removed this spring to halt the rapid progression of neurological symptoms (couldn’t see, hear, balance, or even swallow well), I have been paralyzed by my understandable fear of “mainstream medicine’s diagnostic tests and treatments” that I haven’t dared to have the MRI done that was ordered. I am afraid that the strong electromagnetic energy used to do MRI’s will loosen or worsen the mercury and other metals and toxins that are still stored in my organs, tissue and especially my brain. I have not yet detoxified these properly yet. Are my fears about the potential ill effects from the MRI realistic? I want to get well not worse. Also, other doctors are taking so long to make the connections between my multisystem health problems and the mercury and chemical toxicities. I have ALL the symptoms of Multiple sclerosis, had inflammatory breat cancer, fibromyalgia, severe psoriasis, food allergies , migraines 24/7. irritiable blwel syndrome, PCOS, metabolic syndrome, low thyroid, nutritional and endocrine deficiencies, arthritis, swelling of the brain, vertigo, disabling, auditory and visual problems, memory loss, dyphagia, tremors, chattering teeth, swollen tongue, tinnitis, “eyeball headaches, muscle spasms and muscle tics, right sided weakness and fine tremor as well as intention tremors, and heart palpitations, asthma, depression, I could go on and on….and like you said, mainstream doctors either treat me like I’m crazy, a hypochondriac, or an annoying ungrateful patient when I do research and come up with real anwers and am not satisfied with treatments that minimize or departmentalize my realted whole body dysfunctions. Functional medicine is far better than what “specialization has done to american medicine. My problems are all related, and I can only get well when practitioners will acknowledge that fact. and look for the CAUSE so I can reverse the process. Please let me know about the MRI’s potential impact on my mercury and neurological symptoms. Thanks. Laurie

I was diagnosed with Sjogrens (autoimmune of the moisture producing glands/lymphatic systems) two years ago after more than 24 years of symptoms. My doctors tell me this is the “best” of the autoimmune diseases! I have resisted taking the RXs prescribed to suppress my immune system. That seems counter intuitive to me. I seek treatment from a NMD as well as my internal medicine PCP. I try to manage the dryness issues with 4 types of eye drops, nasal sprays, humidifiers, lotions, potions, and drink water around the clock (which doesn’t help my sleep patterns). I have eliminated dairy and this has relieved joint pain but I am still fatigued. If I catch a cold, I am very sick for weeks. I used to run, lift weights, play tennis, ride bike, and do yoga. Now I barely have energy to drag through my day. I try to have a good diet but frankly am becoming more and more confused about what that means. There is too much contradictory information. I used to think I was a healthy strong person but I am really floundering and have given up on my health. I am open to anything that would let me feel better.
Message to Karen
I can understand what you are going through I also have sjogrens, it took a long time also to diagnose my symptoms. I however have gotten some relief years latter, I had a infection in one of my teeth. No pain, no cavity. My symptoms are not gone however, they are much better. Look for an underlying infection. I have had bladder issues also with the same problems, no pain or burning . Hope that this helps you Thanks Ronda
My 4yr old daughter got diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis early this year based on a colonoscopy and biopsy results. She did not have any typical symptoms such as diarrhea or cramps, etc. Her only symptom was intermittent rectal bleeding that got a little bad which took us to the GI who suspected benign polyps and did the scope to address that. She was also found to be anemic which also added to the diagnosis. She has only been on mild antibiotics once for a ear infection and was a healthy child. She took a trip to India at 18months but had not contracted any illness while there and in general is an extremely healthy child growing along her birth curve. Since the diagnosis about 9 mos ago, the bleeding has become more regular ie, we observe some blood in her stool every 3-4 days and her stool has always been loosely formed. We chose to wait before starting her on any drugs that were advised by the GI because of her young age and mild symptoms. However she did have an episode of Erythema Nodosum and wrist joint inflammation in the meantime. We tried homeopathy but have yet to see any positive results of that.
Based on a bunch of reading and anecdotal testimonies from other individuals who either had an autoimmune condition or arthritis that they have been able to manage through dietary measures, we have started an elimination diet for her to try and pin down possible food culprits. We have reason to believe that wheat and lentils might be a couple of offenders. We are waiting to introduce back other things like dairy, nuts to see what they do. We give her a supplement of probiotics, calcium and fish oil. As part of ayurvedic principles, we also give her a cocktail of freshly squeezed pomegranate juice and fresh turmeric root juice and crushed fenugreek seeds. It is hard to put a 4yr old through these measures and I do have to make it up to her with treats of dark chocolate or something like that but we have been able to have our first positive sign in 11 months, ie. 11 days of no rectal bleeding.
Listening to the regular GI or Allergy specialist, they repeatedly insisted that food and allergies do not have any relation to Colitis but we felt that there was something wrong with that view considering that the disease deals with the digestive system which is all about food. In addiiton, she did have a milk and soy allergy as an infant which was only resolved when I as her breastfeeding mother eliminated those from my diet. We did a IgE test for milk and soy at 14 months and also after the UC diagnosis and both times it was negative so she allowed to have those back in her diet.
We still do not know if we are doing the right thing by not putting her on the drugs as the GI wants us to but we want to give a shot with dietary changes and see if that helps. Your articles really help in reiterating what we have been reading and hearing about how medicine is practised and the role of diet in all these diseases.
I would really like to hear your opinion on a child this young developing IBD with no apparent cause. Also, I would appreciate assistance in finding a ‘functional medicine’ practitioner in the San Francisco Bay area. I am not sure how to go about this.
Thanks and appreciate any help or pointers you can provide.

Dear Dr. Hyman,
I live in spain and was diagnosed as having Hypthyroidism Hashimoto, I also have psoraisis and now am being tested for Rhemotoid Arthrosis. I have been 5 years looking for answers and unfortunately cannot get any help as the health system here does not have funcitional doctors and there is only two types of medication for my hypothyroidism. I am taking levothroxine. I have requested heavy metal testing, this is not even contemplated. As I have done fibromyalagy tests, negative, and am waiting for the rheumatoid and allergy results. My question is can I be treated elsewhere for a reasonable cost?

I have had IBS for many years and managed to control it with attention to diet but 3 years ago I was diagnosed with Frontal fibrosing alopaecia / an auto immune disease. No one told me that they were comnnected until I read your article. I have also only been offered cortisone as a solution and almost an attitude of of, just get on with it , there is no cure and you will lose all your hair and eyebrows. I have painful flare ups with heightened light sensitivity on my face , chest and arms resulting in an itchy rash as well as painful lumps on my scalp.
I am going to try and find your books in our local bookstore as well as try to locate a functional medecine doctor here in South Africa. I have renewed hope after all this time that maybe there is help for my condition. Will follow your blog and website for more information. Many thanks
Dear Dr. Hyman!
This is all so very interesting!
I am not able to take antibiotics anymore as I am reacting with Steven Johnson’s Syndrme. So there is nothing in my body from them. This happened 3 times now and the last time I nearly didn’t survive it.
had such a shock when I’ve had this last outbreak that since then (5 years ago) I am on anti-depressants …venlafaxine. Still I am mostly low depressed and sometimes anxiey is coming through.
I have Fibromyalgia and CFS/ME. At the mo a very bad flare which makes me nearly bedbound. Exhaustion, excessive sweating, high pulse, terrible pain.
Walks aregetting shorter and shorter…. the pain and exhaustion doesn’t let me go further and I am using a stick now for support as I sometimes think I am loosing my legs. I can’t cope with any negative problems anymore..I can’t cope with the tiniest bit of stress. I start crying and crying and need some of my on top meds….clopixol in case I am stressed.
I have Hashimoto and I am taking 150 mg meds. sonce 25 years.
Think I have Fibro since I was a child. Epstein Barr is tested. My father had the same illness. He caught a virus back in WWII as a POW through the Americans
in Afrika. He was very ill there and they’ve called it a flu like virus……
Now we know about XRMV…..and it is contaeous…and it starts like a flu like virus.
And as we know now as well, it is contageous…so I think my son has itas well. He is 33 now and pain is getting worse and he is always very exhausted and tired after work. My Mum has Polymyalgia.
This illness is like dying every day…but you never do…and it goes on and on and on….with no end in sight. This is no life anymore.
I would try everything !!!!
Thank’s for listening!
Kind Regards
Eileen

Three weeks ago I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica and it happened suddenly…..extreme pain and could not walk along with neck and shoulder pain. I was on Actonel (bone density supplement) beginning in January and wonder if that could have contributed to this horrible disease. I am now on Prednisone which is scarey. Would love to have some answers!

hi,
I have had psoriasis since age 12, only left while pregnant [both times] and returned within 3 mo of each birth. I have other problems but will refrain from mentioning them now, I am already under the care of a PCP and a pain specialist, i have refused the immune depressant meds offered to me for the psoriasis. no reason to die just because I have ugly skin. I can continue to live with it.
I am interested in your process, but do not think I am close enough to you to benefit as a patient and find your responses here questionable.
if you have advice, I would appreciate it, but from what I can see here, you essentially ignore all the questions and point people to your clinic/program instead. so I wonder why it is you wish to hear from us? wouldn’t it be easier to just put up an ad?
I mention this as I note that you have elicited hope from these desperate people who in turn spend energy and time writing about their personal nightmares to, clearly, no avail. I think it is unkind and perhaps even self serving. Are they simply part of your advertising strategy? If so, haven’t they been through enough without adding this frustration to their stress levels? If you want to know what is wrong, I think you owe them some kind of reasonable response in return. If that is not possible, then state at the top that no advice will be forthcoming and take it to private email for those you would be willing to discuss things with at no cost via the internet. Since this IS an internet site, copping the “this is too complicated for the internet” spiel AFTER they spill their hopes in unconscionable.
thank you for your secretary’s time.

I have MS. Luckily, it hasn’t progressed too far. As a child I developed cataracts and had them both removed by age 25. This was due to chronic uviitis and iritis and the topical steroids used to treat these conditions.
I know that when I am being “good” and eat only whole foods, stay away from anything that is processed, drink lots of fresh water and exercise regularly, I feel great and have so much energy. It’s almost a no brainer. So why is it so hard for the average person to live by these simple, relatively low-cost measures? Strange, isn’t it?
It’s important for parents to get their children off to the right start by giving them only healthy food and keeping them away from eating junk. This way their bodies will develop properly and be strong. The syndrome of disease formation will be minimized. Easier said than done though! They are surrounded by unhealthy food everywhere they turn. School, parties, restaurants.
Educating them along the way about the harm of unhealthy choices is the place to start.
I would like help. I have been diagnosed as having Hashimotos disease with hypothyroidism. No one will explain wht this means. I am taking 50mcg of Levothyroxine daily for a year and a half. My symptoms have NOT improved. I went from a size 4 a year ago to a size 8 now. My hair, skin and nails are dry and brittle. I cannot sleep most nights, have problems with anxiety and depression, i crave salt and sugar. I have to urinate constantly ! especially at night and early morning. Around 2 or 3 every day i am so exhausted that i can barely function…i am seeing signd of carpal tunnel and retinal migraines. These are scary ! I see bright bursts of light in the peripheral vision of my left eye – even if my eyes are closed ! I stay thrist but i restrict my fluid intake because of the frequent urination. I have the aches and pains of someone well betond my age ( 37) I have had to have a partial hysterectomy to due heavy painful periods….I could go on and on. My doctor keeps saying ” we’ll keep an eye on it ” I feel at my wits end ! I am angry and rustrated that no one seems to understand or care..and most just say I am just a silly hypochondriac
Help me please.

I will help with what I can by speaking about my situation.I will be short and basic. If anyone wants, you can contact me on my mail.
I was diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis 2 years ago and I was going thru hell.I was diagnosed with celiac disease too.I have been back and forth trying natural therapies, medications and diets.I was going to hell and back but I didn’t stop trying and searching, reading etc. etc.I’m ok for only 3 weeks now but my OK is different than the other OK”s I had during those 2 years…I’m literally 90-95% symptom free.I know it is too early for any definitive speech but trust me,the difference is humongous.
I don’t have the time to write my whole story so here are the basic tips
1.Look for the Low Food Map Diet. You do have some food intolerance 100% sure.http://www.healthhype.com/fodmap-diet-foods-to-avoid-in-ibs-bowel-disorders-with-bloating-and-gas.html.You will have to eliminate a lot of foods and you will have to stay on this diet for awhile. What I ate was basically every kind of meat, fish, eggs, brown rice(if you are inflamed the fiber can do harm) white rice, rice cakes, rice pasta, olive oil,cod liver oil, celeriac and light boiled spinach
2.There is a 90% chance you have a bad bacteria/fungi/candida/parasites that does most of the harm. With me it was klebsiella pneumonia.I was fortunate enough that thru the various fecal test I gave,I found a good specialist that found the klebsiella and found that I had almost no good bacteria in my gut.The approach was-they put me in the hospital and threat me with antibiotics that will kill klebsiella. While I was on those antibiotics I was taking systematically probitiocs in high doses(I don’t know what do you have in your market.Im from Bulgaria and the probiotics I took were from the pharmacy. Some names include enterol, linex, probien, lactoflor, enterosan, imunobor). You need probiotics after the antibiotics doses cause antibiotics kill the good bacteria too and you can develop some huge problems if you don’t take probiotics together with antibiotics. So we killed the klebsiella we did the test and there was no more klebsiella. So I continued with the probiotics and then the things started to get interesting.I was going less and less times to the bathroom and my stools are looking literally perfect now(hasn’t happened since forever). Now I have no bad bacteria and I keep taking probiotics to repopulate the good flora in my gut.
3.If your stools are not perfect and you go to the bath often be it diarhea or not,you probably have leaky gut syndrome.Go to google and write “leaky gut”.Start reading those pages. You will find a lot of info that you need to know and do
4.Take good enzymes with your meals.
5.As suplements numero uno is probiotic. Also you need to take Omega 3,vitamins and minerals(you need vitamin D)
6.Don’t go off salofalk and prednisolone.I think that until you are much much better these two medications play a big part in remission
I have had good luck reducing my Thyroid antibodies by taking antioxidants like grape seed extract and N acetyl cystine(NAC). NAC is a precursor to glutathione which is one of the most powerfull antioxidants. I have limited my gluten but not completely eliminated it. My ND tested me for gluten intolerance and he said I can eat it.
I have also eliminated eggs and most dairy.
My goal is to get the antibodies below the lab range and to not have to take thryorid hormones.
As far as I know there is no known root casue for Hashimotos but it it can be controlled it is better than ignoring it until your thyroid is destroyed, ineffective and you are on HRT. This is the current approach by allopathic medecine.
Dr. Hyman,
If you can give us more info on dealing with Hashimotos disease I would appreciate it.

Have you been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease? Yes. Hashimoto and vitiligo. Also had gestational diabetes and high bp that has not seemed to reverse (+ 8 weeks). I am back down to my pre-pregnancy weight and am not considered overweight.
How have conventional treatments worked for you? Started at .075 mcg syntroid 3 years ago. Currently at .175 mcg.
Do you plan to try any of the lifestyle approaches mentioned here? Yes – just started reading. I already eat whole foods, but will be eliminated gluten this week.
Hi there, I’m hoping you can help me. I am a type 1 diabetic, diagnosed at at 23, age 34 now. I’m on an insulin pump and have pretty good control. I also have hypothyroidism and was diagnosed with Celiac Diesease 3 yrs ago and have been gluten free since, while things have gotten better, I’m starting to have swollen glands, my dr thinks it might be sjogrens syndrome (I haven’t been tested). It seems like just when I get one automimmune diesease under control I get another, get that one under control and then another pops up. I would like to get to the bottom of this. I take on a daily a multi-vitamin supplement, 1000 mg of vit D3, 1000mg, vit C, Calcium, lysine and magnesium. I do have joint pain every once in a while, I excersie regularly and try to eat right. Although I have to admit I don’t eat enough vegetables. Do you have any suggestions for stopping my body from attacking itself?

Hi and thankyou for your site. I too am very sick with autoimmune . I was very happy to see your site and read about other peoples stories. Unfortunately, not one question really was addressed here. I think other people would have been disappointed too. To not be able to read of at least one suggestion. I too also realise that these are all complex situations. These people are all struggling and would im sure have appreciated a little feedback (however small),
thankyou
Debbie
I read some of the older posts and when reading Mirandas it was like lokking back a few years at my life.
I am 28 and was also diagnosed with UC at 24 I was given prednisone, then asocol along with a ton of other drugs, I stopped taking them when I started losing my hair, then a year and a half later at 25 I had to have emergency surgery to have my entire colon removed, that’s when I lost my teaching job because I was in the hospital for two months. Then at 26 and 27 I had 2 surgeries to have my iliostomy reversed. Between the 2nd and 3rd surgeries I was in constant pain, but after the 3rd I thought that I was finally done. How can you have colitis (irritation of the colon) without a colon, It was until about 4 months ago when I was hospitalized again for an obstruction that I realized how much all of my problems are related. My GI doc said it was my use of anti-inflammitories that cause the new issue that they want to operate on. And now that those are no longer available to me my joint pain is unbearable! I am so frustrated I don’t know what to do any more. I ate very well, balanced before all of this happened. now fruits and vegetables make my symptoms worse and cause pain, so my diet is poor right now, my doctors have me on a low fiber, low residual diet, eating crap makes me feel like crap.
I tried a no grain diet before, “ending the vicious cycle” I couldn’t do it.
I have had so many tests but I don’t know what they were all for, I was usually in too much pain to care.
One last thing I am on medicaid (lost my job because of the disease) do you think I can find the right kind of doctor, that takes medicaid?
Dear Dr. Hyman,
For years I’ve had constant itching in my palms and feet (red blotches and warm), on my body (straight lines) and have been on all the possible allergy medicatios from off the shelf. I am now prescribed 20 mmg of Non-Drowsy Reactine a day which never fails to maike me drowsy enough. And intestestingly enough, since last september my liver enzymes are elevated. No diagnosis has been made and my doctor says it’s nothing yet to be concered. However, I am and have all kinds of thoughts racing my mind one being I might have autoimmune hepatitis. Hence would I be able to naturally reverse the enzymes to normal and if so how? What would you as a doctor recommend? I am stressed and anxious and seek your help.
Thank you Dr. Hyman.

hello Iwas diagnosed with diverticulitius, diverticulosis, Chrohns, Ulcerative collitus actually all Ibd diseases. I have absolutely no energy, constantly depressed, can’t work due to the fact I spend most of the day in the bathroom. I know that there are things I need to get done and I just can’t do it due to the lack of energy. I was a professional athlete and now I can barely make it off the couch. Also one other thing I left out was I broke my back several years ago so I’m also in chronic pain not only from the back not healing properly but also because of what I have listed above. Any suggestions I’ve been to several doctors but all they want to do is prescribe a new medication and mainly after I have tried them for awhile you may as well just throw them out the window cause they just do not work.

Hello Dr.Hyman,
I have been diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis cross over with PBC and have been diagnosed with other related autoimmune diseases such as sjogrens, and lupus and have experienced low vit b12, pernicious anaemia, lichen planus, lichen sclerosis etc. My lovely mum also had this disease and passed away over 20 years ago now at the age of 64. I am 53 and have been diagnosed for over 15 years but until now have managed to avoid taking steroids. Recently my blood results were such that my doctor (at Kings College London) decided that I could no longer carry on without taking the dreaded steroids and after liver biopsy I have started on budesonide. However, after browsing the internet trying to become an expert patient (I would rather understand everything there is to know about the disease) I came across you. I am very interested in your view on all things autoimmune and thought it makes a lot of sense to me. I would love to purchase the mentioned book by Donna Jackson Nakazawa and will endeavour to obtain this. What else would you suggest to me? I am interested in finding out about getting tested for mercury and other heavy metals. I live in England, near London. I would be grateful for your recommendations. Thankyou.

After a lifetime of healthy exercise, mental stimulation, I am diagnosed with lupus. My platelet count went down to 10. and put on prednisolone 60 mg. + ancillory drugs to counteract the many side effects. After 3 months this has been reduced gradually to 30 mg.per day, plus Axathioprine 100 mg. +hydroxychloroquine sulphate 400 mg + calcium carbonate with Vit D.
+Lansoprazole 30 mg. I am 78 yrs old and until the onset of lupus, worked 50 hrs and week, played tennis twice a week, look after 1.5 acres of garden and large house. I have a dread of cancer development. Does this seem an excessive use of drugs?

Hi, I’m 29 years old and have spent my whole life being sick. I’ve been researching for myself and studying natural healing since I was 14 but because I can’t seem to stick to anything, nothing lasts. I would like to have a doctor who actually cares about me and my health.
I live in Canada and have become completely disgusted with our healthcare system. The mentality is, let’s wait and see… Its probably nothing, (without doing tests) and then finally, “let’s mask the symptoms”.
I suffer from a multitude of things one being severe Psoriasis.
I’m ready to end my life. I can’t take it anymore. Its too much and it doesn’t seem to be worth it. I’m tired of fighting with my own body and I’m tired of my body fighting with itself. I work very hard full time, live alone (I’d NEVER have children and risk passing any of this down to them…) I wish I could say I’m just making it but if I was anywhere else I wouldn’t be. I live in a friendly little village where the people are very nice, and I’m a very outgoing person on the outside, but inside, I feel SO alone.
I miss a lot of work because I get sick so often. I don’t know what to do, but between sever Psoriasis, severe migraines, asthma, colon/bowel problems/intestinal issues, colds and flus and infections… Its really gotten to me. I won’t spend my whole life like this. I refuse to, but I have a good doctor and yet, he’s still set in the “western medicine” ways.
So, thanks for listening, good luck to everybody. I wish you all the best and hope someday they come up with different ways. Till then, I can’t take this anymore.
Thank you, Jen for your message and your interest in Dr. Hyman’s work. Your question and constellation of symptoms represents a complex medical condition. Have any of the doctors at the Center seen an autoimmune response/bodily rejection to an IVC filter? A good friend of mine has experienced life threatening episodes of pericardial effusion/tamponade this year along with other inflammation in the body in what they think at the Cleveland Clinic is due to some sort of autoimmunce disorder. She had an IVC filter placed late last year. I see no evidence anywhere on the internet of this type of reaction to an IVC filter but thought I would ask if you have seen it at your Clinic. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
My son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in December of 2008. His sugar was 790 and his A1C was 12. By April of 2009, I started him on a gluten free/dairy free diet. It made an immediate difference! Since then, I have him on Vitamin D, Omega 3 fish oil and probiotics. He has been off insulin for over 2 years now and all antibodies are now negative. I am so glad to have found your website and would love to make a trip to Mass one of these days. I continue to research and look for ways to help my son continue to live a healthy lifestyle! Hi there, I’m curious if you or anyone else think that a raw food diet, fasting and urine therapy could possibly heal an autoimmune disorder together with fresh air, exercise and relaxation of course. I have hashimoto’s and recently had an encephalopathy happen, and I feel like my brain is affected by this disease and I’m pretty scared! Doctors keep sending me away and telling me they don’t know anything about it… I’m waiting to see an endocrinologist, but I don’t have a lot of faith in this because I’ll just be put on medication that might or might not work… If anyone has any advice please share!!!
I have Dr. Hymans book, Ultramind solution, I plan to follow the 6 week plan and think he is a Godsend to the medical world in North America. I just discovered this website………and wanted to pass on……….I think there are some problems with it, which may ultimately turn people off from Dr. Hyman’s work….which would really be a shame. This comments section is one of them (problem)…in that almost the entire answer you give is word for word the same…….looks simply like a shallow sales pitch… also where are the questions/comments people put in (that you are supposedly answering). Hope I don’t sound simply arrogant, but I think the benefit of having this comment section would be in people reading and identifying with the problems or comments made by the people, not by these carbon copy answers I am reading here.

I have found this website while looking for something to counteract my problem with alopceia areata. Currently, I have been receiving steroid injections for the past 27 years for spotty hair loss. I am so frustrated after receivng more injections today. Six years ago, I had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in my right thyroid and the left thyroid was removed. I had 5 rounds of Chemo and 21 sessions of Radiation to my neck and head. Therefore, I lost all my hair and the radiation destroyed my saliva glands affecting my teeth and gums. I have started back on the steroid injections for my hair. The hair is responding but this has been going on for 27 years. I would like to feel the wind blowing thru my hair while I ride my horse. My cancer treatment was in Germany and the Radiation was given at 35 – 85 grays. I have moved back to Texas and work at Fort Hood. I have gained 40 pounds since moving back but I try to exercise with my horses, I clean out their stalls three times a week, and have high cholesteral, total 365. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Deborah

Hello. I was diagnosed with kidney disease about 3 years ago. I went on dialysis and just recently had a kidney transplant. I am interested in info and have been since getting sick on the types of food I should be eating and what will keep my transplanted kidney healthy as well as the rest of my body. Thanks for any info you might have.
I have been diagnosed with kidney disease about 3 years ago and had started dialysis about 8 months later. In may i received a kidney transplant. I have been searching and praying for info about what type of diet is best for our bodies and how to keep my new kidney. I have gone back and forth about whether i need to be raw but is so stressful to cook that way with long recipes. Also, about whether meat in small amounts is good. Thanks for any info!
I think you should spend some time looking into dis-regulated immune system as the underlying cause of autoimmune diseases. Example, T cells attacking epithelial cells is responsible for celiac, disc, arthritis, rosaisia some allergy/asthma, the list will be growing.
Recent research is showing that peptide injections can calm the dis-regulation down.
I have suffered with a compromised and dis-regulated immune system for 40 years.
The havoc that I deal with has rendered me to a fatigued, pain ridden and unproductive life.
Any information you could gather on the subject will be greatly appreciated
I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis a few years ago and never took the thyroid hormone medication because I was trying to heal my immune system natually. My doctor recently told me that once you “have” the thryroid “disease”, then you can’t fix it through lifestyle and so I began taking the medication a few days ago. Do you prescribe thyroid hormone to your patients?
Hi Denise, please read http://drhyman.com/a-7-step-plan-to-boost-your-low-thyroid-and-metabolis-776/. In this article you can try the 7 steps, we hope it offers you relief.

My name is Francesca. I was diagnosed with dermatomyositis 5 years ago and RA 1 year ago. I am 65lbs heavier than I was 5 years ago due to the prednisone and the inactive, unhealthly lifestyle that I am now prisoner to. I just read your blog above and it gives me such hope. I just don’t know if I even have the energy to START the process. I did try to cut gluten out of my diet and I did see a difference in my pain level. I just didn’t stick with it. Thank you for your informative blogs and information. People like you give people like me hope.
As a teenager I was diagnosed with morphea, a localized form of schleroderma that is widely thought to be an autoimmune disease. For years after the original plaques formed on my shoulder there was no change (except when I got too much sun) but last year another small white itchy plaque surfaced and I’m afraid the growth of the disease is no longer dormant. I heard about the “MS diet” and other detoxification products such as FlorEssence but I haven’t tried anything. To my knowledge I do not have any food or other allergins….. anyways, I don’t have any pain associated with the morphea except for occasional irritation (but never pain) so I feel grateful that the disease has not really negatively affected me. The only other health issue I have is asthma (which began when I moved next to an active volcano spewing sulfur into the air so it may not be related to anything other than environmental factors). That said, I am worried about other underlying issues with autoimmune diseases and potential damage that may or may not be happening to my liver and kidneys. I look forward to looking into your book and seeing if your treatment can help. Any thoughts you may have are welcomed for this post or to my email. Mahalo for your help and concern.
Hi Mehana,
Thank you for sharing your story. It sounds like you have a lot going on! Perhaps the best place to start is with a simple detoxifcation to help rid your body of toxic inputs from your envirnment (albeit beautiful) and potential diet. While we cant usuall tell if we have food sensitivities it is pretty simple to become more aware when we begin an elimination diet. I’ve had symptoms for a few years now, but only recently had a blood test that showed positive for rheumatoid arthritis… My symptoms were mild & only occasional for several years… however, recently they have increased in intensity & occurrence… in addition, I’ve developed some symptoms that I’ve never had before… I relate much of this to the mercury filling that broke up & parts of which I’m sure I swallowed… I plan to make some changes in my diet & have applied for SSI Disability & if I receive that I will have Medicaid… but, otherwise will be solely on my own with this… I prefer to use ‘natural’ methods, but may have to resort to medication……… I was only able to get the blood test recently because I was able to get the county indigent health insurance, but it is very limited on what it will cover also… do you by any chance know of any resources in the north texas area that might be able to help me with this? I have emailed a study that is using stem cells from your own body to treat, but have not heard anything back from them as yet….
Thank you for your message and your interest in Dr. Hyman’s work. You might consider seeing a practitioner of functional medicine, see the “Find a Functional Medicine Practitioner” link at the Institute of Functional Medicine’s website. Understand that not all of the doctors listed here will fit your particular needs. Many different medical professionals complete this training, and you will have to do additional research on your own regarding a particular practitioner’s approach and whether or not it fits your specific medical requirements. This may include calling the practioner’s office, visiting his or her website, and/or scheduling a consultation.
Wishing You the Best of Health!
Hello Staff,
My son was recently diagnosed with MS. Like any mother, I hyper focused on why and what I could do to minimize, or reverse, the condition. More often than not, I have discovered the same findings as you have suggested.
If I may suggest a Tip !0: eat as much raw, organic fruits and vegetables as you can and switch to whole wheat products. This is difficult for most people because of busy lifestyles, or the high cost of purchasing organic foods, so they can opt to get their phytonutrients through Juice Plus. http://www.juicetotheplus.com
I am hoping that we minimize my son’s autoimmune dysfunction through diet and the other 9 steps that you mentioned.
Thank you for getting the word out!
Terri
Hello,
i have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, currently on all these drugs, methatrexate, sulfazine, hydroylochloquine, prednislone, , all which i am so fed up with. i believe in natural remedies, like acupunture, and supplements i take are vitamin D, vitamin C, omega 3 cod liver oil, Calcium and magnesium.
on top of all this i have changed my diet to a vegetarian diet, and i am also following the Alkaline diet.
all your information above sounds really good to me, all i want to do is to reverse the immune system (autoimmune), i started with this October 2010 and was diagnosed in April 2011 from my rheumatoligist, he is a very good doctor and has treated me very well, from being nearly unable to walk, bad pain, lots of inflammation, i am now feeling good, and have to go for blood tests every month, i am also recieving physio on my hands which seem to get pain and stiffness in them during the latter evening, i also experience a burning pain in my balls of my feet sometimes. but i wonder if i could possibly get off these tablets, i know the side effects are just devastating to me after reading up on them. my question is, how will i know if my immune system is getting back to normal, when all these drugs suppress the immune system, can you please help me to understand that, i can not talk to my doctor at my normal surgery, as they don’t want to know, and i need some answers, i know you are very busy,
many thanks
angela
Hi Angela,
Thank you for writing in about your concerns re: RA. I think this article is a great start. What can you try implementing? Ad for getting off the prescription drugs it is first very important to be under the care of someone who can help manage your transition. It seems you are comfortable with your physician. We might also recommend you work with a functional med practitioner who can better assist you and follow your care in person. Go to:www.functionalmedicine.org, scroll down to locate a practitioner, enter your zip code and select the best practitioner for your needs.

I see an acupuncture specialist that uses Field Replacement Therapy. He is able to “read”, through the use of a magnetic field, what has set off a flare-up, and correct it with a series of drops that I place under my tongue. It sounds crazy, but he is always spot on, and I usually feel 100% better in a matter of weeks or days. I have set up appointments for every 6 months for maintenance. I found him after trying several endocrinologists who always just seemed to focus on my TSH level, but never listened to me about all the other symptoms I was fighting.
Doctor how about these vaccines with mercury ? Don’t you think they could be causing autoimmune diseases ?
Thanks,Emma
Hi Emma,
Thank you for your interest in Dr. Hyman’s opinion on vaccines related to autoimmune diseases due to mercury. You can learn more about Dr. Hyman’s thoughts here: http://www.danielplan.com/healthyhabits/flushots/

Dr. Hyman & Staff, I have the greatest respect for Dr. Hyman and his passion for helping people become healthy and well naturally…especially those that suffer with Auto-Immune diseases. As I read this post, just wanted to bring this technology to your attention for 3 reasons: it is very well-researched…with 13 clinical trials in place, one major cancer study on over 7,000 cancer patients nationwide..ongoing study; and secondly, the NCD is helping people in significant ways as it relates to autism, MS, Crone’s, and many other auto-immune diseases; third and last, there are millions who don’t even know this technology exist….while leading researchers, toxicologist, and other physicians are calling it the greatest health breakthrough the health community has seen in over 50 years. Thank for all the work you are doing in health & wellness. Let me know if you have further questions. Bret T. Abner – Wellness Coach
I have a rare autoimmune disease (neuromyelitis optica) and have read several times about cutting out animal fats, dairy and eggs. However, I find that when I eat a piece of steak or a yogurt, it makes me walk better (I walk with a cane). Food seems to really affect me physically.. if I’m hungry, I don’t walk very well, but after eating certain foods I feel better. But, these foods are not what I’ve often read are the “best” for me. I am not iron defficient, but I am very low in the B vitamins as well as D, and have to take supplements. I guess my question is, are there caes where these recommendations do not work for a person?
I came down with Dermatomyositis February 2011. I couldn’t even lift my legs on the couch or pull up in bed. The first signs were the skin issues on my face, chest and hands. Then it moved to my scalp, neck and thighs. After the onset of the illness, I only had some muscle issues. It is almost a year and I am still getting around good, other than trouble getting up from a chair. I have hair loss which is very upsetting. They gave me Prednisone and Plaquenil.. I was allergic to Plaquenil and my skin got worse. They have tried to give me Methotrexate for the last 7 months, but I refuse. I have been following a diet of no red meat, dairy, corn, soy, sugar. tomatoes, no breads and oats only as far as grains. I am taking pure encapsulations of vitamins, Kaprex Al, Magnesium, Probiotics, Acetyl-l Carnitine , D3 and Wobenzyme. I am not sure how much D3 to take, but my D was low when I got sick. I can not go out in the sun with this illness. Can you give me any advice of what else I can do to fight this serious illness. I was given a drug in 2006 which put me into heart failure. I do not want to take dangerous drugs that can only mask this illness. Should this attack my muscles, I am in big trouble with a damaged heart.
Hi there, I recently came upon this site, and have since begun reading ‘The Autoimmune Epidemic’. I am shocked (and angry) that my doctor has never pieced my symptoms together as this site and the book do. I had guillaine barre syndrome 14 years ago, also suffer Raynauds syndrome, arthritis in hands, right hip and both ankles. I have gluten intolerance only diagnosed in November 2011, and asthma. I have been mostly vegetarian for about 30 years, and have recently gone vegan. My doctor thinks each of these illnesses are nothing to worry about and are not specifically related. She told me the arthritis (recent xray shows moderate damage in hands) is to be expected as we age. (I am 48). What is my best approach to reversing damage and minimising pain and fatigue? Thank you so much for having this information available, or I might still be on the merry-go-round of despair. regards Jennifer.
Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for sharing your concerns about your autoimmune conditions. You have sure been through a lot and we are glad that this information has been of use for you. In order to provide you the proper care you need we hope you will seek the attention of a local qualified Functional Med practitioner soon. To locate a doctor who practices functional medicine like Dr. Hyman, go to http://www.functionalmedicine.org and scroll down to where it says “locate a practitioner” and enter your zip. Progress accordingly from there.
What you are doing with the gluten is great- keep on without it and continue eating an anti inflammtory diet- high in fiber, low in sugar. Choose foods with omega 3′s such as flax, walnuts, salmon, mackerel, herring, trout and sardines and take a supplement (especially with EPA for the inflammation).
It might be helpful to look at your ability to detox and check your gut function. Both of these systems are an integral part of your immunity which is directly linked with autoimmune issues of course! Check with your local functional medicine provider for appropriate ways to address these.
In good health,
Lizzy
Thanks Lizzy, for the info. I checked the website you gave me for a functional medicine practitioner but none near where i live so I have purchased Dr Hyman’s book and will do the 6 week program, as well as follow the advice you have given. Thank you for your help. Your website is very helpful and informative. regards Jennifer
Have you been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease? yes, Myasthenia Gravis. I am a 70 YO male
How is your doctor treating you?
With Prednisone and Mestinon, both of which have bad side effects. He wants me to start Cellcept/ Mycophenolate,an immunosuppresant drug, but it can cause Lymphoma and other nasty side effects
Have you been frustrated by the medical advice that you’ve been given? Yes, because as you have emphasized, he only treats symptoms and doesn’t look at root cause. I researched myself and wrote a model based on the Herpes virus (Zoster, CMV, EB,) I all of which I have antibodidies for but he dismisses it as not verifiable.
What steps have you taken to get to the root of the problem, and what have your results been? I take Omega 3s, Vit D3, Lysine, an excellent mutivitamin/mineral (Schiff over 55) calcium, CoQ10, manganese(Thymus),Pumpkin oil, Zeaxanthin/Lutein( mild cataracts), Glucosamie/Chondrotin(degenerative disc disease)
I have searched for a naturopathic doctor but they are not MDs like you and after watching you on PBS today I realize I need a functional doctor like you. It is very frustrting for me because I thought I was doing everything right according to my nursinfg students. I was eating Whole Foods, taking supplements, drinking pure water, quit alcohol, sleeping better(controlling apnea with a dental appliance), and then I had to retuire due to the Myasthenia.
Can I come to your clinic, meet you and have a consultation? Is that possible? You sir are the future of medicine and I wish you well! Keep up the good work!

Nutrition Coaching Program
I attended a wellness program today at my leadership training. At the break I spoke with the presenter, Dr. Kent Peterson, about my recent diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis (June 2011). I have tried a number of medications with no our little success – sulphasalzine (discovered a sulpha allergy) and Humira.I currentlytake a handful of pills (prednisone, mobic, plaquenil) and supplements twice a day and Remicade infusions every 6 weeks (I just completed the loading dose. The jury is still out on the effectiveness of the Remicade and my RA is considered to be at suboptimal control.
I mentioned to Dr. Peterson that in my reading to better understand RA that I read several articles that covered the topic of RA and nutrition generally and specifically how certain foods may trigger RA flares. I asked Dr. Peterson if he could recommend a resource that provides nutritional guidance for RA suffers. Dr. Peterson recommended The Metabolic Diet (a paperback) by Dr. Mark Hyman stating that you were doing work with autoimmune diseases. I assumed Dr. Peterson had provided me with the title of the book. Unfortunately, I am unable to find a book by Dr. Hyman entitled The Metabolic Diet.
Could you please provide me with the title of a book you have written that may be the one recommended by Dr. Peterson? I would very much like guidance on a nutritional plan that will hopefully give me some relief of my RA symptoms and reduce my reliance on a pile of pills that dampen my immune system.
Any direction you can provide is greatly appreciated.

I was diagnosed with psoriasis in college over 20 years ago. It is a mild case confined mostly to my scalp, inside of ears and some areas on my torso. Recently I have had an “episode” with my eyes diagnosed as vitrious sac collapse and am still working through that and am not sure the diagnosis was correct. I also am experiencing joint pain and have always had periods of extreme fatigue that are only getting worse. By themselves these symptoms are irritations but combined, they are diminishing my quality of life. I don’t go to the doctor much because frankly I feel like a whiner when they can’t really tell me why these things are happening – oh and I should add the bowel issues are there as well.
I have been prescribed betamethasome diproprionate for the psoriasis but it is completely ineffective presently. I am concerned about the additional symptoms and the treatment of the symptoms individually rather than systemically.
I’m excited to find this site and will read the book as soon as possible. Nice to hear there could be some hope.

hello,
I found your article very useful, for your research it will be very usefull if you do some reserch in homeopathic medecene, because, the base is same here as well, as homeopathy doesn’t cure dieses but symptomes, on theory of like cures like.
also its faster then all the allopathic medecene, I bet, but it depends on doctors ability of selection of medecene. there are more then 3000+ medecene for serch ofcource there is key & softwares to choose the best for you symptomes.
if medicine is wrong then even if you take for life long there will be no benefit nor any side reaction (side reaction only when medicine taken in crude form or in some extremely high power dose like cm or mm as they suppress the symptoms, else power of 6 to 1m dont give any side reactions)
for reference to cure chronic deases like glandular or carcinomas one should take safely following prescription.
Just order these four medicines. bottle size 1 oz,
6 tablets (which should be kept below tongue) and taken only once in month.
1. sulfur 200 (after getting this tablets you may get some aggravations to pull out ailments from root, don’t be afraid its for good & it will be temporary)
then after one month take again 6 tablets of (only once)
2. Calcaria carb 200.
then after one month take again 6 tablets of (only once)
3. Lycopodium 200
then after one month take again 6 tablets of (only once)
4. silicea 200
then after this treatment if you still have any problems then mail me on 4all.ritesh(at)gmail.com.
Homeopathy does not have any side effects. If medicine is chosen correct then it will surely give good lasting affects.”
Interesting article. Thanks for the knowledge Dr. Hyman
