Functional Medicine is really a late bloomer. The fringe helping professions have been on to the FM concept for at least 100 years.
Since the profession of Medicine, as we know it, has been very methodically, and successfully highjacked by the pharmaceutical industry it is questionable whether or not FM will make much headway until they slay the dragon of “Big Pharma”.
I see at least a 100 year battle for any significant shift. Being “right” does not ensure victory. Of course that does not mean one should become resigned to the present inadequacies; just don’t expect a quick fix. The enemy is formidable.

Dr. Hyman I am follow you every exposition, teaching, orientation for long time, I never got a good fundamental medical model. How I desired to travel to Lenox MA , and explain my concern regarding sickness . I live in Canada, Calgary These last days I founded physicians that practice the functional medicine and your name are mention on that page, I was very enthusiastic.
My question is, a physician conventional can work in a medical health care that Canada has and taking the dynamic tool as a functional practitioner or do they only can work in a private clinic.
    Thank you,
    magda.

I have been following your writings, Dr. Hyman, and believe the new approach you bring to solving medical complaints by finding the root cause, is the correct approach. You may be a few years too early, however. Lab fees for a thorough work up are still a bit steep. Laboratory blood analysis would have to become more efficient – faster and cheaper. You have done an amazing job of drawing conclusions based on the data you have collected, providing many answers, but with a number of questions still to be answered. I am hoping that when the Veteran’s Administration concludes the data collection they are in the process of compiling, many more inferences can be made as to the root causes of many conditions along with the complications that follow. In the meantime, keep up the good work. You offer a couple of valuable components for even the most intractably I’ll. . . a fresh perspective, and HOPE.
    Best regards.

Some of your quizzes are difficult to answer accurately, as they are two-part questions, and one part is a “yes” and the other part a “no”, particularly you’re depression quiz.

Thanks for the information about other courses of study. I would probably be interested in classes of various kinds, but will have to wait for a better time. It’s so important to keep learning. The brain is not static. If it is not being stimulated in terms of learning new skills and methodology, you will be losing connections. Best wishes for ever-greater achievement.
