Acne
Public Group active 2 weeks agoAcne vulgaris (or cystic acne) is a common human skin disease, characterized by areas of skin with seborrhea (scaly red skin), comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), papules (pinheads), pustules (pimples), Nodules (large papules) and possibly scarring. Acne affects mostly skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles; these areas include the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back. Severe acne is inflammatory, but acne can also manifest in noninflammatory forms. The lesions are caused by changes in pilosebaceous units, skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland, changes that require androgen stimulation.

Acne 2 months, 1 week agoI am 49 years old. When I was 46, I started getting severe cystic acne. It was so bad that I did not want to leave the house. A dermatologist prescribed spironolactone, which decreases testosterone, which is assumed to be the cause of acne at my age. I’ve been on this drug for 3 years. If I skipped this pill for 2-3 days in a row, I would wake up…[Read more]

Acne 7 months, 3 weeks agoUsed to have acne, but since on BSS it has disappeared. On whole, skin is in better condition, but still have scars from the past. I’m pleased though and think it’s due to BSS, but not sure what part of BSS is responsible.

Hi Prudence, As you slowly reintroduce foods your may notice what is bothering your system. I am in month 6 and have noticed wheat and many grains are a problem for me. Also, I am not diabetic but sugars cause me problems. My problems are not with acne; they are inflammation related, joint pain, restless leg syndrome and foggy brain.
Stay well, Margaret

Acne 7 months, 4 weeks agoIf the dietary changes do not help, take a look at your dental heath. If you happen to have root canals done, these could be the hidden sources of inflammation. For more info google Price-Pottenger foundation.

Acne 8 months, 2 weeks agoHello, I joined this group to say I was very happy to see Dr. Hyman’s take on acne. I thought I would share my experience, as it may help others. I started suffering from severe acne when I was about 12. I have bad scars all over my face. Throughout my life I went to many dermatologists, who prescribed antibiotics (which helped while I was taking…[Read more]

Acne 1 year agoHi, I developed acne right around the time I turned 30. After I really stuck with the Blood Sugar Solution diet, cutting out sugar and dairy, my acne is finally starting to clear up. I really believe this diet has made a huge impact on my life because there were a few weeks where I went back to some of my old eating habits, and I broke out all…[Read more]

Acne 1 year, 1 month agoI have had acne since my early teen years. Today at 52 (menopause) I still have acne. A course of accutane greatly improved my acne at age 40. I have also taken antibiotics for acne intermittently for the past 25 years. I am sure that didn’t help my poor digestion. (I am lucky to eliminate 1 -2 times a week) Well, the good thing is I get…[Read more]

Missy congratulations. Your hormone imbalance is fixing itself with the assistance of a healthier way of eating. That is great to hear! Nicole
How exciting for you Missy!
I was given that drug to take for a heart condition. I had a reaction to it and broke out in a very bad rash. It is amazing how one body will clear up skin after spironolactone and another body will break out in a rash.
I have given up three prescriptions on this plan.
Blessings, Margaret
Missy, that is very good to read. I am happy for you. As someone who at age 57 still has the occasional pimple, I know that they are no fun. Embarrassing to me in fact. Yea for you!
So many benefits from this program besides the weight loss! I do not have the acne so much but do break out in a rash to so many things. I have the most sensitive skin so I rarely try new products or supplements for that matter. Susie
