Cholesterol
Public Group active 4 weeks agoCholesterol, from the Greek chole- (bile) and stereos (solid) followed by the chemical suffix -ol for an alcohol, is an organic chemical substance classified as a waxy steroid of fat. It is an essential structural component of mammalian cell membranes and is required to establish proper membrane permeability and fluidity. In addition, cholesterol is an important component for the manufacture of bile acids, steroid hormones, and vitamin D. Cholesterol is the principal sterol synthesized by animals, predominantly in the liver; however, small quantities can be synthesized in other eukaryotes such as plants and fungi. It is almost completely absent among prokaryotes, i.e. bacteria. Although cholesterol is important and necessary for the aforementioned biological processes, high levels of cholesterol in the blood have been linked to damage to arteries and cardiovascular disease.

Cholesterol 4 months, 1 week agoI have been using the Blood Sugar Solution Since June. It has changed my life! I have lost 35 pounds and am now within my optimal weight. Previous to coming on the plan I was on statins for cholesterol and my doctor was encouraging some medication for glucose levels. I am also being treated with Thyroid medication. When I went on the plan I asked…[Read more]

Cholesterol 5 months, 2 weeks agoI started the book a couple of days ago and I’m getting so much out of it! My triglicerides are high and I was also diagnosed prediabetic. I’m excited and nervous to start the program. My question is, has it been worth it to you? Are you seeing positive results? Any tips for a newbie?

Margaret Foster replied 5 months, 2 weeks ago
Hi Julie, This has been totally worth it and much easier than I thought it would be. I was very excited to start the program so the first few weeks were easy because I was so motivated to succeed. Many things changed for me, like no more foggy brain, arthritis gone, acid reflux gone, blood pressure lower, weight reduction, more energy, more…[Read more]

Cholesterol 9 months, 2 weeks agoI am working very hard to keep my cholesterol and triglycerides in control, to get off my meds. I am wondering whether smoked salmon is a good source of omega 3′s for my food program. I use just Alaskan wild caught salmon fresh when I can find it and canned as well.
I am trying to broaden my protein sources, and I do love smoked salmon!

Cholesterol 10 months agoI’m on Lipitor and it is controlling my cholesterol, and perhaps that includes HDL and LDH (?) – all are normal. I got the recommendation to take Red Rice Yeast, which lowers cholesterol My doctor advised me not to take that supplement, because it would cause an overdose on the two medications. I sort of like the idea of OD and driving my…[Read more]

Cholesterol 10 months, 1 week agoHave had Doc’s book now for eight months or more and have not followed it as closely as I should have….so, feeling crappy. My fault. Going to get my cholesterol testing done this coming Monday (7/23) at an Any Lab Test and do not know which test to ask for in order to get the cholesterol particle sizes tested. Help please!
-
Margaret Foster replied 10 months, 1 week ago
Hi Victoria, Which book are you following? I could not get the particle size tested. myself. I just went with the tests I could get. The blood sugar solution mentions an NMR lipid profile on page 181.

Cholesterol 10 months, 2 weeks agoI received my tests back, and my cholesterol levels were not as good as they need to be, out of the range. My Triglycerides were 125, LDL 99, HDL 61, and Total 181. Unfortunately, the lab that did my tests, did not provide actual particle size, but rather that LDL size was ”A” for example, so I’m not sure what that means, will have to wait until I…[Read more]

Hi Susan, Did the quizzes indicate you should be on the advanced plan? Page 181 indicates you should go on the advanced plan if you have those indicators. It does not say to avoid the advanced plan if the indicators are no. If you have a call to follow the advanced plan, do so.
The basic differences in the two plans are no grains and less starchy…[Read more] -
Thank you. These are typical with my cholesterol levels, though my triglycerides have slightly increased so I’m working on those. I have a fairly sedentary lifestyle due to working in an office environment, but have added daily exercises back into my routine in the last week. We eat organic, grow our own mostly, and have a fairly healthy diet…[Read more]

Cholesterol 10 months, 2 weeks agoI’m taking Lipitor for high blood cholesterol. I haven’t started the 6 week program yet. Still collecting lab results. But I’m wondering if the BSS will allow me to get off Lipitor and return my cholesterol levels to normal?

Hi Prudence, There is no sure thing here, but some people’s cholesterol and blood pressure have dropped lower.

Cholesterol 10 months, 2 weeks agoI am trying to figure out what oil to cook with. I bought extra virgin, organic olive oi, but I have read that it candoes break down in high heat? Like when sauteeing?
Any thoughts?-
Hi, Cook with light olive oil when sauteing. Save your lovely tasting and healthier olive oil for salad dressings and other recipes, even baking.
good luck Margaret-
just wondering replied 10 months, 2 weeks ago
I am trying to figure out whether the way I saute veges, etc will break down the extra virgin olive oil. So far, it seems that as long as the oil does not begin to smoke, then it is not breaking down. Any thoughts? I prefer to just use the organic extra virgin olive oil, but want to be sure it is healthy when cooked this way.
-
Hi, I love your questioning mind, your moniker fits! I am the same way, I call myself an ‘information junkie’. The problem with using the ‘smoking oil’ method is that when you approach that point it is too late. The oil will start to break down before you see smoke. If you saute at a lower temp. (350 or less) you will be fine. Stay in a range…[Read more]

Hi Jim, you are going great!
I too take statins. I resisted for 8 years but finally started after an issue. I want to get off of them, but when I stopped, my cholesterol went from 150 to 256. My HDL stayed the same around 60. I will take the statins for a while then try getting off again.
I am part Italian and everyone in the family has had…[Read more]
Hi Jim. That is fantastic news! You are an inspiration. Today is the first day for me on the BSS advanced plan and I am highly motivated to get my cholesterol levels within an acceptable or better range. My doctor just told me she was going to put me on statins for high cholesterol but I was given a 3 month reprieve after I told her I would be…[Read more]
