Diet & Nutrition
Public Group active 2 days, 22 hours agoIn nutrition, diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism. Dietary habits are the habitual decisions an individual or culture makes when choosing what foods to eat. With the word diet, it is often implied the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management reasons (with the two often being related). Although humans are omnivores, each culture and each person holds some food preferences or some food taboos, due to personal tastes or ethical reasons. Individual dietary choices may be more or less healthy. Proper nutrition requires the proper ingestion and absorption of vitamins, minerals, and food energy in the form of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Dietary habits and choices play a significant role in health and mortality and can also define cultures and play a role in religion.

Hello all,
I’ve learned to keep my diet pretty simple; I brand new at eating strictly whole foods, cutting out all additives. It’s been about 3 months now, I’ve dropped 28 pounds and I’m walking and doing strength training, each of them every other day. I’ve gotta say that it’s been quit the adventure coming from an almost completely…[Read more]-

Hi, Stephen,
Go to your profile, click on that, and you should see “CHANGE AVATAR” and there you can download a photo. Congrats on losing 28 pounds. Great job. Big congrats on exercising. So many of us refrain because we believe we can’t or it will be too hard. I always tell newbies take “baby steps” and feel proud of each tiny bit of…[Read more]

I went through the same search for answers and solutions and it wasn’t until I found the BSS book that my education and what to do was written in a way that I could / can understand and take serious action that brought serious results.

Hi Janine,
I just had my annual checkup at the VA Hospital with my M.D. and we went over my blood work that I had to do about a week ago prior to the appointment and my doctor was amazed at the results. Everything is normal or better than normal. I see an outside M.D. and had pretty much the same tests done maybe 5 or 6 months ago and pretty…[Read more]-

Also, above the message you should see the word ”Comment” in a box you can click on and that should bring you to the bottom of the message where you’ll find a reply box.

Plus I’m finding the words reply and delete under every message. It sure took a lot of trial and error, clicking this and that to get to this point.

Diet & Nutrition 4 weeks, 1 day agoThank God and BSS for Blueberry Muffins! I was browsing through Target this evening and before I realized what had happened, I found myself in the candy aisle and was seriously considering buying and devouring a (gasp) candy bar. Tomorrow, I will be starting week 12 on the advanced plan. I’m feeling good, I’m looking good, and my lab results…[Read more]

Good call! Have to make a point of baking those muffins again soon. My dessert treat this weekend was chocolate chia seed pudding.

Nicole replied 4 weeks, 1 day ago
’victoria – Congratulations on reaching week 12! It is best NOT to go down the grocery store rows with candy displays. Unfortunately Cravings are only made worse by indulging . So what’s the plan..are you going to remain on the advanced plan for another six weeks? Nicole

Victoria B replied 3 weeks, 6 days ago
I hear you loud and clear. It was weird because I know better than to even go down the candy aisle; there’s absolutely nothing there for me. It was almost like I was sleepwalking and woke up in the candy aisle. And yes, yes, yes – I’ve committed to staying on the advanced plan until October 2013 and then re-evaluate where I am at that time.

Hi, Victoria,
I am glad you were able to overcome those sudden cravings. It is always best to divert one’s eyes when passing the candy aisles, the bakery areas and any other part of a store that might offer temptation. It is not by chance that the bakery areas are near the front of grocery stores so that you are immediately tempted. If candy…[Read more] -

If you complete the quizzes here on line..or in the book , quizzes will recommend whether you should be on the advanced or basic plan. the main difference is explained on page 193 of BSS book. If you are on the advanced plan you avoid all grains, starchy vegetables and fruit except for up to 1/2 cup of berries a day.. raspberries, blueberries,…[Read more]

You are so right about getting stronger. Life is NEVER goi g to stop testing us, but each time we stumble we grow stronger and stronger as longer as we remember our goal and purpose. Janine, congrats for staying strong! Sometimes temptations can come at us hard so it’s great that you were able to stay strong. Maybe if you kept some healthy sweets like fruit as a snack it wouldn’t feel like you are depriving yourself of of anything. Keep up the good work, you’re awesome!!

74 in late afternoon was lowest-usually in low 80’s. Low 90’s is my usual fasting blood sugar in a.m.
Loved seeing a number in the 70’s range.-
JANINE replied 1 month, 1 week ago
AND, I had been snacking on nuts all afternoon.
-
Nicole replied 1 month, 1 week ago
Nuts because of the fiber and fat in them digest slowly…so I am not surprised that you where snacking on nuts and after a work out was in the 70’s …I am sure that your blood sugar went up after your work out as you digested the nuts. Nicole

-
Nicole replied 1 month, 1 week ago
You know that you don’t want to go below 70 right? You should eat a little something if you are in the low 70’'s unless you just finished working out. If you just finished working out it will go up on it’s own but if you continue to go down and go under 70 you should eat something like a strawberry to bring it up a little bit . Nicole
-
JANINE replied 1 month, 1 week ago
I work out in the a.m. The readiing of 74 was taken just before dinner. I am not on any medications and not at risk of going below 70. My late afternoon bv is usually in the Los 80’s and that is why I commented on the number. Because success in eating right can be measured in many ways.

You are lucky—many people go hypoglycemic without being on diabetic meds. I used to experience this on a continual basis before being diagnosed as diabetic. I believe Margaret Foster suffers from going hypoglycemic if she is not careful about what she eats. I believe it is caused by the body releasing too much insulin in response to the food you…[Read more]

I recently found some frozen smoothies at the local grocery store. I read the label and found NO SUGARS, NO PRESERVATIVES…. just pureed fruits and vegetables and juices of various fruits, wheat grass, barley, grains, some with tofu others without.
