Energy
Public Group active 4 weeks, 1 day agoFood energy is the amount of energy obtained from food that is available through cellular respiration. Food energy is expressed in food calories (labeling: EU kcal, U.S. calories) or kilojoules (kJ). Food calories, or the “calorie” units used often in nutritional contexts, measure amounts of energy 1000 times greater than the units in scientific contexts known also as calories, or gram calories (cal). Food calories are thereby referred to less ambiguously in some formal contexts as kilocalories (kcal) or kilogram calories. One food calorie is equal to 4.184 kilojoules. Within the European Union, both the kilocalorie (kcal) and kilojoule (kJ) appear on nutrition labels. In many countries, only one of the units is displayed.

Energy 1 month agoMy morning workouts have become so routine that I am thinking of increasing my workout time by adding repetitions. This will require my getting up even earlier, but I find my time in the gym so enjoyable that I am sure this won’t be difficult.
The gym wants to feature my transformation from highly obese to my present state. I begged off until…[Read more] -

Energy 1 month, 1 week agoIn 1981 I went on a diet/exercise regimen and dropped from 200 down to 160 pounds. I walked 1 hour every day but did NOT enjoy one second of that time. My focus was only on the weight loss. If only I had learned how great exercise could be perhaps I wouldn’t have spent the following 30years fighting the 90 pounds I gained after that…[Read more]

Thanks for the inspiration. And for reminding me that just showing up is powerful as well as being accountable to the people you see there every time you go . You never know when you just might be some else’s inspiration

Some of the great bodies you see are inspiring (enviably so!). Watching others who are where I was this time last year tells me how FAR I have come. Seeing others who are very fit and trim working out all the time like myself makes me feel good about my efforts.

Janine, this is such an inspiring post. I know that having the will power to get up move around, and even go the gym is sometimes more than half the battle so it is truly wonderful that you are keeping motivated this time around and are presenting yourself with new challenges!! Keep up the great work, and definitely keep updating everyone on your…[Read more]

Energy 1 month, 3 weeks agoWhile I may not live in the northern half of the country blanketed with snow, chilly temperatures here made me want to burrow under the covers and not get out. I really had to push myself to get up and get my green tea before heading to the gym. I felt great after my 70 minute workout, but walking to the gym in the cold wasn’t very inviting…[Read more]

Energy 2 months, 1 week agoClimbed 60 flights of stairs but I kicked it up a big notch by interval training I alternated 10 flights at a lower level of intensity then the next 10at double the previous pace.
There are cute signs in the gym that state that sweat is the best accessory. I was accessorized to the max during that workout!!!-

I can just picture you all decked out in your workout fashions! I am so proud of you and your success in this program and life. You continue to challenge yourself and it’s a motivator to all of us. You go girl!

Thanks, Susie.
I have a friend neighbor who joined my gym a couple of months ago. I sometimes ask her how she is doing and if she is enjoying her workouts. The answer has always been it is something she must do but she doesn’t enjoy it at all. Kind of sad to hear that. I challenge myself and try to find new ways to switch things up so I…[Read more]-

Hi Janine – Your health and vitality are an inspiration to me. When you feel your own strength, the motivation is already there. It is sad for your neighbor. Does she have alot of weight to lose? Maybe ask her to join you for a workout together? She may be intimidated or have personal issues going on too.

Thanks, Susie! You are going to be your own awesome inspiration, so just hang in there!
By friend and I have gone to the gym a few times together. She does what she has to do, but just doesn’t put her heart into it. She is a bit heavier than I am and I don’t think her goal is more than just having a good blood pressure and overall health. …[Read more]

Yea for you, Janine! I have begun a once a week high intensity interval training class on Wednesday nights. There are 6 of us in the class and it lasts 45 minutes. My husband is in it too. JANINE replied 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Sounds like something akin to ”Insanity” workouts! By plank variations I assume you mean plank poses to tighten and firm the core, right? Intense! You won’t be so sore next time and eventually you will be very, very strong! What is an EBX?
-
lisathnos replied 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Yes, regular planks held for a minute or so, ones where you jump your legs out and in, ones where you tap each shoulder back and forth. It IS insanity to me! It is designed to help glucose metabolism, improve fitness, and strengthen cardiovascular system. EBX is something new at my gym that is usually done one on one with a trainer and there are…[Read more]

Janine, just realized yesterday I was calling the apparatus the wrong thing! I am a dummy! It is a TRX equipment thingy, not EBX! Hi Lisa, For some people, if you have a small amount of animal protein (an ounce or so is plenty) right after using your muscles. If you are not a vegetarian it may be worth a try. It worked for me years ago when I was working with a trainer.

Good idea. I also have to not be such a hotdog! I started out strong and was doing so well but then when we got to the second and third round of the exercises I pooped out! Tonight I will slow down and not try and be the best in the class. The class is very intense though, lots of arm, shoulder, upper back work. I am strong in my legs from lots of…[Read more]

Energy 2 months, 2 weeks agoI am thrilled to see that I need to increase my pace on the treadmill during my morning workouts to keep from walking into the machine. Energy 3 months, 1 week agoMy first really full day back at the gym was this morning. I did cardio only after returning from last week’s cold. I am just barely less than full capacity…[Read more]

Meanwhile, I am folllowing a home exercise regimen of physical therapy to strengthen my…[Read more]

Tracy L replied 3 months, 2 weeks ago
that is wonderful. I just registered for a Race to the Top which is 50 flights. I am only up to 15 flights at a time now but hope to build up to 50 by the end of March. Great going.

Energy 3 months, 3 weeks agoDoes anyone have a solution for “healthy” food for long-distance athletes? In the summer, I may ride my bike for 3 hours or more and need to refuel. I now do not know what to use…[Read more]

Hi Donald. There are several choices in the recipes group. Blueberry or pumpkin muffins, made with almond meal or coconut flour, rather than traditional flours, also no sweeteners. These recipes are good for advanced and basic BSS plans. You could add more olive oil to recipes if you needed more calories.
The vegetable pancakes are shredded…[Read more]-

Nuts nuts nuts
raw nuts are great for you and super for your body to use for energy. I’d put some in a bag that you can snack on while you riding instead of letting your body get so run out of fuel. The same with water drink as you go instead of waiting. Celery with Almund butter (made with Palm fruit oil) could also be used in a small…[Read more]-

Hi Donna, I wanted to say that was a great remark you made the other day about PGX possibly interfering with quick absorbtion of prescription drugs.
I hope you are doing well.

Thanks Margaret,
I really worry someone on birth control will not know this and end up pregnant because of it.-
Margaret Foster replied 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Hi Donna, when i mention glucomannon or PGX I will try to mention that it can slow absorbtion of meds. I do not think it blocks absorbtion just slows, but i will see what I can find out. MArgaret

Fruit and nuts won’t work well enough?
-
Donald replied 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Thank you to Margret, Donna, and Janine for the recommendations. I tried nuts for a short ride this weekend and will likely stay with them unless I find they do not digest fast enough. I am not sure that the muffins or pancakes will work, since I need to carry my nutrition in the pockets on the back of my shirt. Nonetheless, I plan to try the…[Read more]

Dried fruit will spike your blood sugar even more than the fresh fruit will. Stick to 95% nuts and if you must 5% dried fruits.

Donald replied 2 months, 2 weeks ago
So I have been trying nuts and some trail mix, which has a few raisins in it. I am not having the stomach cramps that I feared from the nuts not digesting fast enough, though I definitely have to eat before I am hungry because they are taking a while to get into my system. The biggest issue I have had so far is eating while riding. I wear bike…[Read more]
