Migraine & Headaches
Public Group active 3 weeks agoMigraine is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by moderate to severe headaches, and nausea. It is about three times more common in women than in men. The word derives from the Greek ἡμικρανία (hemikrania), “pain on one side of the head”,from ἡμι- (hemi-), “half”, and κρανίον (kranion), “skull”. The typical migraine headache is unilateral (affecting one half of the head) and pulsating in nature and lasting from two to 72 hours; symptoms include nausea, vomiting, photophobia (increased sensitivity to light) and phonophobia (increased sensitivity to sound); the symptoms are generally aggravated by routine activity. Approximately one-third of people who suffer from migraine headaches perceive an aura—transient visual, sensory, language, or motor disturbances signaling the migraine will soon occur

Migraine & Headaches 4 months agoI used to get frequent migraines perhaps 7 a month. I used to take Axert but got heart palps. Was also on sleeping meds and progesterone cream to help with my hot flashes. Went off sleeping meds and prog cream and my migraines have gone down to once a month. How can I eliminate them totally? My dr wants me to go back on bio identical hormones as I…[Read more]

Migraine & Headaches 6 months, 2 weeks agoI have experienced two full blown migraines, but have also had optical migraines. Recently I experienced a week when I had them everyday. Are migraines in any way brought on by diabetes? I had never experienced them many days in a row before. I have looked them up for information online, but haven’t read anything about the cause, but thought…[Read more]

Hi Claudia-Are you on the plan at all right now?
-
claudia acker replied 6 months, 1 week ago
Yes, I started the plan last Wednesday. I had listened to the book on CD while traveling two months ago, but didn’t get the book until last week. But the streak of migraines happened during September while I was away. I had been eating healthy food, but not on the restricted eating plan. I only started that when I was able to read in the book…[Read more]

Migraine & Headaches 7 months, 1 week agoI have been getting migraines for 40 years. I am personally interested in prevention, more than what to do once I get one. I recently read the book “Cure your Headache” by Dr. Buchholz and it makes a lot of sense:
1. Reduce your exposure to triggers such as caffeine, various foods, and non-essential medications.
2. Eliminate rebound effects of…[Read more] -

Migraine & Headaches 8 months agoI have had migraines for thirty years. The headaches increased in frequency and intensity until I never experienced a day without one. Five years ago I gave up gluten and my migraines became manageable, but I still had too many. Recently, I started taking 800 mgs magnesium glycinate a few hours before bedtime, and it seems that my migraines are…[Read more]

Hi Kristi, you have my sympathy. I hope something in this plan helps you through to a time when they are not plaguing you. In your case you may look forward to middle age when most people’s migraines are mitigated.
Mine completely stopped in my 50’s.
Blessings, Margaret

Migraine & Headaches 8 months, 4 weeks agoI have been getting migraines for years, they last anywhere from 3-5 days and just wipe me out. My dr had me on premarin(hormone replacement) for awhile and it worked. Does anyone know of a natural way to get rid of these

Migraine & Headaches 9 months, 1 week agoI experience headaches that recur monthly, i relate this to hormone fluctuation. I also have noticed I sinus pressure and headaches during changes in the barometric pressure, right before a storm. I don’ t think they are migraines but I do have nausea, light-headed feeling, usually wake up with strong pain, when I move my head it effects the…[Read more]

I would bet that those are migraines associated with changes in pressure. I too experience this. Since there is nothing we can do about the weather, I am trying to focus on lowering all my other triggers which is why I’ve started Dr. Hyman’s plan. Hope it works!!

Migraine & Headaches 1 year agoHi, I’m a Newbie to all this, just trying to find my footing. I’m diagnosed as MAV–Migraine Associated Vertigo, which in my case consists of an inter-related inner ear and migraine. Any others out there?

janejabbour replied 1 year ago
Bev, I have occasional migraines, too, but I suspect I’m holding tension in my shoulders that translates up into the back of my neck/head. Do you think the BSS program might help with your inner ear issues? By the way, I think your profile picture might be passiflora incarnata…gorgeous flowering passion flower vine…yes?

bevpearson replied 1 year ago
Hi, Jane. Yes, my profile picture is my Maypop/Passionflower vine. I love my plant. It reminds me of my childhood–there was one growing itself out by my Grandpa’s barn and every summer I would go check on how it was doing. It makes a little fruit, the maypop, that is edible, but difficult to time ripeness on.
I didn’t see anything in the…[Read more]

Oh, the ”special” thing about the MAV–migraine associated vertigo–is that the migraine is expressed more typically as vertigo instead of a headache, and the vertigo lasts longer. So I wind up lying on the couch (it qualifies as an activity if you have vertigo, since you can lie still and feel the earth rotate!) for a week or so.

Migraine & Headaches 1 year, 1 month agoI’ve had a migraine off and on for the past four days. Unfortunately, I can’t take migraine meds because of other meds I’m on. I’m wondering if anyone has anything that has worked for them? My husband is coming home this afternoon to look after our daughter so I can just lie down in the dark, but obviously that won’t work full-time. And,…[Read more]

The tea (and coffee) are classic migraine relievers, and truthfully if a cup of strong green tea relieves your pain, that seems perfectly reasonable. Dairy is an equally classic migraine trigger – did you eliminate it as you began the program?
I use magnesium supplements with excellent effect for muscle pain and headaches. Too much can cause…[Read more]-

Elaine, Thanks for the info! When you mentioned dairy, I thought well of course I gave up dairy (for almond milk) but then I remembered the milk chocolate my daughter got for Easter, and that I tried a sample of, and a pizza we had, which broke all the rules, and a cheeseburger. I had been doing well on the eating front until about a week ago,…[Read more]
