Sleep Problems
Public Group active 1 month, 2 weeks agoA sleep disorder, or somnipathy, is a medical disorder of the sleep patterns of a person or animal. Some sleep disorders are serious enough to interfere with normal physical, mental and emotional functioning. Polysomnography is a test commonly ordered for some sleep disorders. Disruptions in sleep can be caused by a variety of issues, from teeth grinding (bruxism) to night terrors. When a person suffers from difficulty in sleeping with no obvious cause, it is referred to as insomnia. In addition, sleep disorders may also cause sufferers to sleep excessively, a condition known as hypersomnia. Management of sleep disturbances that are secondary to mental, medical, or substance abuse disorders should focus on the underlying conditions.

Sleep Problems 1 month, 2 weeks agoI just finished reading the blood sugar book and will say I am fighting with not being able to fall asleep or stay asleep. I have abandoned coffee, alcohol, sugar, anything processed at all and am eating mostly veggies and protein. No grains. Coming off all that stuff cold turkey – from one day to the next – really messed with my energy levels and…[Read more]

welcome Mair – I don’t have any answers for you for your various questions but wanted to say hello. Do you have any of Dr Hyman’s books. I sleep better since I have been eating healthy I have slept better probably because I no longer snack at night and no longer have any caffeine in my life either . You may want to talk to your doctor about…[Read more]

Hi mair, The Blood Sugar Solution plan might be helpful for you. If you are having tingling, it might be wise to talk to your doctor about that. If you have restless leg syndrome that is waking you up, consider the BSS plan. I have been following the plan for one year and restless leg syndrome and arthritis are gone. They will return if i eat…[Read more]

Sleep Problems 6 months, 2 weeks agoFor anyone: Self-hypnosis can be a great help here as well as in stress relief. Here’s a technique (I am trained in mind/body med. and taught stress relief, just to reassure you.):
Find a quiet place. Preferably sit, rather than lie down. (After you are proficient at this, you’ll be able to do it lying in bed). Do not cross your legs, or…[Read more]

Sleep Problems 8 months, 2 weeks agoI have a problem that I hear a lot people I know complain about but they seem to be able to get past it. I can’t. When I go to bed I have speeding thoughts and if I do manage to fall asleep I don’t go deep enough its like I am in a place of dreaming but thinking. I’ve tried meditating, avoiding TV and computers a half hour before bed. I now…[Read more]

I have recently found that not watching any TV at all after dinner helps with falling asleep. Now I read instead which is less stimulating that TV. I still struggle with repetitive thoughts (especially if something is bothering me) if I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep. If you have sleep apnea then being on the…[Read more]

Hello Beth,
I have had difficulty staying asleep some nights. Usually it’s the bathroom break, or just that I’ve had too much stimulation that day with caffeine/alcohol/searching on the web/watching TV, etc. I even went for a sleep apnea test which turned out to be inconclusive. The best medicine he could give me was to not take beverages…[Read more] -

Have a sleep test. That will tell you for sure. There are many types of sleep disorder. Mine is rare, so I’m told. It’s called PLMS (Periodic Limb Movement Syndrome) and mine was off the charts. When I thought I was sleeping, I wasn’t. My arms and legs were twitching so bad, they kept me in what’s considered an awake state. I was not…[Read more]

Sleep Problems 8 months, 3 weeks agoI am experiencing a new phenomenon and hoping someone out there has some information that might help me. I have started waking up every day at 4 AM! It doesn’t matter what time I go to bed. I am also waking up a few times before that but I either just go to the bathroom and go right back to sleep or if I don’t think I really need to use the…[Read more]

I would wake up after 6 to seven hours of sleep after being on the Bss plan for a couple of months. When that happens I get up because I do not feel tired. Since it is dark I go back to bed after one hour or so and fall back to sleep. I definitely need less sleep that I did before this program. I have a heart condition so it was common for me to…[Read more]

Team Hyman replied 9 months ago
Hi Beth. Have you tried sleep time tea before bed? Are you taking the time to relax before bed? Dr. Hyman recommends reducing all stimuli (media, food, drink) and relaxing. Magnesium supplements also help relax the body. Keep us posted.

Hi Sarah…are you diabetic? Needing to go to the bathroom during the night are signed of high blood sugar but could also be sleep apnea. Many people that have weight to loose have obstructive sleep apnea from being over weight and stop breathing many times during the night. since my blood sugars have gotten under better control with less insulin…[Read more]
Hi Nicole, thanks for answering! I have just had blood work done and everything came out fine, but I have recently starting drinking the recommended amount of water and my body is also adjusting to that. I just need to probably drinking it earlier in the day!
