Social Issues
Public Group active 3 weeks, 6 days agoSocial issues are controversial issues which relate to people’s personal lives and interactions. Social issues are distinguished from economic issues. There are also controversial issues that don’t fall into either category, such as wars. Such issues are usually pertaining to a particular society. The impact of social issues are only on the people living in that particular area.

Social Issues 6 months, 1 week agoIs this the forum/group for eating disorders? I can’t seem to find one that specifically discusses it. I’ve been on the program for 3 1/2 weeks and although I’m doing remarkably well considering how bad my eating disorder is, I have sabotaged myself 3 different times by binging on candy. And while I am frustrated with myself for doing it at…[Read more]

Social Issues 9 months, 1 week agoI am new to the group. Let me say 1st that now letting people define you is critical. In this politically world people somehow believe telling the truth is somehow wrong. I complete nearly 22 years on active duty in the US Navy. Now I have grown from 180 lbs to some 270 lbs. I still get out and help teach chess, works with scouts, support…[Read more]

Meg, I don’t have an answer for you, but I totally relate. I feel like I have been hiding out for so long. Because of my weight and because I’ve felt like crap for so many years. I hope that this new burst of energy from eating right and taking care of my body will help. At some point, if I’m willing to make these drastic changes in my diet…[Read more]

You feel the way you want to feel. You don’t let other people tell you how to feel. Don’t let their opinions of you influence YOU. They don’t know YOU. They judge you based on conditioning/brain-washing they are not even aware of.

Social Issues 1 year agoHi, I’m wondering how war/deployment related PTSD fits into this context of online communities/wellness. As with all mental health conditions, social support is both a protective and risk factor to the development of posttraumatic (PTSD) stress following the ‘impact’ of the stressor that is interpreted as traumatic. The initial responses of the…[Read more]

When you think about it, an online community would help all those that think they are the only ones. Sharing problems can be very cathartic. Feeling understood is a very powerful healer. It is easier to move forward when you feel others understand.
As for feeling alienated from the civilian population, it is almost impossible for people that have…[Read more] -

I think Margaret is right, the first step to healing is knowing you are not alone. Many people who struggle with emotional eating have experience physicial, sexual and emotional abuse in their lives. Sometimes it is family of origin, sometimes it is an experience like a crime, war, or accident. I think if people here knew they could share their…[Read more]

How have you been doing Amy? Kudos to you for making changes in your lifestyle and eating habits. While I’m no expert on eating disorders, I can certainly empathize with your challenge and I think it was absolutely amazing that you managed to only binge 3 times in 3.5 weeks! I think it helps to relax and not put any unrealistic expectations on…[Read more]
Hi Gillian,
Thank you so much for your story; you have no idea how much it means to me that you’d share that. It gives me great hope to know that someone experiences the same things I am. I am finally going to counseling; have my 2nd session on Wednesday. She says I emotionally eat and I think it’s true but I also think that my cravings are…[Read more]
