My sense of self and a positive feeling of self worth has been derived primarily from successfully losing weight for over three decades. Life would be better. happier, successful, more fulfilling if only I could lose weight. Nearly every thought, plan and movement was overshadowed by anguish over my morbid obesity and my desire to rid myself of all the excess pounds. Trouble was my emotions were intricately up in the whole problem. Overbearing. Critical, controlling and impossible to please mother and a husband much the same (throw in abuse for good measure) and simply surviving that minefield took priority over the highly desired weight loss. Food, especially sweets that brought back memories of childhood treats were my saving grace. Unfortunately, I never realized how much damage I was doing to myself until the pounds had piled on and by that time I was addicted. Losing weight isn't only about calories in minus calories spent. It is COMPLICATED. It takes time to bring to the surface all those issues and move forward. Then what? Here comes a new problem which is finding new ways to let ALL the weight go, accept one's new body as it is (which is not the body one hoped to discover from under all that fat), and find a positive sense of self that ISN'T derived from weight loss success. I find this whole weight loss process fascinating bug exhausting, too, as I try to understand the why of it all. It dawned on me this morning that maybe a part of me wants to hold onto some weight so that I have the opportunity to keep having that thrill from successfully losing?! One thing I know from being at this for the past 14 months ( and previous 34 years) is that once the issue surfaces it resolves itself and I can move forward. Giving up these last pounds feels rather like letting go of my daughter as she left home to become her own person. My identity was caught up with being her mom and then what when she was gone?! Feels the same with losing weight. Then what?! Studying may be challenging but it doesn't offer the same thrill of satisfaction as losing weight. Not only do I have to lose this last bit of weight but find a new way to be me and feel good about myself. Knowing what the problem is is the first step. It has taken nearly six months to reach this point. A recent post by my dear BSS friend, Margaret, helped start the wheels in my brain start turning. This site continues to be an invaluable part of the weight loss process but not always in way we expect!!!

Hi everyone,
I'm now in my 20th week on the basic plan, and as of this morning I've lost 44 lbs. This plan really has been a blessing, I've finally been able to accept permanent changes to my eating habits, something I've never been able to do before. I appreciate all the positive support from all of you on this site and the great recipes exchanged in the recipe group. It truly is one day at a time, as Shupac and others advised Rissa. Some days are easy and others can be one long trial and battle over what I should eat versus what I want to eat :).

Started my LIFE CHANGE after watching several PBS specials ( fund raisers of course ) about weight / food / health. I purchased on AMAZON several books Fast Diet by MICHAEL MOSLEY and BLOOD SUGAR SOLUTIONS ... I started my LIFE CHANGE after reading both books. I have since added SUPER IMMUNITY FOODS by Dr Fuhrman AS I needed to deal with my arthritis in a better way.... On the weekend or when I am not working I do the Fast Diet ... during the week when I work I do the BLOOD SUGAR SOLUTIONS. They are very similar in the foods they recommend for improving your health and immunity ... ... I have lost 15 pounds since the first of April and feel so much better. More energy, less insomnia, able to do more. with less pain.

I am writing this note in hope you will all join me in a campaign to contact PBS and tell them how helpful you find such programing such as BLOOD SUGAR SOLUTIONS ... but more so to ask them to STOP scheduling the cooking show that promote fat and sugar laden unhealthy foods. They have at least 15-20 unhealthy shows compared to THREE healthy cooking shows..... JAZZY VEGETARIAN, ZONYA BITES, AND CHRISTINA COOKS. They are encouraging our kids / grand-kids and us to be unhealthy. Let us encourage them to show healthier shows

Thank you

I need some moral support please. I fell off the program two weeks ago, gained weight and I feel awful. I'm finding it so hard to get back on track. I am eating all the wrong foods--sugar and carbs galore. Please help me with words and wisdom of support. Thank you all!

Hi everyone. I'm now on my fourth week of the Advanced Program and I've lost ten pounds and I don't intend on looking for it anywhere. I teach kindergarten and usually I'd come home after school, take the dog out and fall asleep for one to three hours. However, since I've changed the way I am eating I find I'm not as tired as I used to be. I don't take those late afternoon-early evening naps anymore. And I am sleeping quite well at night. So that is a really good change for me. I have a question about one of the receipes in the BSS Cookbook. What is green powder exactly? I have Dr. Fuhrman's VegiZest powder. Is that the same thing? It is for the "Healthiest Breakfast in the World" receipe. Thanks and have a great week everyone.
