Recipes 10 months, 2 weeks ago Hi,
Some of us are using almond meal or flour to bake or cook. There is a difference. Almond meal is more course. It has dark brown flecks from the skin of the almond. It is best in the muffin mix and if you are using it instead of bread crumbs to coat baked or pan fried fish etc.
The almond flour is light in color and a fine powder. This works well in pancakes, waffles and some other recipes.
I get my almond meal at Trader Joe’s and almond flower at Whole Foods in the bulk grain section.
If you are getting strange results (batter too runny, baked goods too heavy etc) from a recipe this difference might be the problem.
Interestingly, Trader Joe’s in the Bay Area has a shortage of the almond meal. The supplier ran out. I was wondering if the people on this site created enough demand that the stores ran short, Ha Ha!
Stay well, Margaret

That’s funny Margaret! I get my almond meal at Trader Joes too. I didn’t even realize there was an almond flour. Thank you for spelling out the difference for me. I do love the almond meal though!
