Supplements 1 year, 1 month ago I was temp dx as pre-diabetic, waiting for the rest of my labs reults. My 2 hour glucose showed my glucose level at 171. I am personally against prescribed meds and have always found natural remedies so I have been looking at supplements. Bought a products called Glucose Factors that has alpha lipoic acid, bitter melon, cinnamon, bilberry, ginko, fenugreek, chromium, biotin, vit c, vanadium, banaba, gymnerma sylvestre, and garcinia cambogia. I started taking this and already I can feel a difference.
My concern is that I see nothing on the labeling to indicate that it is FDA approved and I have a feeling my doc is not going to like this and will want to try meds instead.
Advise please.

If you are going to a doctor it is your choice to follow his instructions or not. Perhaps you could start the Blood Sugar Solution plan and see how it goes. I highly recommend the PGX capsules. I take one before 2-3 meals each day.The product I use is by Natural Factors. I think it helps my blood sugar stay level. (I am not a diabetic or a doctor). If you do start to take medication for your blood sugar and follow this plan, stay in close contact with your doctor. Some people on this plan have had very dramatic lowering of blood sugar rates from the start.
Stay well, Margaret
Margaret, thank you. I have some PGX on order and for now using a different fiber right before meals. I am finding that my resting glucose levels are slightly elevated. I have a meter and have been recording this so doc can help me with a plan.
The ingredients you’re describing sound similar to MetaGlycemx (which I actually think Dr. Hyman sells/recommends). I was given MetaGlycemx by a naturally-minded DO 8 years ago to replace metformin/Glucophage for my hyperinsulinism when I was nursing my then-newborn son and a study showed metformin to transfer via breast milk. It actually worked better than the Rx for many years. But I turned to BSS to get off of it because I’m not looking for a supplement to lower my blood sugar like the meds did, I’m looking for my body to work well. I’ve reduced the dosing from 4 pills/day (what I started with to replace the metformin) to 1 pill/day when I went on BSS.
I would say that yes, use the guide they have here to help you work with your Dr. but at the end of the day, you may need to find a new one. But there’s no question these supplements can work. My insulin levels were consistently better on the supplement than they ever were on metformin. The supplement wasn’t covered by insurance, but I really didn’t care (and thankfully was able to cut elsewhere to afford it)
Try and do some online research, but when you go to your MD, take your book with you and let him know that you are willing to do what you need to do to get healthy by exercising, eating right and taking the necessary supplements.
I had my doc appt yesterday. I thought he would want to talk more about the pre-diabetes test results but surprisingly enough he felt my ”pre” diabetes was nothing to worry about, gave me no instruction, nothing. He told me that they really didn’t wory til they saw readings above 200, mine was 171 on my 2 hour glucose test.
I did tell him I went to a no grain diet and I think he was quite shocked by the look on his face. 2 weeks now without any grains, no dairy or sugar including fruit and I am feeling better than I have in a long long time. First week my glucose levels were still going up and down but the second week they stabilized and just 2 days ago I got my first fasting glucose level in normal range.
I will stick with Dr Hyman advise from the book, so far it seems to be working for me!
Most people assume that it is the patient who refuses to consider making lifestyle changes that could reverse diseases, but when you have the kind of experience you had with your doctor, one has to wonder exactly where the hesitancy truly lies. Or Is it simply that those of us who refuse to be labeled as ”sick” or refuse to be doomed to a life living with a disease label seek out alternatives that help us control our health and take back the decision-making from the hands of ill-informed doctors, diabetes class ”teachers”, and the drug companies. This also highlights how important it is for each of us to be advocates for our own health needs and to become as well-read and informed as we possibly can be. You will soon see that your body readjusts and begins to work in a healthier fashion and your blood sugar readings will reflect that. Remember, it is a lifestyle change, not a temporary solution, so find things that you really enjoy eating and find an exercise that you can tolerate, if not enjoy, and you will soon reclaim your health!
