This is officially my day 1. I had 2 scrambled eggs with fresh salsa for breakfast. Maybe eventually I’ll only want one egg but right now I’m afraid of getting hungry. I miss my coffee! I have a headache so I guess that part of the withdrawal is real. Even so, I’m still very happy to be on this and very positive about the program. It helps so much to hear from others how well it works. Going to have about 1/8 c. of organic, raw almonds for a snack soon. I promise not to post my food log everyday, I’m just a little psyched about getting started. :-)

    • You Go Barb! a headache is a small price to pay for a lifetime of good health! Marsha

Happy Day#1, Barb! Reading about your adventure, I had this thought that may help. I tried adding egg whites to my one egg and I can’t even tell the difference. Good Luck!

      Hi Barb!

I used to drink 4-5 cups of coffee a day with splenda. I quit coffee cold turkey, but, at times, the headaches were bad. To get over the hump, I had to wean myself off it by first cutting in half for a week and then just one cup of coffee a day and after about two and a half weeks I drink no more than 1 cup of tea a day. It is a real addiction and takes a little time to get off it. This is my story. Hope you have luck quitting quickly.

Yeah, this caffeine thing is no fun. I’m going to try green tea. Since I made it though yesterday without coffee I’m going to try again today. I’m wondering if the lack of sugar might also be adding to the headache? Thanks for the post …. it’s always good to hear how misery spreads itself around. :-)

    • HI, Barb,
I took almost three weeks to wean myself off of coffee. Now, I am happy with one cup of green tea, and even that I will soon switch to decaf. Still, I have had some minor headache which is probably other kinds of detox going on. Going off caffeine too fast can really result in excruciating and debilitating headache. Good luck.

Hey Donna, thanks for your post. Yes, I’m getting some good advice on this topic. I love coffee but I think I’ll make it. Headache is not quite as bad today. I bought some green tea today and will have a cup later. I think your right about other kinds of detox going on. I sure ate a lot of processed foods and substitute sugar. I knew there would be withdrawal and maybe that’s a sign I’m a good candidate for this program.

    • YOU GO BARB!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

    • How’s it going now a week later, Barb?

      • barb replied 1 year ago

Hi Ruth, A week later and I’m amazed at how much improvement I’ve had in such a SHORT time. I have to pinch myself. This is a happy program to be on. I think I’ll stick with it. Thanks for checkin in. Barb – wk1 dy2

        • That’s great too. It’s amazing how quickly you see the results. I just saw a remarkable documentary available from Netflix called ”Forks Over Knives.” If you can get a copy of this DVD to watch, it may really support the changes you are making now.

Hey Ruth, Finally googled the documentary you recommended. I watched the trailer and it does sound very interesting. At first I thought it was an extension of Dr. Hyman’s works. Sounded so like him. I will try to watch the whole thing when I can. I appreciate the info.

            • The documentary shares some things with this program of Dr. Hyman’s–advocates a whole foods, plant-based diet. However the scientists interviewed in this movie cite compelling evidence for a vegan diet–they show that heart disease and cancer rates are much, much higher in people who include dairy and/or meat, fish or seafood in their diets. I will definitely cut back on these foods as a result of seeing the movie even if I never become 100% vegan. The China Study is a book I was already familiar with; it’s very well known. But whereas I found that book hard to plow through, the documentary is easy to watch and highlights much of the same information and more. The Blood Sugar Solution does give portion sizes for animal protein of 3 oz. and that’s a good beginning to cutting back for many of us.

I like that our protein is very limited. I’ve never cared for ”meat” that much. But honestly, sometimes I crave red meat when I’ve gone for a very long time without it. I’m guessing it’s something to do with the B Vitamins. The massive big farm chicken production has always bothered me so I’m very happy to switch to free range. Don’t know why I didn’t do that before. I think maybe I use to think that eating so many processed and junky foods sort of leaned me in the direction of eating vegetarian. :-) Not the healthy kind obviously and it never occurred to me I could live without dairy. Especially cheeses.
