Weight & Obesity 1 year ago Just finished wk. 2 of prep. I’m so happy with my results . Short version is I’m down from a 1st day fasting bg of 162 to 113 this morning. My daily tests PP are dropping frequently into the 90’s. I’m also down 8 lbs. I have not been uncomfortably hungry nor have I had ANY cravings. We even had a family birthday celebration out with no problems for me. My arthritis is noticeably better. I don’t want a morning nap anymore and I have noticeably more energy than what I normally live with. I know I have a long ways to go and I know I have a monumental challenge with my weight alone. The statistical ratios we track are extremely high for me but they are down a smidge. I guess my point is this will have to be a lifestyle change that stays with me forever. Thanks for all the help and support and for those just starting … it has it all and it’s worth the effort.

sounds like you are headed in the right direction already. I too feel like it has been worth the effort. I feel so much better it is like night and day. we have to remember, we didn’t get where we are in a short period of time and so we have to realize we won’t get where we want to be in a short period of time either. keep up the good work
Thank you Polly. Yes, you are right we don’t get to fix these things overnight. Staying on track and truly changing my lifestyle is what will make this a success.
Isn’t it a miracale, Barb?? That was my experience too – the disappearance of the little voice suggesting what I could eat next – the cravings. I didn’t lose so much weight so quickly, but feeling better was well worth the changes.
Oh yes, definitely a miracle, Arlene. Thanks for the reply.
Hi, Barb,
I have at least 80 pounds to lose, so maybe we can be cheerleaders for one another. I am so happy for you and how great you are feeling. I don’t know about you, but I am actually looking forward to what the future holds. If we can feel so much better after two official weeks on plan (plus preparation), I can’t wait to see how much better it will feel in the weeks and months ahead.
Hey, thanks. I can always use some extra cheering and I would be happy to cheer for you too. I think you’re doing great from the posts I’ve read. Where are you in this BSS program? It’s hard to tell but it sounds like you have some experience. I’m on my 2nd day of the 1st week of the 6 wk. program. I’ve come to think of this as the confusion and chaos phase for me at least. I’m learning more each day though. My chicken was undercooked tonight and then overcooked by the time I got through so I have had my first meal that was not really delicious. Oh well, probably won’t be the last. The salad and asparagus was really good so that helped.
I just began my third official week, with three whole weeks before that of preparation trying to gear myself for not having coffee. I used to say my coffee with half & half was non-negotiable. Funny, but when we really have to make good changes, we can. I like how you describe your first week. It gets so much easier. This is an opportunity to treat yourself in ways that are a departure from the past. I used to hate spending money on expensively-priced fruits or vegetables, but never hesitated to spend on ingredients to make delicious desserts. Weird, I know. Now, instead of spending on sugar (or coffee!!!), I look for great seafood and new recipes for chicken. As I said yesterday in another post, I made a fish stew with a saffron/tomato broth base, and I used large, beautiful scallops as one of the ingredients. I never made that soup before. I can make soups out of anything and make them delicious, but boulliabase was something I had never tried. Turns out, I found my new favorite way to have seafood and soups help stretch the food budget, so it was a winner all around. So, think of foods you can have and perhaps never tried before. It won’t be long until you hit your stride and begin enjoying the dietary plan. It doesn’t have to be bland, boring salads and proteins. Indian spices(curry, coriander, cardamom) can jazz up something as simple as egg salad(made with spicy brown mustard). I use cumin, cilantro, and chili powder and jalapenos in salmon salad and it is low-cal and great tasting. Spices can really make a difference. So, now is the time to experiment and try everything new! By the way, I bought my spices from bulk containers at the grocers this past weekend and saved loads of money. With the exception of cardamon, which was over 3 times the cost of other spices I bought, I spent less than a dollar for each spice and had enough to fill up my spice jars-green, too!
I added some spices to my small collection. Also bought them in bulk — cardamon, curry, an all purpose w/onion/garlic/basil, dill weed, and one more I can’t remember. I have a brand new Natural Grocer store very close to my neighborhood. It’s our first for good organic produce and a huge variety of other organic foods. I’m going to try and add a few spices each week as I learn more recipes and suggestions from this group. I too loved baking and had learned with my diabetes to make some very good deserts that were sweetened with natural sweeteners and used almond flour, coconut oil, etc. etc. Cheesecake comes to mind. It will be nice if I get to add some of those back in down the road and not in excess. Lots of dairy though so it’s doubtful. I don’t miss them now so I’m okay if they never darken my door again.
