Diabesity / Diabetes 1 day, 2 hours agoHappy Tuesday Everyone – This is going to sounds silly to some of you but I have been noticing bones lately that I haven’t seen or felt for years as my % fat decreases. The scale is still telling me 139 but should be inching downwards soon since I’ve been at that weight for over 5/8. I had to go buy a new pair of sandals this week because I kept…[Read more]

Diabesity / Diabetes 5 days, 22 hours agoI just got my xray results back and I have Extensive calcific tendinitis. I googled this and found out it could be caused by diabetes. I have had diabetes for 15 years and I have read that this is when effects of diabetes can occur. Dam, why me? One thing the article said to do was to eliminate a calcium from my diet and that some nuts have…[Read more]

Google foods high in calcium…of course milk and cheese are the first things that come to mind. I suspect that this can be reversed over time with the proper diet. You will find as you follow this way of eating that you just keep getting healthier and healthier. Don’t get discouraged. Nicole

Thanks Nicole,
I am already feeling so much better on this food plan. The pain I have been in all week was what made me so discouraged. I’m feeling better today. Resting my shoulder and taking NSADs are really working. Wish your body didn’t wear out.

I had already been eating pretty healthy when I started BSS plan in July 2012. My roughest week was between week 2 and 3. What was new to my eating plan wss the elimination of dairy and gluten. between weeks 2-3 my blood sugars literally plummeted and every day I had to reduce my insulin dosage. My blood pressure also decreased and I got off of…[Read more]

Hi Dawna, It might be healthier for you to change the way you eat. Addressing the symptom rather than the underlying problem of diabetes might be disappointing.
If you do not want to use almond milk then you can use coconut milk. It is good to get info from the internet, but be cautious about thinking one article is the final word. Did your doctor…[Read more] -

Thank you for your thoughts. You are right I will ask my doctor next week when I see him if I should restrict my calcium.

Diabesity / Diabetes 6 days, 2 hours agoHappy thursday Everyone- eating out is always a challenge for people trying to lose weight. Especially when you go to a place like Outback steak house with their famous blooming onion and bread at the table. When I got home from my afternoon appointment yesterday my husband announced that he had to have some blooming onion. So off we went…I was…[Read more]

Diabesity / Diabetes 6 days, 12 hours agoJust went to the doctor and my blood pressure is in the normal range. I’m so happy I don’t need high blood pressure medicine any more. Still having trouble with my fasting blood sugars being too high. Anybody have suggestions on how to lower them when they go up over night?
-
Nicole replied 6 days, 2 hours ago
Hi Dawna – Have you read about the dawning effect…your body increases your blood sugar over night around 2:00 am in the morning ..this is part of your bodies “wake up” routine. You might want to check our blood sugar in the evening , around 1:00 am and then when you get up a few times. So many things effect it..if you suffer from obstructive…[Read more]

Thanks Nicole for all the information. I didn’t know some of this stuff. I have been loosing a pound a week and am now 172. Hoping the weight loss will lower my fasting blood sugar. My doctor is putting me on Glucophage XL to see if that will make a difference. I think it is time to do more walking like you suggest. Again, thanks for all…[Read more]

Sorry to hear you are getting put on Glucophage but this doesn’t necessarily need to be foreever. If you cut your carbs back and normalize your blood sugar ( get your fasting blood sugar down to in the 80′s – your doctor will take you off diabetes medications. You need to really pay attention and become well versed in what different foods and…[Read more]

Welcome, Debra. Do read the Blood Sugar Solution book (I read it a couple of times cover to cover as I started to incorporate the concepts into my life) and be sure to do the 2 week prep phase. It really sets the stage for success. Almost a year into the program, I’m still reading the book and finding nuggets of info I missed. This site is an…[Read more]

Diabesity / Diabetes 1 week, 1 day agoHappy Tuesday Everybody….we all have “bad” days every now and then emotionally where we get stressed out to the point where we just want to eat everything in sight. We do all have bad days. I’m glad you’ve taken such a positive outlook on it. I like to say that since this is a ”plan for life”, we had better ”plan” on being prepared to go off-plan once in a while!

Thanks for sharing Nicole. You are right, the important part is that you over ate on plan. I really do admire how much will power you have to stay on your restricted plan for almost one year now!

Diabesity / Diabetes 1 week, 5 days agoi have been on the advanced plan for 10 weeks, I had an A1C of 6.3 and started the plan to reverse prediabetes and weight loss.

Hi cs,
everyone is different. So it will take others a shorter or longer time than yourself. I have been on the BSS plan for over one year and have seen little or no difference in my cholesterol numbers. Hi Celeste, I am sure your doctor will be pleased with the lower weight! You could check your blood sugar levels after eating beans to see what happens. But if I was you I would start with introducing quinoa, then maybe garbanzo beans. For some people garbanzo beans do not act like other beans. It is great that you are going to the…[Read more]

First of all congratulations on the 31 lbs lost that is great. Fasting blood sugars are a funny thing to track.Since I am on insulin I check mine first thing in the am and before I go to bed and other times during the day . Thank you Nicole. I am borrowing a glucometer from a friend and I will track my sugar as you suggest. I definitely need to drink more water, but it causes serious issues when I go anywhere. I know where every restroom in town is located, haha. I also need to add more exercise to my routine. Thank you for all your input.

Nicole replied 1 week, 4 days ago
Another time you will want to measure is 2 hours after your meal…you should be back down at least under 140 by the two hour mark – if not you need to lower your carb intake for meals.

CS, everyone is different. I am almost finished with my 6th week and have only lost 10 lbs. My fasting blood sugar went from 140-150 range down to 92-110. It mostly stays close to 110. Thanks SassaRosey: I have had WONDERFUL BLOOD PRESSURES! I FORGOT TO MENTION THIS VERY IMPORTANT CHANGE. I’m hoping to be able to lower my medications or better yet, stop them at my appt on Tuesday. It takes 3 months for your red blood cells to be completely replaced but it is not linear ( not 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 each month ) Many are replaced in the first month. That being said most health plans don’t pay for A1C more often than every three months. you doctor may draw blood to check on kidney function. Make sure you take the handout under my…[Read more]

Your post is, as usual, right on target for me. Came back from my long weekend away and only lost 1 pound. Ate everything right although I did not get the 2 snacks in for 4 days. Glad I did not gain a pound! Nicole…keep writing you provide such inspiration for me and others. Thank you, Rusty
Rusty- in my book the snacks are not mandatory – if you are no hungry between meals don’t have a snack…just make sure though that you are drinking enough water. You won’t lose weight if you are dehydrated. I eat one of my snacks before my evening pills usually some sort of protein so that the pills are not taken on an empty stomach. My other…[Read more]
