Migraine & Headaches 1 year, 2 months ago I’ve had a migraine off and on for the past four days. Unfortunately, I can’t take migraine meds because of other meds I’m on. I’m wondering if anyone has anything that has worked for them? My husband is coming home this afternoon to look after our daughter so I can just lie down in the dark, but obviously that won’t work full-time. And, I’ve gone back to drinking coffee as that seems to help in the short run, which I feel like I need to take care of my child when she’s home from school, but obviously it’s not good in the long run. I also drink green tea, which can help as well. Thanks you guys for any thoughts, suggestions!

The tea (and coffee) are classic migraine relievers, and truthfully if a cup of strong green tea relieves your pain, that seems perfectly reasonable. Dairy is an equally classic migraine trigger – did you eliminate it as you began the program?
I use magnesium supplements with excellent effect for muscle pain and headaches. Too much can cause diarrhea ( Dr. H. talks about this in the supplement section of the book and site) but there are versions that are better tolerated than others.
It is an effective muscle relaxant, and seems to work on the smooth muscle spasms that are part of migraine pain. Check with your physician if there is any chance you are pregnant.
Then there is the acupressure point found in the pad of the hand between the thumb and forefinger. You may find it is tender when you are experiencing the pre-headache aura and/or during the actual migraine event. By pinching that pad on the tender spot and gently massaging with the thumb and forefinger of the opposite hand (mine is always in the right hand, but I generally massage both spots) you may find relief. Some folks recommend finding the tender spot and pinch/hold/release/repeat until the hand tenderness begins to release. This works for me if I catch it early.
Good luck to you…
Elaine, Thanks for the info! When you mentioned dairy, I thought well of course I gave up dairy (for almond milk) but then I remembered the milk chocolate my daughter got for Easter, and that I tried a sample of, and a pizza we had, which broke all the rules, and a cheeseburger. I had been doing well on the eating front until about a week ago, and I’m treating it as a learning experience; these things really do make a difference. I do remember Mark’s comments about magnesium and luckily had some in my cabinet, so I’m trying that as well as the acupressure point. Hopefully getting back on track will help. I may also try his Ultrabath to release some toxins. Take care, and I hope no migraines are in your future. C.
