Weight & Obesity 1 year ago just wondering something. i haven’t started yet- but am looking around a bit for things. i found a coconut bar. the ingredients say ”coconut 59%, rice syrup 37%, mango 4%”
are these any good?

I don’t think so. The rice syrup is a sweetner and I’m pretty sure it isn’t allowed.
Too much sugar. Dr. Hyman says in the book to cut out all sugar. ”Just do it” in his words. I’m a sugar addict. I know how hard it is to stop. I want off the insulin. My MD says my pancreas is still working. I’m going to give it my all. Good luck.
Most of the ”bars” and prepackaged foods are just not going to work. Either they will have gluten, or sugar (like rice syrup) or an artificial sweetener (just as bad). This is why the prep weeks talk so much about learning to cook. If you cook something with organic veggies and good quality meats, it’s just going to be better for you.
Even on the Atkins diet, the ”Atkins bars” aren’t really on the diet when you read the ingredients. It’s just a sad fact of the food industry.
okay, thanks everyone. i am assuming that plain unsweetened coconut is okay though? i am trying to focus on what i CAN rather than what i CAN’T.
I know coconut oil & coconut cream are OK, so off hand I don’t know why it wouldn’t be.
You can look them up on nutritiondata.com and check the glycemic load and compare it to the oils (fyi, coconut oil is Glycemic Load 0, and Coconut is 1) a lower number is always better, but 1 seems pretty low. I’m guessing if you have just a tiny bit, it’s okay.
