Weight & Obesity 1 year ago Hey, any Canadians here? i am struggling a bit about where to buy some things i need. for example, i just used salsa in my chili because the tomato sauce had corn syrup in it. ?? so i’m just looking for ideas (Canadian) on where to shop!! it’s also a bit trickier because i live in a small town, and only head in to the big city every couple weeks. oh well. day 3 has been harder only cause my kids had slurpees and i’m pretty sure i could have killed someone to have one!!!

It’s amazing how many foods have sugar in them…it takes a lot of diligent reading of labels to find a product without some form of sugar in it or dairy. It is well worth the effort. I live in a small town also so what I do is stock up when I go to the city. You’ll soon learn which brands are okay & which to stay away from.
Agreed. It’s a lot of hard work at first, but once you find some good brands, it’s a heck of a lot easier. Sorry I can’t help you with the Canadian products. Hopefully someone will post soon.
I’m in Quebec. Most of the major chains here – Metro. Loblaws,Provigo, etc have ” health food sections”. If you read the labels carefully, you can find canned and processed foods without or with very minimal crap in them. If not, check the yellow pages for health food stores and again, read those labels carefully. You could stock up on basics whne you hit the bigger cities.
Major branks like Silk and Eden and Amy’s are usually available.
I usually end up making my own tomato sauce or whatever to avoid the additives. Most things are pretty easy to make yourself and with warmer weather coming on farmer’s stand and markets will be overflowing.
Not sure I am helping but I hope so.
