Diabesity / Diabetes 2 months, 1 week agoI have Type 2 diabetes and finally went to an endocrinologist. She felt that I’d been diagnosed so young (32) that it was possible I actually have Type 1. The labs got back today, and next to the results for Glutamic Acid Decarb Antibody, she wrote, “you do have type 1 diabetes–will start mealtime insulin next visit.” I’m totally confused.…[Read more]

Diabesity / Diabetes 9 months, 3 weeks agoIs anyone here under 40? I started with a dietitian last week who specializes in diabetes. She said, “You’re awfully young to have diabetes.” I was like, um yeah, I’ve heard that one, thanks. Could she have really been that surprised? I mean there’s gotta be others like me… I know age doesn’t matter in how we are all supporting each other…[Read more]

Diabesity / Diabetes 9 months, 3 weeks agoJust got my A1c results after 3 months of the BSS– 7.1! When I started it was 12! I would say that’s a pretty big accomplishment. I haven’t begun an exercise routine yet, because whenever I work out my chronic hives get way worse. So if I start with mild walks, the hives should be fine and I can hopefully get off the rest of the medication…[Read more]

Congratulation. What a dramatic difference on your A1C. Start with 5 minute or 10 minute walk and ad a little more time as you feel better. three months with your new lifestyle that’s really something to be proud about too. I’m at day 7 of week 4 today.

Diabesity / Diabetes 11 months agoFriday June 29th I’ll have completed 9 weeks of the Blood Sugar Solution. Then on July 3rd I get my bloodwork done for the first time since I began. Based on my glucose readings these days (90-120), I’m not expecting my A1c to read at a non-diabetic level. They are not totally down to what they should be but they are very close. Congratulations on your results thus far. I know you’ll succeed in reaching your weight and medical goals by following the BSS, because you “want to do this more than I’ve wanted anything else”. Hi, Tasha,
First of all, congratulations on the weight loss and for sticking with it for 7 weeks. That is a huge accomplishment. Seems to me maybe you are just getting bored with the same old foods? Try not to let your food choices become boring by trying new things all the time. It really helps. The best thing I did for myself was to…[Read more]-

Hi – I cant add much here as Quentin and janine both were so spot on with their replies. Our bodies sometimes need a break to adjust to the changes, but you will also find that on those weeks when you fear you might not be losing weight, you are able to see measurable changes in other ways, like in your waist measurement. The scale seems to enjoy teasing us. Hang in there. You are doing great!
-
hearttash replied 11 months, 2 weeks ago
Like Janine mentioned, the changes come out in varying ways. Don’t get hung up on the scale! I keep reminding myself that this is not a weight loss plan, it is a diabetes reversal plan. Weight loss is ONE of the great outcomes. Keep it up! -tasha

Diet & Nutrition 1 year agoI can’t remember again–why do we have to eat raw almonds and cashews (and any nuts) vs roasted?
-
cwright replied 1 year ago
i think we can have them roasted…as there is a recipe in the book for roasting them. however, maybe somebody knows better than me. i just bought roasted…so i’m going to eat them.
-
Diane replied 12 months ago
Raw nuts have all of their enzymes intact. Roasting destroys the enzymes. Thjose enzymes are beneficial to our health. Soaking nuts for several hours in cool water will also make nuts more digestible.
-
-
hearttash replied 1 year ago
From livestrong.com: ”In the roasting process, however, almonds may lose up to 15 percent of their own healthy oils, according to Dr. Mehmet Oz, and chemicals that promote aging may be formed at high temperatures. Thus, in terms of retaining all of the naturally-found beneficial fat, raw almonds are more desirable.”
-
hearttash replied 1 year ago
But that’s the only difference btwn the two.
-
hawaiiBarbara replied 1 year ago
What they aren’t telling you is that all almonds grown in the US are now pasteurized, and hence, not truly raw. The organic ones go through a process that isn’t desirable either. The only way to get truly raw almonds are directly at a farm stand for that farm or to buy imported raw almonds. I researched it and found some websites where I could…[Read more]

When I’m tempted by a ”no-no food” I refocus on my long-term goal – ridding myself of diabetes for good. I ask myself – will eating this food get me any closer to my goal? If the answer is ”no” – I avoid it. Ultimately we are the only ones who have power over what we eat. Exercise your power and believe in yourself. You can do this.

Hi, I am wondering, why do you need more calories?
If you add a high quality olive oil (polyphenols over 200) to your food that will help. I like at least 2 tbs of olive oil a day. You can have more if you want. Also, nuts and seeds (tahini – almond butter) are calorie dense.
i would let the calorie count go for a couple of weeks and see what…[Read more]-

Thanks Margaret. I’m tracking my food on a website so it just automatically adds up the calories…I find it helpful to do track my food. Maybe it’s just a shock that I’m eating like 1500 calories less a day than I was. Not exagerating.

Margaret Foster replied 1 year ago
That is an interesting way to track your food intake! In the Blood Sugar Solution book it mentions that not all calories are created equal (paraphrasing). So Maybe whole food calories help more than processed food calories. Just a thought. Margaret
