Very true but I am a Hospice Nurse (it is a calling); so many hands to hold and so many good byes to say. It is very hard to take a day off when so many are relying on you. My company makes sure we have plenty of time off to relieve our stress but some days are really hard. I see the results of what happens when people don’t take care of themselves.

Thanks to all for your support. Yesterday truly sucked but I am blessed with love, family and friends and oh yes, dancing is my passion. I ended up taking a hot shower and remembered I had some vegan chili in the freezer so I had that with jalapeno peppers. Hot stuff! Got on the scale this am and finally made it to the 20 pound mark. So truckin…[Read more]

Week 5 and having a very bad day work and life. It is so tempting to go off the diet when you’ve had a miserable day. I don’t even want to go into the kitchen for fear that I will weaken. Once I start I am afraid the flood gates will open. 19 lbs in 5 weeks and FBS within normal limits. I have been a diabetic for 40 years so it is very…[Read more]

Sorry for your day. Venting is good. It’s what gets up to that place where we can look back on things and realize there are always worse things than this. I hope you hang on to the strength you’ve built and the wonderful results. I would love 19 lbs. at 5 wks. FBS is always a challenge for me but I’ll get there too. Take care and remember…[Read more]

I wish you well. My partner is a Homeopath but unfortunately she has not found a remedy to alleviate the suffering we go through as diabetics. I have found the longer I resist ”white food” the easier it becomes to not be tempted. I tell myself ”there will be other eating opportunities I can leave this”. It works for now.

Yes, you can but under close MD supervision. If you have type 2 diabetes. I was able to get off the insulin and am now taking an oral hypoglycemic. I am hoping some day to be off that as well. Still poking my fingers several times a day to keep track of my blood sugars and how what I eat is affecting my blood sugar. Trying to get it down to a…[Read more]

The good news is I lost 13 pounds in 2 weeks. I really have no expectations of a huge weight loss but will take what I can get. Once your past 50 it becomes very difficult to lose weight so I will be happy with health.

Warning or a tip depending on your point of view. Kale is very effective in treating constipation…just an fyi. It is mild and tasty I add it to many of my recipies.

White bean chili is another favorite of mine. Skinless boneless chicken breast sauteed in Olive Oil, take it out and set aside. Sautee diced onions and garlic add chicken broth and cannellini or navy beans, diced anaheim chilis (they are not hot but have good flavor).. Season with a teaspoon of cumin, 1/2 tsp of oregano, red pepper flakes if you…[Read more]

I’ve been on the BSS diet for 2 weeks. Tomorrow I go to my doc and get on the scale. My home scale shows I lost 8 pounds. The good news is I’m off insulin-that stuff makes me hungry all the time and packs on the wieght. I’m trying to keep in mind that weight loss (even though I am fat) is not the goal, health is!

    • Hi Dancer,
Nice post. Great weight loss. Your health sounds like it is already improving. Let use know how things continue for you.

    • I use a whey protein powder with almond milk and blueberries most often.I often add chia or flax seed. You could add almost any soft fruit to it in any combination. Some people put spinach or other greens in their shakes, but my hand blender doesn’t do well with greens, so that is something I don’t do.

I make a large batch of chili with kidney, pinto, and black beans. Add some diced roma tomatoes and protein; I use textured vegetable crumbles but you could use hamburger or ground turkey. Have som chicken so tomorrow when my hubbie comes back with his father, surprise healthy lunch :D thanks a lot!!!

      • Laura, I forgot Spain has the best almonds in the world. They are a luxury if imported to USA but perhaps they are more reasonable in Spain. Wild mushrooms are fantastic. If you can stay with what is available, making sure you have greens and cabbage you will do very well on this program.

    • I used to experience the same thing. What I found is sticking to the serving size suggestions is very important. Starting with the fiber supplement 15 to 20 minutes before the meal and keeping to 1/2 cup of the legumes and no more than 20 or a handful of nuts is key. The program notes too much of either can have the opposite effects than the…[Read more]
