It took me weeks to wean myself off coffee and I did it step-by-step. First to just one cup, then to half and half decaf, etc. Now, in the mornings I have a spicy decaf tea and sometimes put almond milk in it–which is actually very good. After freeing myself from the caffeine, I was tired for another couple of weeks, but now that has passed. …[Read more]

    HI Pamela,
Thank you so much for posting this. It seems that most people who post, like me, are new to the Plan. So of course, we get these good results early on. So what happens when you are on for a longer time? That is what I would like to find out. For you there is now a three week plateau . . . . What about all you others?

Did any of you get headaches when you went off gluten. It feels a little like when I went off coffee, but not as bad. I am in Week Two and still tired, but less so.

    HI, Barb,
I took almost three weeks to wean myself off of coffee. Now, I am happy with one cup of green tea, and even that I will soon switch to decaf. Still, I have had some minor headache which is probably other kinds of detox going on. Going off caffeine too fast can really result in excruciating and debilitating headache. Good luck.

Hey Donna, thanks for your post. Yes, I’m getting some good advice on this topic. I love coffee but I think I’ll make it. Headache is not quite as bad today. I bought some green tea today and will have a cup later. I think your right about other kinds of detox going on. I sure ate a lot of processed foods and substitute sugar. I knew…[Read more]

Day One of Week Two here. I am down 2 pounds and my BG is lower and more stable after meals. This is good. Social occasions are the hardest, and indeed, I have allowed myself some leeway. I am being most strict about staying way from gluten. At a picnic on Saturday, I had my hamburger wrapped in lots of lettuce, and no ketchup. I never cook…[Read more]

I have not yet bought any supplements from the Plan site. I have compared what Hyman recommends on the Basic Plan to what I already do, and it is very close. Also, I have some others that I take–considering that I have a heart problem which is artial fibrillation. I take nattkinase and CoQ. I plan to figure out what I am already spending and…[Read more]

I am not on any medication for diabetes II and have been controlling my blood sugar (more or less) with diet. My doctor says I would no longer be diagnosed as my A1C is below 6 and my lab fasting glucose tests are OK. But the truth is that my blood sugar was spiking way too high. And–I have been having other problems as well–thyroid, heart,…[Read more]

Hi Donna, I understand. The numbers don’t really reveal what’s usually happening to us. I have this image that my diabetes will always loom in the shadows but I won’t have to worry about it or its impacts if I learn to live the lifestyle offered through this program. It’s a bonus that the other problems like your thyroid, heart, fatigue (I…[Read more]

    • How great that you are beginning these changes at a time that your A1C number is so good. I used to think that this was all that was necessary until I ready Dr. Hyman’s books and some other books out there and now I realize how important the lifestyle changes are for the quality of our lives for the decades to come.

Yes, I have heard this too. I do avoid soy. But it is confusing to me as well. Is there someone here who can speak to this? I do not totally stay away from it. I will have tofu once in a while, or edamane or soy nuts–but not as a regular food or a ”health food”.
