    • Emily – are you on the basic or advanced plan? Do you take insulin? Are you drinking 1/2 your weight in ounces of water? Are you watching your portion sizes? How much weight do you have that you won’t to lose? there are so many things that effect our ability o lose weight. stress being a buggy. • Nicole, you have some great ideas. Just had to give kudos to you. Thanks!

    • Sometimes you can lose inches without losing pounds. Are your clothes fitting any looser? Do you have more energy yet?
If you’re true to the plan (no hidden sugar in salad dressing, etc.) you’ll see results!

      • Hi Barbara- I agree with NOT going up being a victory in itself. Well the scale went down 1/2 pound this morning. 6 days at the same weight before that glimmer of hope! But extended plateaus are the norm for me. My husband went to see his primary care physician yesterday and got to brag about his weight loss eating my BSS meals supplemented with…[Read more]

    • Hi, Emily,
One of my best tools in this health journey has been my kitchen scale. I weigh everything! Knowing how much I should be eating according to the weight of the foods makes calculating calories and eating right so much easier for me. There are some great electronic scales out there that I would be very easy to use.
      Kudos to Nicole for…[Read more]

      • This was helpful to read. I’m new at this—just began yesterday—and weighing food hasn’t even ocurred to me. I’m just trying to stick to the correct foods. Once I’m more comfortable with the foods, I’ll weigh and measure portions. Thanks!

I am having a hard time today so i thought Id reach out to the community. This is my second week and i am having really strong cravings for caffeine and carbs. I havent given in, which i am really proud of especially there are treats in our work kitchen. Anyone else dealing with similar feelings during their six weeks? Hope do you cope with at work?

    • Hi, Emily
I recommend Twinings Jasmine Green tea for those times when you want a cup of coffee. It is hot and takes pretty good. Stay out of the work place kitchen until you have been at it for a few weeks more, and then you won’t be nearly as tempted as you might be in the beginning. Don’t let yourself get hungry between meals and always…[Read more]

    • Hi Emily- it will get easier. I can now enjoy the smell of things like my husbands coffee brewing in the morning without craving some of it myself. I think the trik is having healthy snacks on hand. for me it is nuts. Almonds pecans or cashews. Just 3-4 at a time gets me off the focus of having something I know I shouldn’t have. Also herbal tea.…[Read more]

    • Hi Emily, Good work, reaching out to the community for inspiration and moral support. We have all been through these times. I agree with Nicole, always have healthy alternatives with you. Celery sticks with almond butter or hummus. Almonds or even a very small piece of extra dark chocolate can help. Olives and pickles helped me one week.

Hi everyone, I am having a hard time with lunches and what to pack/go out for. I am getting sick of salads and stir fry. Do you have other quick but fulfilling lunches to have at work?

    • Chicken is good cold or hot. You can cook salmon ahead of time and have it cold, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers with either olive oil or hummus, there are so many choices especially if you are on the basic plan and can have a variety of fruits. Nuts, nut butters on jicama or celery. Just about every dish I make that is hot You could call a stir…[Read more]

    • For a take-along lunch, I like salmon salad or mixed bean salad or scrambled egg-type things made up as lettuce wraps. Lettuce leaves (bibb works well, so does romaine) go in one container, “fixin’s” in another container, for assembly later. Another alternative: hummus and fresh veggies. Yet another: Trader Joe’s makes some delicious canned…[Read more]

Do use…[Read more]

For SALMON SALAD: 1 6-oz. can wild-caught salmon in water (or leftover salmon cooked from fresh) + veganaise or homemade mayo (just enough to moisten) + chopped onion + chopped celery, and sometimes a few capers.

For BEAN SALAD: 3 different kinds of beans (I like edamame + white cannelini beans + black beans, the latter two usually…[Read more]

    • Hi, Emily,
If you haven’t tried the vegetarian chili recipe in the book, it is great. I add finely chopped black olives to my batch and only one can black beans, but beyond that, my recipe is basically the same. The addition of quinoa gives the chili a lovely texture I can’t seem to get enough of.
Today, I cooked some chicken tenders before…[Read more]
