Diabesity / Diabetes 1 year ago I’m having a rough time with all the raw veggies and nuts. They really upset my gut and very difficult to digest. My plan is to eat less more often and see how that goes. I’m wondering if anybody has any suggestion for snacks other than nuts. I’m on the advanced plan. While writing this I did come up with one idea. I’m going to start using digestive enzymes. Any other suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks

Here are some things that are working for me, maybe they will help you too. For snacks, I eat a few ounces of turkey breast (I buy this in the deli section of the grocery, but I only buy the ”real” turkey breast that has no additives, etc), olives, a small salad of marinated vegetables (I’ve used hearts of palm and artichoke hearts, they are soft and do not cause me any digestive issues); homemade guacamole, and I’ve made mashed cauliflower” that I sometimes warm up as a snack. I also have found that drinking water is important on this plan, and it has helped my stomach. I hope this helps you a bit.
Sometimes the raw veggies, etc. catch up with me too. I have made a couple of batches of the blueberry muffins Margaret Foster posted on this board. They are really good. Makes for a good snack and even though they are made with almond meal it’s a small amount per muffin. I also enjoy having some of my alloted berries for the day. It’s not much since I’m on the advanced plan. You could make a little egg salad with mustard and olives, etc. Good luck – barb wk2 dy1
Although I have been fortunate to be able to handle salads and nuts, I do use enzymes and I’m sure that helps. A friend of mine finds that she just doesn’t feel very well eating raw foods and do she chooses cooked foods–soups and cooked vegetable dishes. There’s no requirement at all that we eat salads or nuts, as I see it. Sometimes I will use a little turkey or other deli meat–if it seems reasonably health (I avoid nitrites etc.) & I don’t even mind canned fish-. I bring a portion of a leftover vegetable sometimes to work or soup. My big challenge is finding time to eat it as my work load is heavy and there are people asking to see me constantly (I work as a service coordinator with the elderly and with people with disabilities). I am really having to work much harder at taking care of myself–the walking, drinking water and taking some reasonable work breaks to breathe or get up and move around. I am far from being where I want to be with these things.
I have discovered that frozen blackberries make a great snack. They have to be eaten slowly, for obvious reasons, and the tiny parts of the blackberries melt and some apart so it isn’t like eating a huge ice cube. I live in a hot, humid area, and these frozen berries are going to be my ”popsicle” in the coming summer monts. 4 ounces on the advanced plan is all you need.
