The chocolate flavor has evaporated cane juice as an ingredient (10 grams sugar), so I would say ”no”. The vanilla flavor has stevia as an ingredient, so I would say ”no” for the first 6 weeks of the plan; however, you could probably use the Pur Lean shake with stevia after being on advanced for 6 weeks. Just be sure to monitor to make sure it doesn’t cause cravings.
Be careful with anything that has ”artificial sweeteners” — even if they’re ”all natural”, like Stevia. Keep intake limited, or, better, nil. They are addictive and are likely to make you hungry instead of keep you full. I’ve mentioned my experience with them several times, but I had already given up bread and sugars, and artificial sweeteners, singlehandedly, were blocking my weight loss.
I agree you need to be very careful when adding back any sweetener, even stevia, into your daily food intake. Prior to being on the BSS, I was using stevia frequently and went ”cold turkey” for the first 3 months of being on advanced. When I began the personalization phase, I added back only a select few food items which included 1 cup of coffee with a drop of stevia daily. After 4 months I added back apples, in addition to the berries, and recently added back grapefruit, which I also sprinkle with a little stevia. This very limited use of stevia has not created any cravings for me. However, I monitor myself very closely and if it ever creates a food craving, I will eliminate it completely. The key to being successful on the BSS is to stick with the plan as specified exactly in the book for a minimum of 6 weeks and longer if you need to continue losing weight. It’s extremely important to be very careful, as nikwdhmos points out, if you add back any sweetener; and if you can avoid it completely, then do! And…be extremely careful when you begin the personalization phase and add back any additional foods. I’ve been on advanced (with very few additions) for 228 days.I have also successfully avoided eating any off plan foods at all social engagements attended over the past 7 months (at least 15).
Thanks. I guess as he says in the book, if you have to ask, you can’t. I’m 10 days into the advanced plan. Lost 5lbs in first 5 days and not budging an ounce now. But do feel great. Seems to be when I started eating tomatoes. Will have to skip them and see.
I use Lifetime Life’s Basics Plant Protein Unsweetened, Vanilla for my protein shakes. It is a plant protein powder and has no sweetener. You can see the exact ingredients if you look it up on Vitacost.com; however, Amazon.com has the best price.
