Diabesity / Diabetes 10 months ago I haven’t started yet. However, I have read over the eating plan and found that the doctor encourages the use of protein powders. I have used them in the past, all different kinds, and they always seem to make me nauseaous. Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

Augusta, it depends on the protein powder. So many of them contain ingredients that would be considered MSG, or that produce free glutamate which some people are sensitive to and in my opinion, should be avoided altogether. MSG has hidden sources and about 25 different names for this complex additive that is widely used in all kinds of foods. You can visit the MSGTRUTH.ORG web site to get more information about it is you are concerned. Some I have identified that made me sick were :Whey (a large percentage of what manufacturers call Whey is actually a glutamate enhancer) Maltodextrin, malted barley, barley malt, Molasses, gelatin, the list goes on. This might be something to consider when using a protein powder.
No I haven’t but I was hoping this was more about eating right then medications I just started reading it to
Nice to meet u
Hi, Augusta,
I make my morning smoothies with unsweetened almond milk, milled flax seeds, raw almonds, and 4 ounces of fruit. Never tried or used the protein powders, since I didn’t want that expense. The almond milk smoothies are great and I think those might work for you. Best of luck.
Hi, I use hemp powder for a morning protein shake. You do not have to use any protein powder if you are eating animal protein. If you are a vegetarian there are only a few options because whey protein is a dairy product. Most of the protein on the market has sweeteners, so they are off the list.
