So,I was listening to the audio book and heard that eating 30% fewer calories can increase your life expectancy by 30%. I think if I eat less food, but nutrient dense food and maybe not as many calories as I have been eating I should lose weight, gain health and be headed in a good direction. Has anyone tried Braggs amino acids to get the amino…[Read more]

    • What you’re talking about is Calorie Restriction. You can do searches on it, but make sure you look at reputable sites, there’s lots of bad info out there.

CR is a tough road; you have to stay hungry all the time. I have a friend that does it. He is skinny as a rail, but I, personally, have no desire to do it — I don’t want to be hungry.

      • You have to eat enough nutrient dense foods to ward off the hunger. Dr. Joel Fuhrman addresses this extensively in his book Eat to Live.

    • I’d suggest you check out Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s newly revised book Eat to Live. Your local public library probably has it. Nutrient dense foods and lower caloric intake is addressed extensively in the book, which is well documented by medical research. You can also read the positive reviews (over 600) for this book on Amazon.com. Dr. Fuhrman also has…[Read more]

    • I like Braggs amino acids for the flavor. It is similar to Tamari or soy sauce.

    • You may find your appetite decreasing on the BSS plan. As your blood sugar levels out there are not so many hunger triggers. If I am hungry now I know I need to eat. But I am seldom hungry. And that is new to me. I was always hungry after 3-5 hours of not eating. As your appetite drops you just eat less calories.

      • That is what I found, I am not hungry like I used to be. It is like it happened all at once. One day it just hit me, Hey, I don’t feel hungry I know it sounds stupid but I was kind of surprised that I feel full with so much less food at meal time, I am satisfied and I don’t obsess over when and what I am going to eat next. Used to when I was…[Read more]

    Hi All,
I’m new to the ”Solution”. 51 years old. I want to be super functional for a long time so I’m starting now.
I’m eating so may vegies and beans and little or no animal products and little or no sugar. I need to commit myself to exercise. Any advice is more than appreciated! Thanks!

    • Have you read the Blood Sugar Solution book? Trying the plan to see what foods could cause problems for you is a great way to get clear on long term goals. Good luck, Margaret

    • Good luck. I’m leaving out the legumes, though, give me gas!

    • Water aerobics/exercise is a great place to start. Lots of aerobics and range of motion with no undo harmful strain and pain

    • I started out small. I walk around my house during commercial breaks as I watch tv, you can get about 300 steps in during an avg commercial break. So this has added 2000-4000 steps to my day. This seemed to help my stamina after so many years of being sedentary. Now I am incorporating in home walking DVDs by Lesley Sansone and doing free…[Read more]

Cleaning up my family’s diet. Sometimes it is a struggle. Sometimes I cannot think of or don’t want to think of the best thing for me to eat. My kids are pretty much on boeard. Hubby is another matter. We both need to lose weight!

    • Hi, You will be doing your children a wonderful service by introducing them to a processed food free life. As adults they can make their own choices and will be more likely to choose well if they have experienced whole food eating while growing up. You may have to augment your meal plans for additional foods for your husband.
      The real trick to…[Read more]
