Hormone Imbalances 1 year ago I’m wondering if I’ll ever be able to get off the hormone replacement therapy. I began it in 1994. I’m now age 66 and in spite of efforts to taper down two years ago, the hot flashes were ridiculous–sheet-soaking, sleep-depriving hot flashes. Will the new regimen help in time?

I’m not sure about this plan’s relationship to hot flashes, but I’ve definitely been there/done that with the HRT. I had an early (40) on-set menopause, took my estrogen for 12 years. An estrogen-positive breast tumor made me discontinue HRT. Here’s what I learned–the HRT just post-pones the symptoms. I went through the whole array of symptoms AGAIN . I say that I liked menopause so much, I did it twice! So whenever you stop the HRT you are likely to experience them once you stop. On the bright side, your body does adjust over time, so you get over it. I still miss my estrogen, but have certainly enjoyed the last ten years of living cancer free!
