    Hi everyone
I hope you won’t mind answering a question for me.
I have read several posts where some of you have said you have lowered or stopped your meds, even insulin in a fairly short time. Are you doing this based on your own glucose readings or are you going to your doctors or both?
I am reading the book and did the quizzes and need to be o the Advanced Plan. It looks pretty scary because it is sooo resticted. Were you all able to just jump into it from Day 1. And, so many supplements. Again, were you all able to tolerate taking all those pills (plus any meds) from the start? Appreciate any advice.
Congrats to all of you who are working this plan. One of my doctors actually reommended it so I really want to give it a go but it seems awfully scary.
    Be well.

    • Make sure you go through the prep weeks. It gives you time to wean yourself off things like caffiene and processed foods. When your start day comes around it will be a lot easier to jump in. I am on my last day of week 3. When i started i took my glucose reading in the mornings, before lunch, before dinner, and at bedtime. Once i saw all these #’s dropping and being in the normal range i stopped my insulin and continued to monitor closely. I have not had a shot in 2 weeks. As someone posted earlier you have to listen to your body and know the signs of low sugars. Good luck it really is easier than you can imagine.

I talked with my doc about what I was doing and how to decrease the meds I was on if I started dropping too low before I started. He was very supportive. I tested very regularly since I tended to swing a little hypo and whne that became a regular pattern, dropped one med entirely. I’m on Glucophage alone now twice a day and hope to reduce the number of mg’s or totally drop that drug over the next year. If your doc is suggesting this, fantastic!

I see my doc Monday and hope to hear some good results from the blood tests.

The advanced plan is very doable. Once you get prepped and started, you develop a pattern and then can play with it, try other things people are suggesting. I dond’t think of the BSS as restrictive so much as a blueprint for health that I am choosing, postiively. I don’t think of what I can’t have but what I am learning and experiencing and the health I am regaining.

Taking the supplements and your meds becomes second nature. There are people that re doing this without the supplements and partial supplements and others doing the whole kit and kaboodle depending on resources, availability etc. You do what you can do.

Go for it! Food is life.

    • Hi – I’m in week 8 and have done this program with my Dr. every step of the way. He and I decide together when it is time to lower a med dose based on my BG readings. So far I am 100% off one diabetes medication and 50% off another. I do not recommend that anyone do this without the support of their Dr. especially diabetics as so much can change so quickly. It did for me – BG dropping into the 40’s and nearly passing out a couple times. Luckily for me my Dr. has been very responsive and open to my going on this program.

    • I worked with my endocrinologist to adjust the medications and would recommend that you do the same. Definitely not a good idea to cut way back on carbs and keep taking the meds the same way, at least in my case. Work with a doctor who supports your goals!
