Recipes 8 hours, 36 minutes agoHello. I’m wondering if anyone has made the Moroccan Chicken with Cauliflower and Cashews (p. 142 BSS Cookbook). Is this supposed to be in the soup section? Or, was the 6 cups of low-sodium chicken broth a misprint?

Recipes 2 days, 3 hours agoI almost didn’t post this recipe because I cannot remember where I got it – it could even have come from this group as I was reading all of the old posts. I hate not to give appropriate credit, but I love this as a summer salad so much I had to share. Forgive the missing resource.
Shrimp and Avocado Salad ( makes 4 servings) . . .
1 Lb peeled,…[Read more] -

Recipes 4 days, 10 hours agoHi, I wanted to share a treat that I found in rural northern California. They are okra chips. Whole okra, tops and tips, dried. They may be vacuum fried but with no oiliness I think they are baked or dehydrated. This okra is very good and a great travel food. Unfortunately there was no ingredient list. So it was a repackaged item that the company…[Read more]

Recipes 1 week, 1 day agoI bought 100% cocoa chocolate instead of 70% . Are there any ideas for a recipe without sugar.
-
Nicole replied 1 week, 1 day ago
I use it in my morning ultra shake.
-
Margaret Foster replied 1 week ago
You can melt some of it in a a glass of hot almond milk and add a lot of spices, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, turmeric, cardamon, etc. Put in a tablespoon or more spices.

It is actually bakers chocolate. I’m thinking of dunking bananas in and freezing it. Wonder if it will work well.
-
Margaret Foster replied 6 days, 10 hours ago
Yes that will work, but you should thin the chocolate a bit.

Recipes 1 week, 3 days agoWe just started the UltraSimple Diet plan. Wondering if salads are an option or if all vegetables need to be steamed or sauteed? Seems like salads for lunch would be easier. Thanks for any assistance.

I am not on Ultra Simple Diet but from what I’ve learned Fresh vegetables are even better than steamed or sauteed. nicole

Recipes 1 week, 4 days agoI will be starting the advanced plan and am wondering what most of you eat for breakfast.
-
Margaret Foster replied 1 week, 4 days ago
Hi, Welcome to the site, Many people eat protein shakes for breakfast, I often eat a homemade veggie soup (thick like a stew) and an egg. Veggies and an egg are popular for breakfast. You can eat anything you would eat for lunch or dinner for breakfast.
Blessings, Margaret-

Thank you. I never thought of eating lunch or dinner items for breakfast, except when I was a college student eating cold pizza in the AM.

I too have an ultra shake each morning to start off my day with a few nuts on the side and a little fruit on the side. I did not add the ultra shake for the first few months but now find it convenience and the concept of a consistent nutritional value breakfast a real plus. I like routines and don’t get bored with it because I feel like I am…[Read more]

Also maybe wait a while to add protein shakes to your diet. Give time for your gut to heal a little bit and get used to your new diet. it is an adjustment for your system to get used to eating ’real” food . Nicole

Recipes 1 week, 4 days agoI have yet to find a protein powder that doesn’t make me bloat. Does anyone else have that problem and if so did you find one that works. So far I have tried whey, pea, hemp and I have to avoid soy.

barbara replied 1 week, 3 days ago
I would suggest egg white protein….. I have also tried soy, pea, hemp whey, all of which had downsides. The one I use is from Jay Robb and comes in Vanilla and Chocolate. I use one package of stevia (I use NuStevia made by GNC) a Tablespoon of Cocoa powder a cup of almond milk and 5 ice cubes. I sometimes add 1 tablespoon of Peanut Butter…[Read more]

It may not be the protein shake that is making you feel bloated but what you are adding to it. Keep it basic to begin with – maybe make it with unsweetened coconut , unsweetened almond milk or water. Get one with the least amount of carbs you can find. Some people use it as a meal supplement not a meal…which could cause the issues if that is…[Read more]

Hi TCN,
i want to mention that Stevia and all sweeteners are not ok when following the 6 week BSS plan. Finding protein supplements without sweeteners can be a problem. Stevia is not allowed because of how the body reacts to it. This is discussed in the BSS book. I use organic hemp protein powder. I started with very simple shakes using plain…[Read more]-

I love your idea of flavoring with vanilla etc… It is hard when you can only use such a small amount of berries. It will be interesting to see how my taste buds will change.

Recipes 1 week, 4 days agoI have been in the mood to cook lately. Today I made kale chips. They are good, but I think I will not use baby kale for them next time. I love not having to do a lot of stemming and trimming, but when the chips come out of the oven, they are so thin and delicate they easily crumble away. I put them on paper towels to cool, and I am now afraid…[Read more]

I love kale chips and my kids will even eat them. Might be interesting to crumble up your kale dust and put it on a salad. Might start a new thing.

Recipes 1 week, 4 days agoI am very happy I decided to invest in a Vitamix. My protein shake was SO much better today with the protein powder, ground flax seeds, and berries so well blended – no more grit! I even threw in a couple of handfuls of spinach and was amazed to see the smooth beverage that resulted. Thank you everyone who suggested this appliance to me. I…[Read more]

Hi Shelley, Congratulations on your new Vitamix! You did not waste any time:) I have not been having the protein shakes recently, but I love adding celery, kale, chard, avocado, cucumber and other veggies to the berry protein drinks. With the hot weather here you can pulse some greans, basil or mint and cucumber, then add that to some club soda…[Read more]

Sorry. I use the cookbook a lot, but I have not made this recipe. Shelley
Hi, This braising method of cooking requires a lot of liquid. You could get by with less if your pot is smaller. But a large dutch oven could use that much liquid. Just use 4 cups of broth if you want. To serve you would spoon the chicken and vegetables out of the broth. This broth would make a very good soup base though. Just save it and add any…[Read more]
