First visit to BSS site, community, and will start Preparation on Monday. Does it really cost almost $300/month for supplements while on the program? How do you afford that and the special food? I’ve not yet looked for food yet. I need to find where to shop. Does anyone use Fresh Foods stores? BSS Shelley

    • Welcome Shelley – Not everyone orders their supplements through this website. I buyer locally and did the research and decided what I wanted to add first based on the quizes and then added more with time. I would start with a good multiple vitamin. If you are adding supplements add them one at a time with a few days in between so you can see how…[Read more]

    • You will also find that as you phase out the processed foods that you used to buy you will have plenty of room in your budget for fresh vegetables. I make my own beans and soups and freeze them in one meal size servings rather than buying canned . Probably the most expensive thing I buyer is my protein powder for my morning Ultrashake . But it…[Read more]

      • Great advice; thank you for it. What Multi Vitamin do you use? Prices are SO variable that I have no idea what is quality. Also, I am confused about the Omega 3. The book says EPA/DHA ration of 300/200, but the one I found on the site store reads EPA-DHA 720. It makes no sense to me. Any clarity? This is all a bit overwhelming, but I am…[Read more]

        • I suggest that you google omega 3…you can get all sorts of great information with google searches. I take a fish oil soft gel that I buy locally at m grocery store when it is on sale 2 for 1 . But I also eat wild caught salmon a couple time a week and have flax seed in my ultrashake that i drink every morning.

    • Yes, be SURE to begin your new supplements one at a time and allow a few days in between starting new ones. I started many all at once and ended up feeling so sick. In the midst of detoxing from taking bad things out of my diet I added supplements and I felt like I was run over by a truck for a couple of days. It was really stupid of me to not…[Read more]

    • Hi Shelley, Some people do not use much in the way of supplements. I was already taking some so I just added a few. Dr Hyman does offer an essential wellness pack. It had so many pills it took me two months or more to use them. I did use PGX capsules and they really helped me with a reduction in appetite. I think they keep your blood sugar levels…[Read more]

Finished week 1 preparation! I can’t get over how great I feel. When I share with people that I am doing BSS and they hear no sugar they think I’m crazy. I don’t miss processed foods and cravings are gone! I brought snacks to a party this weekend and was glad I did that, everything was processed or full of sugar. How’s everyone else doing?!?

    • Today is day 2 stayed on plan yea. Went to the movies and brought a small bag of nuts once I made it past the popcorn smell I was good. Today started back at work and can tell a trigger is stress as about 10:00 I was really craving carbs. Had a hard boiled egg instead and it passed. Good for you bringing some snacks I think in the beginning you…[Read more]

Shannon s I am avoiding movies because I LOVE movie theatre popcorn. Good for you bringing nuts instead. Take a mini break when work gets stressful (and cravings get strong) and make some ginger tea. (Yogi brands are wonderful!) one day closer to a healthier you and me!!

        • I will try the ginger tea as I have heard that before. Made it to the end of the day. It was not as easy with work but made it. I feel much more relaxed now that it is evening. Tomorrow starts another day closer to goal.

Just starting Sunday, went to the store purchased lots of great veggies. I do have to travel some this week but just don’t think there is a perfect time as I travel often. I will bring some food and there is a whole foods where I am going. Will see how this goes. I see a few others starting today and tomorrow as well.

    • Hi Shannon – You will do just fine on your travels. There are salads pretty much everywhere these days and just stick with olive oil and vinegar as your salad dressing and you will do just fine. Most restaurants will also substitute seamed vegetables for potatoes rice or beans. Keep potion sizes in mind and bring nuts to snack on and water to…[Read more]

      • Thanks for the encouragement just finished roasting a ton of veggies to get ready for the week. The funny thing is my family just ate half of them for lunch and this was 5 baking dishes full. They will be on the program without knowing it.

        • Yes I have found that what ever I make for me preferentially gets eaten by everybody else . Just goes to prove that if there is something healthy available people will eat it..so I always make extra when ever anyone else is around. Do you have a steamer. I love to steam my vegetables..so easy !

Hello! I am going to begin on Sunday with the advanced plan. I have tried before on my own two times and have not stuck with it. I know I need to make a commitment to staying on the program for life. Any advise is greatly appreciated!

    • Welcome Carolync – Hopefully this time will be different for you. My advice is be involved here on line with us…it will add a layer of commitment and help you when you are feeling like things are not going quckly ehough . • Hi Carolyn, Make sure you are prepared with all your food choices. Shop and prepare meals ahead of time so that the easiest option for you is to eat at home.
Do not watch TV with commercials. Those food commercials are difficult to resist.
Always keep a snack around that you can eat celery, jicama, olives, pickles, blueberry muffins (recipe on…[Read more]

      • thank you Margaret! I survived day 1 and was at a family party for the day. I brought a healthy snack and ate it before going to the party. It helped because I didn’t munch before the meal, and didn’t have the cake.

    • I am just starting today as well and have tried before. I even went to the live taping of the PBS special with Dr. Hyman so you would have thought this would be easy. What will make this different is I am going to put in the prep work I need food that is available when I’m hungry at least in the beginning. Also I plan to journal more and e active…[Read more]

Hi! I’m starting the advanced plan on Monday. Any one reading this and wanting to start, let me know if you want to buddy up and support each other.

    • Welcome Katie – you will get plenty of support here in this community . I’ve been on the advanced plan for over 10 months now and will most likely be on it for the rest of my life..as I tried to reintroduce both dairy and gluten without success. That being said..I continue to lose weight ( but slowly now ) and feel great!

    • Hi Katie, Best wishes for your start on the BSS plan. Let us know how things are going. You will get plenty of support as you keep posting. I have been on the plan for over one year. I started on the advanced plan, but have reintroduced some food at this point. I do still go back to the advanced plan for a week or two.
      Blessings, Margaret

Ok friends, day 2 is almost done. I have not been a caffeine person for a number of years but I am noticing today my body is adjusting to not having sugary snacks and bread. I really appreciate the previous comments and conversations. I am amazed with all the information I have learned about how I eat and the way I can treat my ailments through my…[Read more]

    • Welcome to the club, Beth! After almost a year on the plan, I am still amazed at how well my body is responding to the good stuff.

      • Thanks Vimala. Congratulations on being on the BSS for almost one year. That’s wonderful. Any favorite snacks or tips to share?!?! I am working on reminding myself I am trained to reach for food when I am bored…it’s getting easier.

        • Thanks, Beth. My favorite snacks are the blueberry muffins, pumpkin muffins (see Recipe Group), veggies with hummus, and nuts.
As for tips, I guess the biggie is that I read and re-read the book to keep motivated. I keep finding nuggets of info that I didn’t notice the previous times. The other thing I do is I don’t track my weight closely. …[Read more]
