I just got my xray results back and I have Extensive calcific tendinitis. I googled this and found out it could be caused by diabetes. I have had diabetes for 15 years and I have read that this is when effects of diabetes can occur. Dam, why me? One thing the article said to do was to eliminate a calcium from my diet and that some nuts have…[Read more]

    • Google foods high in calcium…of course milk and cheese are the first things that come to mind. I suspect that this can be reversed over time with the proper diet. You will find as you follow this way of eating that you just keep getting healthier and healthier. Don’t get discouraged. Nicole

      • Thanks Nicole,
I am already feeling so much better on this food plan. The pain I have been in all week was what made me so discouraged. I’m feeling better today. Resting my shoulder and taking NSADs are really working. Wish your body didn’t wear out.

        • I had already been eating pretty healthy when I started BSS plan in July 2012. My roughest week was between week 2 and 3. What was new to my eating plan wss the elimination of dairy and gluten. between weeks 2-3 my blood sugars literally plummeted and every day I had to reduce my insulin dosage. My blood pressure also decreased and I got off of…[Read more]

    • Hi Dawna, It might be healthier for you to change the way you eat. Addressing the symptom rather than the underlying problem of diabetes might be disappointing.
If you do not want to use almond milk then you can use coconut milk. It is good to get info from the internet, but be cautious about thinking one article is the final word. Did your doctor…[Read more]

    • Margaret,
Thank you for your thoughts. You are right I will ask my doctor next week when I see him if I should restrict my calcium.

Happy thursday Everyone- eating out is always a challenge for people trying to lose weight. Especially when you go to a place like Outback steak house with their famous blooming onion and bread at the table. When I got home from my afternoon appointment yesterday my husband announced that he had to have some blooming onion. So off we went…I was…[Read more]

Just went to the doctor and my blood pressure is in the normal range. I’m so happy I don’t need high blood pressure medicine any more. Still having trouble with my fasting blood sugars being too high. Anybody have suggestions on how to lower them when they go up over night?

    • Hi Dawna – Have you read about the dawning effect…your body increases your blood sugar over night around 2:00 am in the morning ..this is part of your bodies “wake up” routine. You might want to check our blood sugar in the evening , around 1:00 am and then when you get up a few times. So many things effect it..if you suffer from obstructive…[Read more]

      • Thanks Nicole for all the information. I didn’t know some of this stuff. I have been loosing a pound a week and am now 172. Hoping the weight loss will lower my fasting blood sugar. My doctor is putting me on Glucophage XL to see if that will make a difference. I think it is time to do more walking like you suggest. Again, thanks for all…[Read more]

        • Sorry to hear you are getting put on Glucophage but this doesn’t necessarily need to be foreever. If you cut your carbs back and normalize your blood sugar ( get your fasting blood sugar down to in the 80′s – your doctor will take you off diabetes medications. You need to really pay attention and become well versed in what different foods and…[Read more]

    Tabbouleh with Quinoa

The more herbs you add the better. They are very healthy for you. Quinoa is a complete protein and fantastic for your health, especially if you are a vegetarian.

To make quinoa tabbouleh 6-8 servings:
Combine 2 cups cooked, cooled quinoa with
    1 cup cherry tomatoes, quartered;
4-inch piece cucumber peeled, seeded, diced…[Read more]

Tis the season for grilling! I will be attending a couple of cookouts later this month. I would love to hear of any ideas you may have for desserts or side dishes (other than greens/veg salad) to go with burgers and brats. I need a dessert or side dish to feed a group of 20, one that won’t spoil sitting out in the open for several hours. Thanks!

    • Hi Vimala, How about a quinoa tabbouleh. A bean salad will hold up as well. Or you could grill veggies, squash, yams, bell peppers, onions etc. These can be eaten with your hands. Just coat with olive oil and any seasoning you want.
A good dessert (not BSS) would be a strawberry-rhubarb crisp. You could try using ground almonds instead of some of…[Read more]

Hello everyone i’ve made the decision to commit to having this diabetes turned around and I know I need the accountability and support of a group and I am so glad this one exits, looking forward to keeping in touch with all of you.

    • Welcome, Debra. Do read the Blood Sugar Solution book (I read it a couple of times cover to cover as I started to incorporate the concepts into my life) and be sure to do the 2 week prep phase. It really sets the stage for success. Almost a year into the program, I’m still reading the book and finding nuggets of info I missed. This site is an…[Read more]

Happy Tuesday Everybody….we all have “bad” days every now and then emotionally where we get stressed out to the point where we just want to eat everything in sight. That is when it is good that there is few of none of your “trigger” foods in the house. Yesterday was emotionally hard for me and I did reach for my cashew container and ate…[Read more]

    • Nicole, I feel your pain. Yesterday my good friends brought me some Italian Tripe soup which doesn’t sound too good to most people but he is Italian and it usually taste so good. • We do all have bad days. I’m glad you’ve taken such a positive outlook on it. I like to say that since this is a ”plan for life”, we had better ”plan” on being prepared to go off-plan once in a while!

    • Thanks for sharing Nicole. You are right, the important part is that you over ate on plan. I really do admire how much will power you have to stay on your restricted plan for almost one year now!

    • Nicole, Wonderful how aware you are of what you did and what you have to do to get back on track. I admire you for sharing. Rusty

    • Nicole, Don’t be too hard on yourself. The key is don’t give up on yourself. You are worth taking care of. Sounds like you handled it the right way.

I have read ultramind solution and am reading ultra- metabolism. I usually just juice in the morning (apple, kale, lemon, ginger, beet). I was wondering if there is a reason i should not juice while doing ultra metabolism. Thanks!

    • I recently found some frozen smoothies at the local grocery store. I read the label and found NO SUGARS, NO PRESERVATIVES…. just pureed fruits and vegetables and juices of various fruits, wheat grass, barley, grains, some with tofu others without. They are high in calories about 240 cals per 8-10 ounces. I do not just drink the smoothie I…[Read more]
