Hi Janine – Good for you …progress in the right direction has to be celebrated with great enthusiasm. It is so easy to regain six pounds and takes so much effort to lose even one pound. ( 3,500 calories burned = only one pound lost ) . Nicole

Thanks. I wanted to say that when I buy avocados and other fruits I buy very small ones so that they are a single serving size. It makes overdoing it less likely.

Hi Janine, Yesterday I had a small avocado for breakfast, with some quinoa for protein. I ate them seperately and put some chili powder and lemon juice on the avocado.

Rosey – I tape and watch every show that I see Dr Hyman or Dr Fuhrman ( my other health guru ) on . There is so much to learn and every time I hear them or read a portion of their book I find I learn ( or remember ) something I find pertinent to where I am in my journey to better health. Yet another late night unable to sleep, another fat-inducing snack to try and fall asleep. I tried herbal tea, had a boiled egg, then another, then more.

I will take a hot bath in the middle of the night to go back to sleep. It seems to relax me.
Also if any niggling pain is keeping you from sleeping, get up and take two tylenol. Of course, there is always the read a book until you dose off technique.

Thanks for the tips, Margaret. I never thought about a late-night hot shower, but that would work. I know now that I simply can’t allow myself to eat anything and limit my late evening sleep-aid to an aspirin and a cup of hot herbal tea. No more snacks!

I find when I can’t sleep it is usually because I’ve got a lot going and too much on my mind. Making a list of what I need to do the next day or notes about what i am thinking about (journaling) is kind of a mind dump…and then i can sleep. Happy Wednesday Everyone – 139.0 this morning. I was surprised to see the scale show a lower number this morning as I was really hungry yesterday and dipped into the crunching peanut butter in the evening more than I should have and did not take my evening walk.

I believe I have reached that point, but not so much out of fear but more because I feel so much better. I see directly how easy it is (for me) to maintain a healthy blood sugar and how quickly the numbers change if I eat too much. Pretty simple argument and very effective for me.

Hi Janine, If you can keep it to coffee once or twice a week you will really have won the battle. It is all those other ’little’ only this time, slip ups that are so costly. I have coffee once or twice a month and it is not a problem. But I am vigilant about not letting it sneak up to once or twice a week.

My weekend coffee treats mean a lot to me and after doing without for so long last year after beginning the BSS, and learning that I COULD do without, I honor my sacrifice and newfound ability by not having coffee all the time because my body is so much better without it. I love my ”TREATS”.

I agree temptations are everywhere. You can afford the luxury of going off plan now and then. But i would have to probably go back on insulin at meal time if I did and that would make it even harder to keep weight off and lose the last 19,5 pounds I feel I need to lose. I REALLY empathize! I have to cook my husband a loaf of bread 1-2 times a week and the smell if so overwhelming sometimes. We do not have a good bakery or can’t buy bread without ingredients you can’t pronounce. I have to give him bread, pasta and whatever or he’ll lose weight and he can’t afford it.

make your own pizza!!! you can make pizza crust out of quinoa flour, or something similar…olive oil, coconut oil. just make substitutions. i do it all the time. you can get a good organic pasta sauce…and then add toppings galore! yum…there is no need to totally deprive!

I exhausted my supply of clothing that was hiding in the closet quite a while ago…I am now shopping at Salvation Army and places like that for shorts, slacks and tops until I get to 120 lbs. As I can’t bear to spend retail for clothing that I will probably have to give away in a few months because they are too big. Nicole
