Weight & Obesity 9 months, 1 week agoI’ve been on the advanced plan since April and am now 20 lbs lighter. At this point I feel as if further weight loss will be due to exercise, but keeping on the diet is helping me maintain the loss. I am curious if others are feeling, as I am starting too, that this is more of a new lifestyle, and not just a program to do for a particular period…[Read more]

hi Natasha-congratulations on getting so close to your goal. I am at day 2 of week 7 and still have miles to go to get to my goal with of 120lbs. (at 171.5 now) I too am interested in hearing from people that have transitioned from advanced to basic. I agree with you that once someone has discovered their food sensitivities and reached their…[Read more]

I too am exploring how this program can improve hormonal function, Currently on HRT but looking to get off. I have been on the advanced plan for 12 weeks and have lost 18 lbs, about halfway to my goal. I have found my energy improved, though it took a couple of weeks to adjust, so take it easy on yourself as you get started.

Weight & Obesity 10 months, 2 weeks agoI’ve been doing the program on my own for the past three months with good result, 18 lbs lost. Currently in an HMO with Dr who is not very interested in non-traditional medicine. I am wondering if anyone is working with a functional medicine doctor, and if so, how you found them. I am about to change insurance soon and will have to find a new…[Read more]

Weight & Obesity 10 months, 4 weeks agoI’m 8+ weeks in and have lost 15 lbs. I do think exercise has helped a lot, and I hate to admit ths because I have always hated exercise. As a lifetime clumsy person, always picked last for the team etc, I’ve always associated exercise with humiliation. That said, I am working hard to change my attitude about it and have been doing a program…[Read more]

Supplements 10 months, 4 weeks agoBased on the quiz I appear to need to address a hormone imbalance. I am 54 and recently off two years of HRT. I notice that the supplement recommended in the BSS store–Chasteberry Plus– is for menstrual support and wonder if that would be appropriate for postmenopausal support. Any thoughts most appreciated. BTW, I’m 8 weeks in and have lost 15 lbs!

In reply to: Lindsay Calhoun posted an update in the group Diet & Nutrition Was anyone really tired the first few days of your diet plan? ViewYes, I was so tired that I actually found myself falling asleep in the afternoon a few times in the first couple of weeks. Luckily I work for myself, lol! It gets better, remember to stay hydrated, I found that helps, and to get extra sleep. Your body is doing a lot of healing, and that takes energy, I think.

Diet & Nutrition 11 months, 2 weeks agoJust wanted to encourage others by reporting that I have lost 12 lbs as of the beginning of April when I started on the Advanced plan. I’ve been away and was catching up on the site. I tried to find your posting about the blueberry muffins but could not find it. Can you post a link again? I appreciate your posts, they are so helpful!-
Hi Natasha, I have been out of touch for a while myself. Here is the recipe
Blueberry Muffins (basic and advanced plan)
Makes 6 servings
preheat oven to 350
line six cupcake pan with aluminum or silicone cupcake cups for large muffins or use 12 standard cupcakes and spray with olive oil
1 cup almond meal (Trader Joe’s has this)

Supplements 11 months, 3 weeks agoI have finished the first 6 weeks of advanced and am in the second week of another advanced cycle. Have lost 10 lbs (1/3 of goal) and am generally feeling pretty well. There are tons of other things it could be than adrenal function. Why take more supplements if you don’t need them?
The first, obvious thing to look at is your food intake: Have you tried counting your calories to make sure you’re getting a healthy amount? Sounds silly, I know, but, after cutting grains and diet sodas, my wife had a struggle at…[Read more]

If you can’t find a solution, or if you start to feel worse, you might want to go see a doctor just to make sure everything’s okay.

Supplements 1 year agoIf the quizzes indicate that there are a few of areas to work on, such as digestion, hormones and toxicity, does one take all the supplements for each of these areas at the same time? Seems as if it would be hard to tell what was working, and also very expensive. Any guidance most appreciated.

lisathnos replied 1 year ago
I would think you would benefit from as many as you can afford. I bought mine online at a major, reputable vitamin supplier and paid MUCH less. That works for me.
-
nikwdhmos replied 1 year ago
Consumer Labs does a lot of studies on vitamins and supplements, and it’s cheap to join ($30 for a year subscription) — it’s an easy way to find out which supplements are honest and which aren’t. Most supplement makers are surprisingly honest. There’s a handful that either are bad actors, or just didn’t calculate things right, though.

I live in Mexico where jicama is everywhere and I’ve been having that with nut butters, cashew or almond usually. Peanut butter is not a nut butter, I’ve discovered. I’ve really liked kale chips–much more than I ever liked kale before! Also made an egg salad (the same recipe as deviled eggs in the book) and wrapped it in large green lettuce leaves. Both make a nice change for me.

I use unsweetened almond milk some berries and chia seed powder, which has no sugar. I let the powder and milk stand for a while and the powder thickens the milk. It’s very good without the added sugars. I get the chia powder at vitacost.com

Hormone Imbalances 1 year, 1 month agoHas anyone found that their adrenal hormones balanced out after going through this regimen?
-
Carol Ann replied 1 year ago
Can you tell me what that means. I was having problems with my blood pressure and heart rate. I felt like my body was tense all the time. I’m on medication now for bp, but am hoping that this program will take me off of them. Did you have your adrenal hormones checked?
-
Margaret Foster replied 1 year ago
I think the reduction in stress in your life will help. My adrenal hormones seem more level. I was diagnosed with a depressed adrenal situation 40 years ago, so I am in tuned to my situation. I personally think the grains and sugar out of my diet has helped a lot with that situation.
The adrenal glands can get tired and stop functioning properly…[Read more]

I’m not exactly sure what HRT is. I know the acronym stands for hormone replacement therapy. If it’s in a prescription you can pick up at Walgreen’s, my answer is no. I can’t bring myself to deal with the side effects of most prescription medicines, another reason I’m so happy to find Dr. Hyman’s work! He helps people get healthy enough to…[Read more]
