I have Hashimoto’s which is an autoimmune disease that involves the thyroid. It is a form of hypothyroidism and nodules form on the thyroid which, in essence, attacks the thyroid. Is this wellness system something to help with this disease? I take Synthroid to control it and have been doing so for 15 years.

    • Dr. William Davis, in his book Wheat Belly, states ”wheat consumption has been linked to rheumatoid arthritis, skin diseases like dermatitis herpetiformis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and a variety of other inflammatory diseases.” You can read more about it in his book which is well documented by medical research; and you can also refer to the hundreds of positive reviews regarding this book on amazon.com. Since the BSS plan has wheat listed as a food to avoid, I would say this plan should definitely help with the Hashimoto disease.

That matches what I have read since I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s at the end of February. I stopped eating gluten for 10 days and was feeling better. However I went back on gluten so that I could be tested for celiac. I felt much worse for several days after eating wheat again. I should receive the test results Monday when I will go gluten free again. My understanding from what I read is that the gluten protein looks very similar to what the thyroid antibodies attack so that eliminating gluten slows the thyroid destruction process and eating gluten may make it worse.
