I also just got The Blood Sugar Solution. Even though my blood test comes back as ”perfect” and nobody in my family has diabetis in my family, I still think at the back of my mind that I might have insulin resistance. Now I don’t eat prosessed food, no sugar, no gluten, no diary, no red meat, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, regulary fish, nuts , seeds and olive oil, etc. and still………. I know it sounds crazy, but everytime I eat something sweet: some figs, raw honey, fruit, I fall asleep/ it knocks me out. It sounds healthier than a sleeping pill but it makes me wonder what is going on.

    • And I really crave those sweets, which obviously goes together with adrenal exhaustion, which goes together with lots of ongoing stress. And that’s something that’s giving me a realy hard time, even though I use EFT to ease it. I used to crave all kind of things: diary, gluten, etc., but no sweets, and I smoked. I got rid of all that when I started to eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, but I still don’t feel good. According to the good doctor: chronic stress elevats cortisol, level of insulin and inflammatory compounds, which leads to metabolic dysfunction, which leads to weight gain, insulin resistance and ultimately diabetes. Not mentioning that it damages my brain and, according to the quiz I may have severe adrenal dysfunction.
In other words, I better continue reading fast and make preparations for the six week repair plan!

    • Hi Maggie! Do the plan for 6 weeks and see how amazing it is. My cravings disappeared after the first week and have not returned. Also my Dr. just took me off of my diabetes meds and my crippling arthritis disappeared. There are miracles to be found in this program! – Cathy Week 10, Day 3

    • Hi Maggie, I have had some of your problems (depressed adrenal glands and insulin resistance) And am totally over so many problems since following the BSS advanced plan. Like Cathy I have lost food cravings. It will take some effort the first week, but then they seem to disappear. I am in week 9 and will continue with the plan because it has changed my life for the better.
      Blessings, Margaret

      • Thanks for the encouraging words, ladies. I need them. The thing is I get confused: Some 20 years ago I learned not to have carbo and protein in one meal(Fit for Life), next we learned not to mix carbo with fat (Montignac), then I had an allergy test and I learned to avoid gluten and diary, then I went raw(mostly salads, seeds and fruit), then I went low fat raw, and still felt slugish, next I learned my thyroid is too slow, so now I’m taking the European version of Armour, then we had the Paleo diet and now I have to have carbo, fat and protein in one meal and cook vegetables, even greens???? What a waste of vitamins and minerals! So that’s the first mountain I have to climb!

        • Hi Maggie, Many of us not so young participants have been through the same healthy eating mill that you have. I think that all approaches may work for some people. Also some of those diet plans were based on incomplete science ( who knew that genes could be expressed or not – turned off or on) or small sample groups.
The BSS plan seems to be working for a large number of people and serves to correct many different health issues. I am not a doctor or scientist.
It seems to me that the real issues with diet today are different than in the past. Our food supply is very tainted in ways that did not exist to this extent earlier. Processing, chemicals and other additives, hormones and pesticides, sweeteners and excessive sugar and trans fats, genetically altered food, plus many other things in the environment have drastically altered our food supply.
Now, the Paleo diet and the BSS plan make sense. These plans appear to take the best from the earlier plans. And it is working.
Vegetables, raw and cooked, protein in healthy quantities, small amounts of fruits, healthy oils and nuts and seeds. Eating like this does get many people back on track, letting go of food addictions, old emotional patterns and a developing a healthy awareness of what our bodies and minds are doing.
As far as cooking destroying vitamins and minerals, there is new science for that as well. Drink the liquid from your cooked veggies and you recapture most of the nutrients that have been released. Also many cooked vegetables have phytonutrients available that are not bioavailable in the raw state. Tomatoes are an example. So raw and cooked serve their purpose.
Well, there is my lecture for the day!
Stay well and enjoy your vegetables, Margaret

          • Thanks Margaret,
I do think my intake of fruit has been too much. And dried fruit as well. When I go out coaching a group of kids I take along a big tuperware with seedless grapes, small cucumbers and cherrie tomatoes . I want them to asociate having a good time with fruit and veggies. For my kids I also make snacks like: dates+ cocos rape + cacao powder. And sometimes I eat them myself when I can’t find something else than junkfood in the sporthall and I have a hypo. Today I felt sick having carrot juice. It sounds crazy, but I really think I have an issue with sweet, even though it’s perfectly healthy sweet.

            • Hi,
I had a real problem with raw carrots. They really caused a blood sugar drop in week one of this plan. I had to remove raw carrots and all beans. Then I was fine. Carrot juice is like sugar water to lots of people. Be sure to eat protein at the same time if you are eating fruit. Even a bite will help.
Cooked carrots combined with other vegetables do not have the same effect as raw carrots. Remember to check the glycemic load of foods.
You are very busy so you may not have much time for research, but the internet has lots of info.
I am very happy to hear that you are taking the effort to train the youngsters how to eat and enjoy food properly for their future health.
              Good for you!
              Margaret

              • Feeling a bit down when I see the struggle ahead.
I don’t smoke, I don’t eat sugar, getting rid of alcohol completely is no problem, waning off caffee I can do. The last I did a 100 times before at least. It takes about a week. However it must be a very quiet week And I can go without for months. Only, my energy, which is low to start with, drops to the ground and never gets up anymore. During a holiday or in quiet times it’s OK, but when I HAVE TO GET SOMETHING DONE URGENTLY, no way!!! So I have a cup of coffee to get the job done and I’m hooked again.
Another thing is fruit. That’s my staple and learned that you have to eat fruit without anything else to make the digestion easy. That’s going to be a tough one.
Birds are equipped to eat grains. We humans have to modify them to be able to eat them. So grain is not meant for human consumption.
                Beans make me sluggish.
We don’t eat red meat, sometimes chicken and we do eat fish. I don’t like it, but that’s something else.

Some 10 years ago I did a diet avoiding my allergies and rotating (every item only one time in 5 days) It was a bit like the BSS diet. After 2 months I felt good, but after 6 months I felt worse and worse and finally I gave up when I was feeling just as bad as when I started or worse.

That means my best option is the way Gabriel Counsen does in Raw for 30 days + fish. In the movie he shows how, mostly overweight, diabetics improve their health hugely eating fresh food, but low or no fruit, in only 30 days.
However, I can live with the idea of adding fish.

                • Hi Maggie,
The real struggle is in our head. With this plan the best way is to concentrate on what you can eat. If it is half a cup of berries and one piece of fruit enjoy that. Avocado, Tomato and olives are technically fruit and you can eat all you want! If it is vegetables find ones you like and eat those. Find a protein you like and eat it many different ways. Eat your favorite nuts and seeds. Have fun discovering new herbs and spices. Use this site to vent your problems and share your joy.
If you want to try the raw food diet go for it.
When you are ready to be excited about the BSS plan it will call to you.
Everyone on this site understands what you are struggling with. We have all had to give up things we thought we could not do without. The rewards are so strong that they keep most of us going beyond the 6 weeks. Eventually this way of eating seems like the only choice.
If you are afraid of things going wrong, reprogram your thoughts so that you will now succeed, taking one hour or meal or day at a time.
On this plan people have struggled with energy lows and emotional roller coasters. That is natural when you are undoing decades of unhealthy habits. Your body will heal on this plan and healing takes lots of time and energy.
                  Many blessings to you, Margaret

                  • Hi Margaret,
The thing is I thought I was on the healthiest diet on the planet. According to me we were meant to thrive on fruit and vegetables. That was the package we were given to nourish ourselves. Not dead bodies!
Give a 3 year old a banana and a rabbit. I don’t think it will play with the banana and eat the rabbit. That’s unnatural. It will eat the banana and play with the rabbit. Why would we eat the rabbit?
When we look at the way we are build we are no meat eaters. No claws, different set of teeth, long intestens, low stomach acid, etc.
To me it’s logical and I have no problem disregarding all the info like why milk is so good, or corn sirup or whatever, but that I have to limit fruit comes as a blow.
So I have a hard time figuring out that I was so mistaken.
