Did you all have any problems taking out sugar and glutten during the first prep-week? I am only on day two of the the second prep week. I am doing great in the morning and even through lunch, but then the afternoon hits and I am completely exhausted, can hardly focus, and moody. It’s not so much that I am fighting cravings, but I just feel awful. Like I have the afternoon/early evening flu. Did this happen to anyone else?

    • I meant second prep week in my first sentence.

      • Yes, i did too. I found i was dehydrated. Try drinking water or green tea. I’m now in week 3 of the program and cravings are completly gone. I’m still working on my energy level, but friends and family say i have more energy than i use too.

        • Thanks good news. I am drinking lots of water, but I haven’t tried the tea yet. Thanks for the suggestion! Is there such thing as sugar or refined carbohydrate withdrawals?

    • It is sometimes called the ”Atkins flu” — when you get run down/headachey. I did Atkins for a while, and when you go low carb (whether it’s mostly meat like Atkins or mostly high-fiber veggies like BSS), you can get very dehydrated at first because your body doesn’t know what’s going on.

More water, or if that doesn’t work, something salty plus water usually kills the headache inside of 10 minutes.

This phase lasts 1-2 weeks in Atkins, and then your body readjusts and the headaches are gone. I don’t know how long it lasts in BSS.

      • Oh that’s good to know! I had no idea – I’ll just stick it out and hope that it goes away soon. I’ll keep drinking all the water I can! Thank you!

Are you having several small ”meals” during the day instead of eating the usual three? I eat every 3 hours or so and that really helps me from feeling hungry or tired. If you haven’t tried that, it might help. I eat a celery stick with 2 T almond butter for my morning snack around 10 a.m. then have some nuts or hummus with celery or, today, a turkey meatball. Snacks really make the difference for me. Hope this helps.

      • Also a great suggestion! That’s probably it. I have a snack in the morning (mostly just because I always have – I’ve always eaten breakfast, and I get hungry right in between breakfast and lunch), but I didn’t think about having one in the afternoon. I’ll have to try that. Thanks so much!
