Well I didn’t get as much of the week one prep stuff done last week as I had hoped so it is going to take me another week to get caught up. Sometimes I feel like I have no control of my life. But such is my life so I will just continue on as best works for me.
I ran into another block today. Breakfast and lunch are not going to be a problem…[Read more]

    • Great post Rae!
Your hubby, along with most of us, is programmed to eat the wrong stuff. I’m waiting for the wisecracks from the guys here at work because the stuff I have won’t include bacon and Doritos.
I’m sure that as you lead the charge into a happier, successful lifestyle, he’ll come onboard with you. Maybe not completely because of the…[Read more]

      • IHi John-it doesn’t matter if your spouse totally embraces your new lifestyle or not. My husband eats what I fix and almost always adds other things ate each meal. I am determined enough to stick to my one serving of my food. (no seconds) and to just ignore the other food on the table that are not currently on mt eating plan. Think about young…[Read more]

    • II think a change in perspective may help. I also end up cooking different dishes for each of us. the protein is usually the same. -chicken or ish but most times my husband doesn’t want my low glycemic vegetable dish. I figue that just leaves another Serving for me at another time no problem. I fix him some beans or some other carb dish that I…[Read more]

Well I found what I think was a pretty good buy on coconut oil at Costco tonight, It is a fairly large jar, extra virgin, cold pressed with nothing added for $17. It smells and tastes so good. Ü

Good morning! I am just starting out and have a question about oils. While I am fine with olive oil, I have found that I like gradeseed oil a little better for cooking. Is grapeseed oil a good option or should I stay with the olive oil?

    • I have not tried grapeseed oil. What I switched to is a good quality cold pressed virgin coconut oil. You can use it at a higher temperature than olive oil and it smells o good. Google coconut oil and read about all of it’s healing benefits.

    • Grape seed oil is ok. I love coconut oil, but sometimes you get a coconut flavor. That can be a good thing, or not!
Thanks for the Costco tip. I bought mine at a specialty store and paid a premium.
      Margaret

    • Grapeseed and Coconut oil are better than Olive Oil for cooking at high temperatures, as olive oil can turn toxic at high temperatures. But from my reading, those are the best 3 oils.

    • I use the light olive oil for cooking and it does great. You can also use sesame oil. And i love using the extra virgin coconut oil in place of butter on my sweet potato and in Quinoa “Cream of Wheat”. It does have a little cocnut flavor and tastes sweet to me, so it wouldn’t work in everyhing. The coconut oil is also in some of the smoothie…[Read more]

Definately on the advanced plan since I am diabetic. The transitions shouldn’t be too difficult since there aren’t many things I need to eliminate.
I plan to be here a lot so Im sure you will all know how I am doing.

Today is off to a great start. Saw my FNP this morning and she is happy with the changes in most of my labs with the exception of my A1C which was up a bit, but I expected that with all of the stress in my life the past few months. Not up terribly high but higher than it was in March.

Yep stress gets me too (I am a stress eater ) Lately I have just been drinking a lot of water and relaxing a bit. Doesn’t help that it was 106º here today :o \
”Mommy syndrome” has a lot to do with why I am where I am now. Everybody else comes first and I didn’t take care of myself. Im finding that it is a hard habit to break.

I haven’t had to hug the toilet and close the curtains and be in the dark after getting too hot for a long time now.
