Diabesity / Diabetes 1 year ago My husband and I are reading the book and preparing ourselves for the program. We are hoping in eliminate our diabetes. I am controlled with diet and exercise and he is on metphorman. We also want to rid ourselves of the other medication for thyroid, blood pressure, and a few others. Caffeine is going to be our biggest challenge, well I am certain there will be other challenges but we are hopeful for a positive outcome.

It sounds impossible to do without coffee, but, believe me, you can really do it. I used to grind my beans every day and was a total coffee ”snob”. I confess that I was. You will be just fine. Get some green or white tea and have a cup of hot tea in the mornings. It isn’t coffee, but it really does help. (I spent 3 weeks preparing to stop having coffee!) You are both going to do just great.
I had to cut out caffeine years ago because of an inner-ear ailment. Coffee is so delicious that I miss it. I’m very groggy in the mornings, and all my life I thought the coffee was necessary. Interestingly, I’ve found that I wake up and become functional a lot faster without it! I drink chamomile tea instead. It seems the hot liquid is what actually gets me going. And I guess I save time, because how long can you linger over a cup of herbal tea? ha. Just drink it down fast while it’s hot and you’re good to go. Good luck. (I would still kill for coffee in the morning)\
It took me weeks to wean myself off coffee and I did it step-by-step. First to just one cup, then to half and half decaf, etc. Now, in the mornings I have a spicy decaf tea and sometimes put almond milk in it–which is actually very good. After freeing myself from the caffeine, I was tired for another couple of weeks, but now that has passed. Now I notice that I am calmer. Also–and this is the really big thing–my blood pressure has dropped!! In my doctor’s office two days ago, it was 104/60. This is good.
