The physical need for sugar is finally subsiding, but I still need to turn off my brain so it stops thinking about the wrong things! This will take a few more weeks.

    • It doesn’t get any easier no matter how many times you go through sugar withdrawal. Good luck on your journey away from sugar. When I eat something I know I shouldn’t and have to pay the price…I always ask myself -why do I keep doing this to myself. Lately what I seem to not be able to get enough of is peanut butter and nuts . Hard to keep to…[Read more]

    • I have been thinking of this topic a lot lately, and as I read on-line reviews (on Amazon) of the BSS book yesterday, someone recommended a book by Dr. Andrew Siegel, Promiscuous Eating. I have almost finished the book and find it interesting. It cost $8 or so on Kindle.

My sense of self and a positive feeling of self worth has been derived primarily from successfully losing weight for over three decades. Life would be better. happier, successful, more fulfilling if only I could lose weight. Nearly every thought, plan and movement was overshadowed by anguish over my morbid obesity and my desire to rid myself of…[Read more]

    • I find your story so sad and probably rings true to a lot of people . My ex husband became abusive when I started gaining weight and was no longer the trophy wife that he liked showing off at 110 lbs. We ended up eventually getting a divorce but the whole process of giving up on a marriage that was abusive took most of my self esteem with it as I…[Read more]

      • Thanks for sharing, Nicole. I am always sorry to hear of yet another woman who endured abuse but UPLIFTED by your victory in surviving! I try not to dwell on the past but when it comes to losing weight it must be dealt with. Margaret posted something important this past week when she queried what happens when the goal is reached and the…[Read more]

    • I need to clarify something. For 34 years as I tried to lose weight I felt good about myself ONLY when I was losing weight. Since I grew steadily heavier and heavier as the decades passed, it doesn’t take a much to see that I felt pretty rotten for most of the time. Losing on the BSS became a new kind of drug for this sugar addict. How to…[Read more]

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone here has had to deal candida? I have an appointment with a functional doctor as soon as I can fill out his questionair. The reason I ask is I scored pretty high in the quizzes for an underlying fungal issue and I wanted to know from anyone who had the issue uhm, well did you notice a difference with things…[Read more]

Have a wonderful weekend, Shelley

Happy Wednesday Everyone – My life has gotten in the way of my 2x a day walks the past few weeks making it easy for me to either make them shorter or skip the 2nd walk entirely . The bathroom scale is still reflecting the change in my daily routine and my over indulgence in eating nuts and nut butters by showing me a “temporary ” increase in…[Read more]

    • Hi Nicole. I enjoyed your post from Wednesday. On Tuesday I struggled – and lost the battle – to keep my daily amount of nuts in check. Not only that, but I stayed up too late the night before reading my BSS book, and instead of going for my walk at 5:00 a.m., I went back to sleep. So the next day my BG was up to 127! I got back on the…[Read more]

Week three is under my belt, and my BG remains within normal range without taking any metformin – 85 this morning. It is miraculous!

    • So happy for you, Shelley! I can’t seem to bring my bg down to the 80s lately. Will keep plugging away.

Hi Everyone – I just wanted to remind everyone to reread sections of the Blood Sugar Solution and other health books on a regular basis. Nicole,
Thank you for all your comments. They are helping all of us I’m sure. Just took oatmeal off my diet and my fasting blood sugar is back where it should be. Finally.

Wow..being under 170 is a milestone to shout about from the rooftop! Congratulations. getting those fasting blood sugars consistently under 100 and optimally in the 80′s takes healing and eating smart and daily walking or other forms of exercise . • Dawna, I have to get back to a better walking schedule. The weather is warm, here in VA, so early morning walks or evening walks would work best. Your doing so well …keep it up. Rusty

Oatmeal/oats is one of the things that causes inflammation for me and increased blood sugars above what should be for the amount eaten. Oh well.

    • Funny you would mention this now, Nicole. I had just decided to reread the book this week.

Newbie to group, just started reading Dr. Hyman’s BSS book. Diagnosed with T2 diabetes 11 years ago, was put on mealtime insulin 1 year ago and taking long lasting insulin as well. I hate the pokes and weight gain, I need to get my diabetes under control via diet/nutrition and exercise. I’m excited to read the book and participate in the community.

    • Welcome Michelle _ Like you I am on insulin and have been for about 4+ years. When I started the Blood Sugar Solution I was taking meal time insulin and 2x a day Novolin, blood pressure medications ( 2 kinds) and Cholesterol medication. Within 2 weeks of starting BSS , I quit taking my meal time insulin and greatly reduced my 2x a day insulin ,…[Read more]

    • Hi Nicole. Awesome results. I hope to be there, too! I also take meds for HBP and recently stopped taking cholesterol med because I was experiencing lots of muscle aches/pains. Keep up the good work!

      Welcome Michelle,
BSS gets easier after the first 7 weeks. Just hang in there. I feel so much better eating this way. Been a T2 diabetic for 15 years. Walking and diet are really the answer to be the healthiest you can be. Just quite Lipitor because of leg pains. Also went off of high blood pressure meds. Now my blood pressure is normal. …[Read more]

I thought it was interesting to read in USA today about two new weight loss drugs on the market that cost $150-$200 per month (if paying out of pocket) that only give you 10%-20% help . • Hi Margaret, still recovering. No exercise except for PT right now. I am getting in the pool next week to learn hip exercises with the PT. I think then I can take it all to the Y with me and restart an exercise program. Hard to stay on BSS program when your on crutches and laying around all day. My husband is very helpful but he’s not a cook.

        • Oh Boy, you are right about the BSS plan being a challenge on crutches! In time things will open up so that you can follow the plan. For now just try to eat as much veggies as you can:)
I went through the last year with almost no exercise, so the plan is doable as far as the lack of movement.
