Overview

When’s the last time you remembered a new phone number? This used to be the norm, but now most of us rely on our digital devices for everything from phone numbers to directions and even basic math. This might feel harmless but it’s actually doing our brains a disservice. We’re living in an age of digital dementia, because we don’t have to rely on our brains for the memorization and navigation we used to. But it doesn’t have to be that way—we can retrain ourselves to learn faster, retain information better, and really maximize our time spent learning. The secret is meta-learning, or the science of learning how to learn. There’s no better person to dive into this topic than Jim Kwik, my guest today on The Doctor’s Farmacy. Jim points out, “The faster you learn, the faster you earn,” but that’s not just when it comes to work and finances. We are able to more readily and effectively access all the gifts life has to offer when we maximize our ability to learn. Jim has extensively studied and taught the tools that help us make this happen. He’s even perfected the secret to speed reading and finishing a book a day! One mistake many of us make is setting a huge general goal without nailing down the steps it will take to get there. Jim explains how reverse engineering out goals and breaking them down into small steps makes failure obsolete. Another roadblock is limiting beliefs, or LIEs—limited ideas entertained. By recognizing the current belief systems we have in place and changing those that are holding us back we give ourselves the power to achieve whatever we want. Jim is truly a wealth of knowledge and inspiration when it comes to changing the way we learn and reaching our goals. I hope you’ll tune in to this week’s episode to think about how you learn in a whole new way.
