How To Train Your Brain To Get Unstuck And Cultivate Self-Love

Episode 696 1h 12m

Overview

I bet most of us can relate to having negative thoughts on repeat, whether we’ve actually stopped to think about it or not. Our minds have been conditioned and can get stuck on auto-pilot, making us feel helpless, unhappy, and lost.

Today I’m excited to share a conversation with Mel Robbins, all about breaking free from negative thought patterns and incorporating tools to create self-love. We dive into so many powerful topics throughout this episode. One that I find most people struggle with is self-love. Mel says the secret to self-love is taking care of yourself the same way you’d take care of someone you love. It’s a habit that is created through the repetition of small acts. Mel shares the two most powerful things we can do every day to come back to self-love and self-acceptance. When it comes to mindset, most of us believe that changing our mind begins with changing our thoughts, but our thinking patterns don’t actually begin with a thought; rather, they are triggered by an emotion.

Have you ever noticed that if you go outside for a walk when you're super frustrated or feeling low energy, you feel different within just 10 minutes? This is because you have shifted your physiological state, and when you shift or relax your physiological state, you relax your mind. We discuss the Reticular Activating System (RAS) in our brains and why we have repetitive thought patterns (whether they be positive or negative). We talk about how we can use our understanding of the RAS to actually change our behavior to make our lives better.

We also talk about the 5-second rule, which Mel created in a moment of desperation. You can use the rule and its countdown method to break any bad habit, interrupt self-doubt and negative self-talk, and push yourself to take the actions that will change your life. I’m so grateful to talk to Mel and share her wisdom with you. I hope you gain as much from this conversation as I did.
