Is There A Way Out Of Our Political Mess That Makes America Healthier?

Episode 800 1h 18m

Overview

We live in a country that claims to be based on science, goodwill, and policies intended to help people. But these things are often heavily influenced and manipulated by industry, particularly Big Food, Big Pharma, and Big Ag, which have corrupted many institutions, politicians, professional associations, and research entities.

Today on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I’m excited to talk to Marianne Willamson, candidate for President in 2024 and a good friend of mine, about her vision for how we can change our food system, economy, environment, and public health outcomes for the better. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Marianne’s career as a spiritual thought leader, political activist, and author has focused on facilitating personal and systems transformation on things that really matter, and at the core of Marianne’s campaign is the promise of systemic change.

Marianne and I discuss what that looks like and the most important changes we need to make in America today. We currently have a food system that is geared towards profiting a few at the expense of many. It’s also a system that simply can’t endure over time. Hunger relief and the obesity crisis both get attention in America, but what doesn’t get attention is how to increase the accessibility of good food to people who can’t access it.

Marianne and I talk about her food safety and security plan and what we can do to transform our food system. Access to healthcare and health equity are also pressing issues. Marianne and I discuss her Whole Health Plan and how we can address healthcare disparities and ensure all individuals have access to quality healthcare services.

One of the world’s greatest explorers, Robert Swan, said, “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” Climate change is a global challenge that requires collective action. Marianne and I discuss the key steps individuals, communities, and governments should take to mitigate the effects of climate change and the specific policies she believes are the most crucial in addressing water quality and renewable energy.

While I’m not endorsing any particular candidate for President, I do encourage you to take a deep look at Marianne’s campaign, as it uncovers the root of our division in America and brings to light issues that we are not hearing anywhere else. I hope you’ll tune in.

Introduction: Coming up on this episode of the Doctor's Pharmacy,

Marianne Willamson: We have been taught to limit our political imaginations. We've been taught to expect too little and we need to snap out of it. We have been mentally trained into a codependent relationship with people who represent systems that do not wish us well.

Lauren: Hi, this is Lauren, one of the producers of the Doctor's Farmacy jumping in. Before we begin today's episode with a quick note for reference that the interview you're about to hear was recorded in September of this year prior to more recent world events.
