Help! I am on day 4 of the detox, I am following it to a T. I have gained 2 pounds. :( I feel better, but I am gaining weight. I am 45, 5’4 and have put 20 pounds over the last 2 years. Both my parents are diabetic ( mom has adult, father type 1.) I have tried everything to get the weight off and nothing has worked. Any advice? I registered in your Wellness Community and now am having trouble with logging in. Is there a support number. Thank you in advance for your help. Elizabeth

like every other ‘diet’, it’s not for everyone. Whether or not you lose weight with this diet will depend a lot on what your ‘metabolic type’ is (endocrine weakness or imbalance) – thyroid, adrenal, pituitary or gonadal. the best part about this one is that it does work for everyone by improving health in some way with the elimination of alcohol, coffee, dairy, gluten.

      Hi Rachel,

You should be able to avoid eggs throughout the detox and substitute for other protein sources such as chicken, fish and nuts.

I am currently taking 54 units of Lantus every night, and Humalog after every meal, averaging 12-24 units (my “love affair with bread will get me dead” (so says my nutritionist). Is this 10-dy Detox going to be safe for me? If so, will it help me (with increased exercise) make substantial progress towards my goal of “no more diabetes meds”? I am SO sick and tired of stabbing myself with needles!

    Thank you.

For those looking for something closer to home, there’s The Marquis
which resembles a classic British pub, featuring plasma screens showing music videos and sporting
events, plus a pool table. When you get in touch with them, they
will want to understand what size panel (wattage) you have and what the voltage is.
A refrigerator is one of the most complex and important items to
    consider while you are moving.

I am on day 10 of the 10 day detox diet. I followed the diet and did not deviate at all. I have PMR (Polymyalgia Rheumatica) and type 2 diabetes. I am 5’1 and 140 pounds. I have been on weight watchers for one year and lost 18 pounds. I was hoping that this detox would kick start my metabolism as indicated in the information for the diet. As far as medications I take a shot of enbrel once a week for the PMR and 1,000 mg of Glucophage with dinner. Although I feel much better, off coffee, dairy and gluten and I am thankful for the health aspect of it. I just can’t seem to loose weight. I was hoping to loose another 5 pounds on weight watchers or with the detox diet but the scale won’t budge. Do you have any suggestions.

          Hi Tamara,
The 10-Day Detox program includes a small amount of berries or kiwi in the ingredients for the Breakfast Detox Shakes. There is no other fruit recommended during the 10 days. Once you finish the detox program and are ready to transition to the Basic Plan (please see chapter 18 in the book), you will be able to add more fruit to your diet.

My wife is a vegetarian so I am l looking for other proteins for her, what else fits in to the detox besides tofu that will give her what she needs? She ill eat some kinds of fish, I have searched through the book and it says nothing about canned tuna being good or bad. I looked at the ingredients on the can of tuna and they are (in order) tuna, water, vegetable broth, and salt.

      Hi David,
Dr. Hyman recommends organic, non-GMO tofu, temphey, and edamame in addition to fish and eggs. With fish, look for small, wild, low-mercury, sustainably raised cold-water fish such as anchovies, clams, cod, crab, flounder/sole, herring, mussels, salmon (canned or fresh), sardines, small halibut, sable, shrimp, or scallops. Recommended brands include Crown Prince Natural, Vital Choice Seafood, Ecofish, Inc., and SeaBear.

Fish is not on a vegetarian diet and if vegan eggs are not either. For those soy sensitive, tofu and tempeh are of no benefit.

I’m on day one of the detox and am having some difficulties. I took all of the suggested supplements with my shake this morning. Within 15 minutes I was extremely nauseous and had to vomit. I don’t generally take any supplements so I wonder if this could be from taking so many new things at once. Have you heard of anyone else having issues with this? Would taking some with breakfast and some with lunch to split them up still be effective? Thanks!

      Hello Shayna,
I’m sorry that you had such a rough start on the detox diet! Your nausea was likely due to taking too many supplements at one time. Split up your supplements between your three meals for better results. Did you know you can work with Dr. Hyman’s nutritionists virtually? Hi:

I have been a fan of Dr. Hyman for many years and would like to thank him for influencing me to give up dairy. After giving up dairy I lost 20 pounds and all of my sinus and throat allergies vanished. Thanks!

My wife and I are preparing to do the 10 Day Sugar Detox Diet and I noticed pistachios are not one of the foods listed. We really like pistachios and would like to include them in the diet. Is there a reason why they aren’t listed?

Thanks again for all the great advice on health, Jim

Hello. I am on day 9 of the 10 day detox. I have followed the recommended food choices to the T., though have not used the recipes for lunch or dinner–just the basic salad bar for lunch and grilled protein and sauteed vegies for dinner. Otherwise I’ve done everything. I’ve only lost 1.5 pounds and 1 inch in the 9 days. Previously I followed the “Fat Flush” diet and lost ~6 pounds in the first week. Do you have any recommendations if I’ve been following the guidelines but haven’t lost weight? I am getting exercise each day, drinking 8 cups of water, getting 8-10 hours of sleep, etc.
    Thanks much.

The 10-Day Detox Diet program is about getting health, and for many people improved health on the inside allows them to lose excess body fat. Be consistent with the program recommendations and you will continue to see results. Healing your body may take more than 10 days!

Just finished the 10 Day detox diet. I lost 13 lbs and my blood sugar dropped from 105 to 79. I never had any major cravings. The first few days with no caffeine were a little tough. By the 4th day, I was up everyday and moving with no issue. I am going to continue on the diet until I meet my weight goal. Thanks!!

While salmon is especially rich in healthy omega-3 fats, feel free to choose an alternative fish. Look for small, wild, low-mercury, sustainably raised cold-water fish such as anchovies, clams, cod, crab, flounder/sole, herring, halibut, mussels, salmon (canned or fresh), sardines, small halibut, sable, shrimp, or scallops.

  27. Amy February 1, 2015 at 12:11 pm #

Hi- I am currently on day 5 of the 10 days, everything seems to be going well especially with regard to the food cravings. I have no issues with removing cheese or sugar from my diet. Which were my favorite food groups. My reason for writing is that I have had terrible headaches for all 5 of the days. I had a few hours in day 3 when they went away, but that is all. The pain gets worse as I go through the day. Any thoughts? This is definitely not a side effect I thought that I was going to have. I have been following the program exactly.

    Many thanks, Amy

I am actually doing the 3 day fat melting soup diet. My question is I drink one diet soda a day and cannot get off of it due to the caffeine. Are there any suggestions besides going cold turkey to eliminate this habit. Additionally the diet suggests just to drink water an unsweetened herbal and decaf green tea.

    • Shelby February 24, 2015 at 7:42 pm #

      Hi,
I did this a few years ago and am reading the posts because I’m gearing up to do another cleanse. When I did it last, I had a soda habit too – along with massive coffee and ice cream intake! Ha! Anyway, did you know that Green Tea is actually higher in caffeine than coffee? Right!?! Here’s what I did to solve the soda thing:

I made ICED green tea every morning. I learned that I preferred it this way. This was how I did it. I boiled my water for one small cup and poured it over two tea bags when I first got up. After getting ready for work, I would then pour this cooled down tea over ice in a large travel cup – viola! This is the best tea to use by far: I tried many types and flavors of green tea and found Yogi brand Pomegranate Green Tea to be my favorite. It has a nice berry flavor which cuts the bitterness of the green tea. It is in most grocery stores in the Health Food tea section, or you can buy it online.

Secondly, when I really craved the fizz from soda I would get myself a seltzer water and smash a couple of berries into it. Raspberries and blueberries are my favorite. It just adds a bit of flavor and sweetness along with the fizz.

Hope this helps you. I’d highly recommend doing this cleanse/detox. It was life changing for my family (including my 12 yr old twins who loved it) and I lost 20lbs in 4 weeks.

I’m looking forward to staring the next round next week and meeting 1:1 with a dietician to get some questions answered. I ordered the book but won’t get it until next week, so I ordered it on Kindle since I couldn’t wait to get into it. I’m wondering why he has us exercising in the morning before we eat anything. I am starving when I wake up and can’t imagine going for a 30 minute workout on a 12 hour fast.

Dr. Hyman Nutrition Staff March 18, 2015 at 2:03 pm #

      Hi Linda,
If your workout is intense or for longer than 30 minutes, you may want to consider having a small snack such as 10-12 raw nuts prior to your workout. It is fine to exercise on an empty stomach and may be preferable for many, but you can customize this to fit your needs. You may find that eating a protein-rich dinner and balancing your blood sugar will change how you feel upon rising.
Wishing you great results on the detox!

I’m planning on starting the 10 day Detox but am wondering if it would be beneficial to do the 3 day fat flush first or jump right into the detox ? Also just curious just unsweetened green tea and water to drink on the Detox ?

Dr. Hyman Nutrition Staff March 21, 2015 at 4:44 pm #

      Hi Jenn,
We recommend starting with the 10-Day Detox to nourish your body with the nutrients it needs for effective detoxification. There is no caffeine on the 10-Day Detox Diet, not even decaf, so green tea is not included. Water and herbal teas (unsweetened) are a good choice during the detox.

      Hello McKell,
If you are unable to find unsweetened cranberries, then you can substitute any other type of berries or simply leave the cranberries out of the recipe.
