How to Boost Brain Health and Reduce Neuroinflammation

For a long time, brain fatigue and a lack of cognitive endurance were just considered a normal part of aging. These issues are actually symptoms of a much larger problem, though—neuroinflammation—and they aren’t inevitable.

Our brains naturally create cellular debris as we age. A healthy brain with the right anti-inflammatory and antioxidant systems in place can clean up this debris using a process called autophagy. But when those systems become compromised through a variety of insults, like insulin resistance, toxicity, and lack of sleep, the debris piles up, and neurodegeneration and inflammation result. Taking the right steps now can prevent and even reverse an inflamed brain.

In today’s mini-episode, Dhru speaks with Dr. Datis Kharrazian and Shawn Stevenson about the top things that are damaging our brain health, the earliest signs of neuroinflammation, and how to protect and optimize our brain function.

Dr. Datis Kharrazian is a Harvard Medical School-trained and award-winning clinical research scientist, academic professor, and world-renowned Functional Medicine health care provider. He develops evidence-based models to treat autoimmune, neurological, and unidentified chronic diseases with non-pharmaceutical applications. His clinical models of evidence-based medicine are used by several academic institutions and thousands of health care providers throughout the world.

Shawn Stevenson is the author of the international bestselling book Sleep Smarter and creator of The Model Health Show, one of the top health podcasts in the world. Shawn has been featured in Forbes, Fast Company, The New York Times, Muscle & Fitness, ESPN, and many other major media outlets. He is also an in-demand keynote speaker for numerous organizations, universities, and conferences.
