New Year, New Food System

Happy New Year!

I hope you’re gearing up to make it the healthiest one yet.

This year has been amazing for me! I made meaningful memories with my wife and loved ones and traveled to some really cool places. I launched my most favorite cookbook to date. I helped numerous patients change their lives for the better.

On top of all that, I was lucky enough to sit down with some of the greatest minds in Functional Medicine, nutrition, mental health, spiritual wellbeing, social justice, and regenerative agriculture (among many other fascinating topics) on my podcast, The Doctor’s Farmacy.

All of these conversations made one thing super clear: Health is multi-faceted, and it’s more than a personal endeavor. The health of our relationships, communities, and planet is deeply intertwined with the level of personal health we can achieve.

That means connecting with people who have values that align with our own and creating a community that lifts us up is essential to our wellbeing. So is keeping our soil, air, and water clean. And of course, eating food that was produced consciously without chemicals, hormones, and other toxins.

My guest on last week’s podcast episode has effectively brought all these components together in a way that is changing the future of food. Kimbal Musk is a chef, restaurateur, and philanthropist. His personal mission is to pursue an America where everyone has access to real food. He is the co-founder and Executive Chairman of three businesses—The Kitchen Restaurant Group, Big Green, and Square Roots—with real food missions that are rapidly growing across the US.

Kimbal’s restaurants are warm gathering places that provide delicious, locally sourced, regeneratively-raised meals. His nonprofit organization, Big Green, builds permanent, outdoor Learning Garden classrooms in hundreds of underserved schools across America reaching over 350,000 students every day. Square Roots, Kimbal’s tech-enabled food company, builds urban farms in climate-controlled shipping containers and empowers the next generation of farmers to be successful while producing hyper-local, healthy food. This collection of projects truly is an inspiration in supporting health through regenerative agriculture, community, education, and innovation.

Head over to the podcast and listen to our motivating conversation right here. It’s solutions like these that will help us make long-term changes to our broken food system. Let’s make 2020 the most impactful year yet!
